Children & Families

A Big Thank You! Members of the Family Information Service ready to take your calls.

A big thank you goes out to all the clubs, groups and organisations that have very kindly supported us by paying for advertising in this year’s activity guide. This guide is important because: Parents really appreciate the information.

Your Family Information Service Ealing’s Family Information Service handles over 2,000 enquiries each month – so we are very experienced at understanding the needs of parents, carers, children and young people. Call us to find out about: • Ofsted registered childcare (nurseries, playgroups, childminders etc) • Paying for childcare • Children’s centres • Education

• Family support services • Leisure activities • Services for children with additional needs and disabilities • Services for young people

020 8825 5588

The guide is distributed to each primary school child in the borough and made available to young people at different venues to encourage interest in different activities, out of school and during holidays. It supports local businesses as activity providers rely on the publicity they receive through this guide each year. Professionals from health, social care and family work refer to the guide and use it as part of the package of information and support they offer families.

Being active and having an interest in a variety of things is good for your child’s health and wellbeing. Active children become active adults!

Ealing Play Service

Holiday Childcare for School Aged Children The Play Service provides childcare schemes during school holidays. These keep children engaged all day at various venues across the borough and can help working parents and others by caring for children when schools are closed. This summer, these will be run in the Northolt, Southall, Ealing, Hanwell and Acton areas. Children aged 5 to 12 years can be left from 8.30am and collected by 5.45pm.

The schemes are all registered with Ofsted; programmes of activities include games, sports, arts and crafts, music, trips out etc. Bookings are allocated on a first come first served basis, the costs are: For a full five days: £75 per week for the first child; £70 for second child from the same family otherwise the cost is £17 per day, with a minimum booking of two days in any one week.

Centre Services: A range of services supporting children and their families are available at Play Service centres. These range from stay and play, specialised classes, health and parenting support, some centres also offer private nursery provision and Play Service after school childcare. Enable Ealing Families

Short Breaks Short breaks provide opportunities for disabled children and young people to spend time away from their primary carers. These include day, evening, overnight or weekend activities and take place in your child’s own home, the home of an approved carer or a residential or community setting. Ealing provides a range of short breaks within mainstream and specialist children’s services. Children with additional needs can access targeted short break provision following an assessment of their family’s social, emotional and health needs and referral to the ESCAN Resource Panel. Talk to your social worker or contact the Family Information Service on 020 8825 5588 or [email protected] for more information.

Short Breaks for School Holidays During the school holidays Ealing funds a number of short break activity providers to ensure children, young people and families have the opportunity to participate in fun, exciting and challenging activities. Find out more at www.ealinghelp.org.uk and from September 2015 visit www.ealing.gov.uk/SEND

Special School Short Breaks Ealing’s special schools receive funding to run their own holiday programmes. Families should contact the schools directly. A list of special schools is available at www.ealing.gov.uk and from September 2015 visit www.ealing.gov.uk/SEND

My MAX Card comes to Ealing! Ealing Council is supporting a discount card scheme whereby families with children and young people aged 0-19 who have a disability or special educational need can benefit from discounted rates at many attractions around the UK. To get a MAX Card Ealing is asking families to register on the Disabled Children’s Register for Ealing Council. This is a register of all children and young people in the borough with a disability or additional need. The register helps the Council understand the needs of residents better so that we can provide appropriate services and support. The register is also the way the government determines how much funding to offer each Local Authority for the provision of specialist services. So the more people registered on it the more money we are able to spend on the services that matter most to you and your family. We have enough MAX Cards to ensure that families who register before 21 September 2015 get one. We may be able to obtain more based on the success of the scheme, but this is not guaranteed – so avoid disappointment and register today at www.surveymonkey.com/r/disreg. Visit the website to find out which attractions and experiences are included in the scheme www.mymaxcard.co.uk. Enquiries to [email protected].

Meet Toby the freejumper What is freejumping?

It’s what happens when you let a nine-year-old like Toby loose on 150 connected trampolines at Oxygen Freejumping, opening this July 2015. There’s something for everyone. Even if that something is mum or dad relaxing upstairs with a coffee and a new Kindle book downloading, thanks to our fast Wi-Fi. We continue to deliver courses in: Languages, Computing, Music and Dance and many more!

The Foundation Degree in Teaching & Learning*

New to Alec Reed Academy

If you have ever considered developing a career working with children or young people, this could be the course for you! Live Locally, Learn Locally, Earn Locally! Have you thought about studying for a degree but been put off by the cost? This is a great opportunity to study whilst living at home.

Do I need qualifications? Not if you’re over 21 as acceptance is by interview. Under 21s need one A level or equivalent.

Think again! We can help you access full time student finance, grants and discounts that could make study affordable for you! Did you know that mature students may pay back very little of any loans that they take?

What’s the catch? This is a workplace based degree therefore you must be working or volunteering with children or young people for at least 10 hours a week from September 2015.
