ACTIVITY GUIDE

A Letter from

Eric Lucas, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture When you realize that summer is right around the corner, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For me it’s the crack of the bat, the hum of lawn mowers, songbirds, kids playing at the pool, family vacations, summer concerts, hiking, fishing and so much more! If you’re looking for things to do, look no further! Your staff of dedicated professionals has been working very hard to ensure that everyone who utilizes Windsor parks, programs and facilities will make memories that last a lifetime! We have replaced 3 picnic shelters at Main and Chimney Parks, added a bandshell at Boardwalk Park (opens in June), planned classes, trips and so many special events that I ran out of fingers and toes trying to count them! In addition there are numerous opportunities and activities at Chimney Park Pool and Windsor Lake. Needless to say, there is something for everyone here in Windsor! Feel free to email your thoughts, comments, ideas, or suggestions. Enjoy Your Summer! Eric Lucas, M.S., CPRP Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture [email protected]

THE vAluE OF PARkS AND RECREATION

Conservation–Public parks are critical to preserving natural resources and wildlife habitats, which offer significant social and economic benefits. Local park and recreation agencies are leaders in protecting open space, connecting children to nature, and providing programs that engage communities in conservation.

Health and Wellness–Park and recreation departments lead the nation in improving the health and wellness of communities. From fitness programs, to well-maintained, accessible, walking paths and trails, to nutrition programs for underserved youth and adults, our work is at the forefront of providing solutions to these challenges.

Social Equity–We believe universal access to public parks and recreation is fundamental to all, not just a privilege for a few. Every day, our members work hard to ensure all people have access to quality parks and programs, and in turn, make our communities more livable and desirable.

Pardon our Mess!

We Are Making Changes to Serve You Better! With 5 short months to go we have passed the midway point on construction of the CRC expansion! Our offices are now open on the 2nd floor, locker rooms are being demolished and the outer shell is nearly complete! Beginning in April the interior of the building will begin seeing major construction (gym, front desk, 1st floor offices, etc.). With that we will be going to a modified schedule with limited access. All of this is the price of progress! You should expect to see some news soon on the 2016/17 membership rates and some of the wonderful new activities and amenities that we are planning. In the interim, please continue to check our web page, social media for updates!

Stay tuned! www.windsorgov.com/CRCExpand

Rendering of completed Community Recreation Center

Improvements to Boardwalk Park too! In addition to the CRC Expansion project, we are building a bandshell/pavilion at Boardwalk Park that will serve as the permanent stage for our summer concert series as well as other outdoor events! Construction is expected to be complete in May 2016!
