Sac City Cheer & Dance Team Constitution Introduction This informative document is written for Sac City Cheer and Dance Team (parents, guardians, relatives, other interested parties and prospective members) in order to have a complete understanding of the policies of the Sac City Cheer & Dance program. Members of the Sac City Cheer & Dance Team shall first be, law-abiding citizens of the nation, state, and city, and secondly, shall be exemplary representatives of Sac City College. Objectives/ Purpose Sac City Cheer and Dance Team is a curricular activity that supports the student's academic career. As a member of Sac City Cheer & Dance Team, it shall allow and permit the member to continue to be a responsible, mature, and independent adult. The team member will maximize their own opportunity for student growth, change, and leadership. As a participant, you are a member of a team, which will:  Support the intercollegiate athletics of Sac City and lead in positive, vocal support for the teams  Perform cheer motions, dance movements for entertainment and/or competitive purposes  Be Sac City ambassadors (non-profit) and project the goals and mission statement of the college Hierarchy The College's Cheer and Dance Team is coed. The teams cheer/dances for all home football and basketball home games. They may travel to a selected away game. Each year the Dance Team(s) competes for a Regional/State/National Championship, and all members of the team are eligible to compete, depending on academic standing, athletic ability, and proven performance. Team Composition Minimum qualifications: *18 years old by the fall semester *Cheer candidates must have performance experience at the intermediate level

Know arm motions Know jumps Know cheer etiquette *Dance candidates must have performance experience at the intermediate level Perform battemants Perform turns Solid jazz, pom technique Jumps and dance etiquette Tryouts Try-outs are held in for registered students in Dance 373 spring or summer. The advisor/coach will add alternate members and/or dismiss members who are unable to fulfill the requirements. The advisor/coach reports to the athletic dean. There is an additional reporting relationship to the Sports Information Director, the Associated Student Government (ASG), and Inter-Club Council (ICC). The official season begins in the summer, continues through the fall and spring semesters. The team will consist of no more than the natural break of scores at audition time. The team will also have at most two mascots, they will be chosen by individual tryout or on a voluntary basis. Tryout Eligibility        

Mandatory attendance at one of the clinics prior to try-outs or pre-arranged session Have signed a contract, assumption of risk on file and an application Maintain a 2.0 GPA, proof of application, acceptance and be in good standing Upon acceptance, must pass the constitution test Physical clearance on file and sports physical from your physician submitted by fall term Must meet the financial obligations with no holds on file Advisor/Coach can make an exception to rules above With special permission from the advisor/coach, a candidate may try-out after he/she has left the team on a previous occasion

Probation Benching will not be made by any other team member. Only the advisor/coach can bench members of the team. The member must abide by all rules and regulations during probation, which is determined by the advisor. If you are benched, you must still wear your uniform and view the game from the bleachers. No socializing with friends from the bleachers. If the member fails to comply, they will be given a warning. In addition, being benched for more than 20% of the season will be subject for dismissal from the team.

Removal or Quitting    

Alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco usage, felony charges, tardiness, excessive absence, grades, and all others which the advisor deems right for dismissal If a team member removes oneself from the team for any reason (with the expectations of prolong illness or injury with a doctor’s note), that member will not be eligible to tryout for the following year unless they receive special permission from the advisor If a team member was removed from the team during the current year they are not eligible to tryout for the following year unless they receive special permission from the advisor Advisor has the right to put a hold on the member’s grades and records until all of the obligations are completed

Attendance/Participation         

Mandatory attendance at all home games and selected away games Football Games: You will be given the schedule in the summer (July), so no one should miss any game Basketball Games: Basketball season occurs during the months of January and February. You are required to complete the season. You are given a schedule in September. It is mandatory that you register for the (spring) Dance 373 Course by December 10 You will be given an Incomplete for the fall semester. A grade change will occur after the basketball season has completed You must know all the cheers/dances/sidelines/half-times Must be at 80% of the practices Must arrive 1 hour prior to the event unless otherwise stated by the advisor Attend collegiate camp (spring semester) Serve on the audition committee f

Policy on attendance If a member is to miss a class, practice, or game, they must notify the advisor as soon as it is known. NOT your captain. (Documented proof may be requested) You are allowed three class absences per semester. UNEXCUSED Jobs Another sport absence Social plans Appointments Lack of transportation Tardiness/Absences Recommend that you arrive to class 10 minutes early. We start on time. Late to Games/Appearances/Fund-raisers/Performances/Events: Will run a ½ mile @ next practice

If you exceed three tardies it will count as one absence and must be made up by additional conditioning, which will be assigned by the advisor/coach and captain. Disciplinary action or probation initiated. Miss three classes, grade drops down one grade level. Miss one game, benched the next. Make-ups may be available at the discretion of the coach/advisor. 3 Late absences = 1 unexcused absences 3 Unexcused absences = Dismissal Punishment table: Tardy = Marked as late & Run ½ mile extra at practice Unexcused absence = Marked as unexcused, Run 1 ½ miles extra at practice Mandatory enrollment The SCC Cheer& Dance Program is a three-semester program: Summer, Fall, Spring: Summer *Dance 373-Cheer & Dance (1 unit) 7:00-8:30 AM, MTWTh Fall *Dance 373-Cheer & Dance (2 units) Fall, 7:00-8:50 AM TBA Spring *Dance 373-Cheer & Dance (1) 8:00-8:50 AM TBA

Mandatory Cheer/Dance Camp  

A mandatory SCC Cheer and Dance Team camp will be held on campus for the team(s). Materials to be learned will be planned and consist of cheers, half-times, or sidelines Additional training can be obtained in local gyms or dance studios

Events/Functions (Attendance at the following activities):  Orientation  Noon time Quad Rallies (Thursday during college hour)  Homecoming week activities  Home Football Games (fall)  Home Basketball Games or ARC/CRC in Sacramento (spring)  Any scheduled Fundraisers Other events Other events include public relation type and/or charitable events. No business or commercial appearances as Cheerleaders/Dancers. Cheerleader/Dancers, who appear at business or commercial events as individuals, are required to notify the advisor in case of a conflict of interest. Team members will be nominated to hold positions on the team such as team captains, activities chairperson, fundraising chairperson, public relations chairperson and club officers. All

appearances shall be approved in advance by the advisor/coach at places and events. Team members shall appear only at activities, which are positive and representative of the college. The members shall not make appearances at political events. Priorities in order: Sac City Athletic Events Sac City Events Canned Food Drive Coats for Kids Toys for Tots Shriners East/West KCRA 3 Fitness Fair Fight for Breast Cancer Competition The decision will be made by the team after camp. Participation in outside competition will be determined by majority vote. Members must maintain a 2.0 GPA, and be in good standing. Dance Teams are able to compete at the 2-year college level. (pending sponsoring organizationUSA, NCA/NDA, Jamz, ect.) The Cheer Team has limited facilities and will not be able to practice elements required at the 2-year college level. The cheer team members may compete with the hip-hop team. Personal Conduct and Performance Standards              

There may be additional members of the team recruited or dismissed after tryouts by the advisor A member will serve as the head captain and play the lead role Complete a Sports Physical Examination by a physician by August 2008 You must hold yourself in the most professional manner in and out of class and especially when in uniform Foul language and insubordinate behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated Unbecoming behavior which reflects on the reputation of the school or team will be subject to automatic dismissal Members will follow the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA), SCC, and LRCCD rules Other rules concerning Cheer and Dance Team may be promulgated verbally or in written form by the advisor/coach Violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action Cheer and Dance Team is highly competitive and time-consuming activity Discuss your commitments before you try-out with all concerned The Sac City Cheer/Dance is expected to work as a team and expected to learn all the required routines, cheers, and sidelines Members shall maintain all problems/conflict within the team and report significant problems to the advisor as soon as possible The Sac City Cheer/Dance will follow the Sac City Athletic Code of Behavior

   

Any physical fighting is an automatic dismissal from the team Game cheers or dances: If you are not placed in a certain formation or dance sequence, or have been replaced temporarily for any reason with another member, this decision is not to be taken personally All team members always participate in fullest capacity with efficiency and effectiveness Drinking of ANY alcoholic beverage the day before or the day of a game or practice will not be tolerated. A violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the team. Use of ANY illegal drugs at any time (including steroids) will not be tolerated. Violations of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the team, as well as notification of the proper authorities. (Remember - you could put everyone’s life in danger by violating this rule). Smoking or chewing tobacco while in uniform or in anything signifying membership with will not be tolerated. A violation of this rule may result in dismissal from the team. Smoking, in general, will not be looked upon favorably due to the effect it has on health and performance of a member. (Remember, you are a role model for many young children and must display a positive image to the general public.) Absolutely NO drinking at any college-sponsored function (home or away) Absolutely NO anti-establishment attitude or disrespectful language Absolutely NO unprofessional behavior in the educational setting, such as negative response to superiors and/or staff Confidentiality pertaining to the program to individuals not involved with the program, or open and public disagreement among members or between member and advisor Absolutely NO lying will be tolerated towards teammates and/or coaches of the team Respond willingly to any request made by any athletic director, senior athletic staff member, advisor, or member of the staff of any school Wear only SCC clothing at pre-game activities, while traveling, and anytime while representing the campus Absolutely NO unprofessional behavior at any and all functions/settings

Appearance "Representing Sacramento City College Cheer & Dance Program" refers to any time the member is in uniform or when wearing any clothing identifying him/her as an SCC team member or when verbally recognized as such.  Class: Wear workout clothes and shoes. If you are not in proper attire, you will receive an absence  You are an Ambassador of Spirit, you must act and look professional at all times. You represent not only yourself, but also Sac City as a whole  Games/Events: Full uniform. A member will not participate if they are not wearing the entire uniform and accessories planned for that game/event  Professional Cheer/Dance appearance from hair to shoes  Women’s hair should always be pulled away from the face  No chain or dangling earrings or jewelry (studs ok)  Remove all bracelets, and watches  No food eaten in view of crowd, only water  All males must be cleanly shaven

        







No answering phones or pagers during class or any athletic events No eating, smoking, drinking or use of drugs during class or any athletic events No socializing with family or friends during game time (Only during half-time or designated break time) No children allowed in your care during class or any athletic events Each member must be in position to greet the athletic teams as they enter the stadium or courts Team should promote school spirit by decorating and cleaning up after an event The Sac City Cheer and Dance program is committed to promoting health and fitness Members must maintain an above average rating in fitness and be excellent athletes If member is injured during the course of the season, and then must sit out because of the injury, member will be required to have a doctor/physical therapist notify advisor stating the nature of the injury and length of inactivity. Member will be required to continue with treatment sessions as well as home-therapy, per medical orders. Prior to rejoining practice/performance, member must obtain approval from doctor/physical therapist with any limitations clearly given. Advisor reserves the right to determine member’s alternate during the time of absence. It is also understood that if a member is instructed to see doctor/physical therapist, member will follow instructions promptly. Unacceptable for males include: earrings while in uniform or at practice, facial hair of any type (beards, mustaches, goatees, etc.), long hair, eccentric hairstyles (unusually dyed hair, mohawks, etc.) visible body piercing, visible tattoos, wearing of jewelry while in uniform etc. Unacceptable for females include: eccentric hairstyles, visible tattoos, loud makeup, visible body piercing, wearing of jewelry while in uniform etc. In the event the member already has a visible tattoo at the time of tryouts for the next year’s team, and is selected to the following year’s team, he/she will be required to make sure it is adequately and inconspicuously covered, to the satisfaction of advisor, while in uniform In the event the member already has a visible body piercing at the time of tryouts, and is selected to the following years team, he/she will be required to remove all body jewelry while in practice or in uniform at a game or appearance. This includes tongue piercings. Pertaining particularly to naval rings, both male and female Cheer and Dance members will be required to remove all body jewelry while in practice or in uniform at a game or appearance. Noncompliance may result in suspension from program activities or dismissal from the team

Financial Responsibilities  

Each member must meet financial obligations of the team, including payments and fundraising. If financial obligations are not met, the member will be ineligible to tryout for the following year. Approximate total cost of uniform/competition travel etc. $500.00-$1,000.

All quotes are approximate costs pending selection:

Dance Uniforms: $500.00 (Shell, skirt, dance shoes, tennis shoes, bag, poms, warm-ups, shorts, dance pants) Cheer Uniforms: $600.00 (Shell, skirt, brief, shoes, bag, poms, warm-ups) Men Uniforms: $400.00 (Shorts, shirt, warm-ups, shoes, bag, megaphone) Practice t-shirts/sweatshirts and attire will be purchased for additional cost. ($25-$50.00)  Each member will make the necessary deposits and payments at the time requested. 50% due on the day of fitting or May 2008 Uniforms        

The official colors are cardinal (red) and gold The uniform will be planned and final prior to tryouts Uniforms will be neat, clean and in good repair Members must be wearing identical uniform pieces Hair will be styled so that it is away from and short enough so that no hair moves into the face Women may be required to wear bows or headbands Members may not substitute other garments for official uniform parts without prior consent of the advisor Captains/advisor will decide on the uniform for that particular event and all members must arrive with the decided style. If you fail to arrive to an event in full uniform (including hair, shoes, and make-up) you will be benched for the amount of time decided by the advisor

Uniform will consist of: Shell warm-ups Skirt/pants ribbons Briefs shoes

bags team approved black gloves poms/ megaphones

sweatshirt camp clothing

Fundraising 



All members are required to attended the planned fundraisers America Best Fundraiser Selling of goods at school events/ Craft Fair Scheduled team car washes All other fundraisers must be approved by the advisor and all funds must be distributed to the appropriate account in the business office. However, the money will be used for the perspective working team (cheer or dance) for that fundraiser

Selection of Captains Eligibility and Selection Requirement  

One captain and co-captain will be chosen, who are also the president and vice president Candidates for captain must have completed one year of Sac City Cheer or Dance. Cocaptain may either be a new or returning member

 

Each captain must demonstrate the ability to be a cooperative leader with students and adults alike Captains will be selected based on the following criteria o Essay, interview process and member vote. Advisor/Coach will be present and active during the interview process. o Captains will include input from all members o If captain becomes ineligible or resigns, the advisor, based on team input, will appoint a new captain o Advisor has final say in the selection of captains o Both Cheer Captains and Dance Captains will coordinate all cheers and half-time performances so that all participate fully. Each half-time should be no longer than 2:30 minutes

Duties              



All captains have the authority to enforce the rules and regulations as defined by the constitution with the permission from the advisor Participate in ICC meetings and build relationship with the Associated Student Government Maintain team website, account and mailbox Help organize tryouts They are obligated to report misconduct of a team member Prepare a contact list of the team with accurate phone list, addresses, e-mail and birthday’s Distribute list of all games schedules Distribute calendars of event for each month Notify members of last minute changes in an appropriate manner Make sure the team is ready and prepared Communicate with the co-captain and advisor Will work out transportation Take roll when necessary Will delegate duties as necessary i.e. Signs/decoration Sound/music Sidelines/Half-times Player appreciation Fundraising Maintain a binder Copy of constitution Phone list Cheers Activities Cost Maps Attendance report

Our goal for this team is to accumulate enough money to award in the future a small scholarship to graduating team members in good standing Each member will receive a certificate and an SCC Medal (pending funds available)

In addition, at the end of the year awards will be presented: Spirit-Scholar Award- 1 yr and 2 yr Two people with the highest GPA Spirit Award Person who demonstrated the most spirit Best all around/MVP Person who demonstrated the highest standards in sportsmanship, academic, leadership, dependability, spirit and skills Advisor/coach Duties In addition to those duties outlined in this document, the advisor shall:  Attend all scheduled games and performances  Oversee all tryout activities  Be made aware of any potential problems, physical, or mental, and/or eating disorders that may exist. If potential problems exist, Advisor will work with member in any way possible to ensure safety Modifying the Constitution The constitution shall be reviewed for revision in the spring semester of the school year. Captains and advisor will meet and review/revise as necessary. Changes to this document will be in effect for tryouts and team selections for the next year.
