Dear Colleagues, The 19th European Congress of Psychiatry will take place at the International Congress Centre of Vienna, Austria from 12-15 March 2011. It will be our pleasure to welcome you to Vienna. As we have tried to make a tradition, the cities we visit for the European Congress of Psychiatry have a special relationship or history connected with psychiatry. Vienna is no exception with names such as Julius Wagner-Jauregg, Sigmund Freud, Viktor Frankl and Alfred Adler. EPA plans to offer you a high-quality, multidisciplinary scientific programme that will provide a full review of the most important aspects of diagnosis and treatment in psychiatry and of the latest achievements in this field. Under the motto “Translating research into care,” as a tribute to the EPA inner mission in Europe, congress highlights will include presentations by outstanding European and international experts in Psychiatry. The scientific programme will be composed of plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, a dedicated Early Career Psychiatrists’ programme, EPA Academia CME courses and Satellite Symposia organised by leading pharmaceutical companies. Clinicians and researchers are encouraged to become actively involved in the exchange of knowledge and experience by contributing to the scientific programme of our Congress. Attend workshops, lectures and CME courses, propose oral presentations, exhibit posters and enjoy interacting with your colleagues from Europe and around the world!

PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME AND CALL FOR FREE COMMUNICATION AND POSTER ABSTRACTS

Green Society The European Psychiatric Association is dedicated to taking personal and active responsibility for our effect on the environment. EPA is committed to integrating new practices in its head office, congresses and promotional activities that will reflect our ethos for change and eco-conscience. We believe, that as a continental society, EPA has a voice and a responsibility not only to act but also to spread the message to our members and colleagues.

Green Meeting EPA and appointed congress organizer Kenes International are devoted to considering environmentally friendly practice at the European Congress of Psychiatry and in all of our operations. Our responsibility to our congress participants, staff, environment and society is paramount in all of our decisions, policies and practices. At present, here are a few of the practices we have undertaken for EPA 2011. • Our print materials will be printed on recycled or PEFC approved paper • Reduced plastic registration envelopes • Name tags at congresses can be deposited when participants leave the meeting and they will be re-used. • At the congress, we will recycle plastic, glass, cans and paper. • Environmentally-conscious offices (amongst other things, we recycle our waste, including organic waste for compost, integrated energy saving fixtures throughout the building and use only recycled paper).

Green Participants Offset your carbon footprint - you can contribute to our ecological efforts by offsetting the carbon footprint of your travels to EPA 2011. A carbon offset represents a reduction in carbon emissions elsewhere - like a wind farm in Texas or a reforestation project in Nicaragua - to balance out the carbon emissions you cannot reduce. You can learn more and offset your carbon footprint at: www.carbonfund.org
