Te Deum: God Is Praised May 3, 2015 11:00 a.m.

Welcome to Preston Meadow Lutheran Church— We’re glad God has brought us together to worship and hear the Good News of Jesus in word and song. The early Christian hymn, Te Deum – “we praise you, O God” – provides the theme for our worship and song today. Join your voices with the voice of all creation in praising the One who is reconciling all of creation through Jesus Christ. If you’re visiting with us today, we’re especially glad you are here. Grab some coffee afterward, and let us have the chance to get to know you. Welcome! Hearing assistance devices and large print bulletins are available for your use. Please notify an usher if you would like either of these.

Hymn numbers (ELW #717) refer to song numbers in the central section of the hymnal.

Apostolic Greeting P

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

Prayer of the Day P

C

Let us pray. O God of majesty, whom saints and angels delight to worship: Pour out your Spirit on your servants who, with the gifts of music, enliven our praises and proclaim your word with power. Through our song, give us a new awareness of your beauty and grace, and join our voices with all the choirs of heaven, both now and forever; through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

We praise thee, O God; we acknowledge thee to be the Lord. All the earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting. To thee all Angels, the Heavens, and all the Powers, the Cherubim and Seraphim proclaim without ceasing: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts! The heavens and the earth are full of the majesty of thy glory. The glorious chorus of the Apostles, the admirable company of the Prophets, the white-robed army of Martyrs praises thee. Throughout the whole world the holy Church gives praise to thee, the Father of infinite majesty; they praise your admirable, true, and only Son; and also the Holy Spirit, our Advocate. You are the King of glory, O Christ. You are the eternal Son of the Father. To deliver us, you became human, and did not disdain the Virgin’s womb. Having blunted the sting of death, you opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You sit at the right hand of God, in the glory of the Father. You are believed to be the Judge who will come.

God Is Praised in Justice “Praise His Holy Name”

Keith Hampton

Shalom Choir

Text:

Sing till the power of the Lord come down. Shout Hallelujah! Praise his holy name. Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see. Jesus, Jesus, how I love thee. Shout Hallelujah! Praise his holy name. Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the world go free? No, there’s a cross for everyone and there’s a cross for me. Jesus, Jesus, how I love thee. Shout Hallelujah! Praise his holy name. Holy Jesus, praise his name. Oh, hallelujah, praise his holy name. Hallelujah! Let us praise his name. Hallelujah, Lord! Praise his holy name. Praise his name. Praise his holy name. Praise his name. Oh, oh, praise his holy name. Praise him!

God Is Praised in Yearning “Come and Dwell in Solomon’s Walls”

Z. Randall Stroope

Sanctuary Choir

Text:

When the final timber lay against the measured stones, with the doorposts in their place overlaid with gold. And then the Lord appeared to Solomon, blessing all the house, also the temple of the ark of God, pure and whole. Come dwell in Solomon’s walls, come and dwell in the house of the Lord where the humble bow down, seeking wisdom and strength, for the Lord dwells within and heals their land. Come dwell in Solomon’s walls, come and dwell in the house of the Lord, where wisdom and righteousness, justice and holiness, join at the feet of God. When the people of this house kneel and humbly pray, when they turn from dark to light and your will obey, O Lord of heaven and Lord of earth, show favor on this house, and heal, restore, forgive, and bless, Lord, we pray. Come dwell in Solomon’s walls, come and dwell in the house of the Lord, where wisdom and righteousness, justice and holiness, join at the feet of God.
