Kindergarten Tidbit - Mrs. Whitlock Thank you to Angie Wall for the Mexican snack. We have pictures of each of us in our sombreros. Friday we celebrated Myla’s birthday day and had a real “fiesta”. We head to Peru, South America this week. This Friday we will have a food tasting of Peruvian food. If you can help let me know. Foods to taste include mango, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, rice and beans. We can do mini crock pots for the warm foods. Also does anyone have coffee beans to show? This week we will continue addition up to the Four Family in Numbers. We will review the dime and count by tens. The $ sign will be introduced. The students will practice all their numbers with flashcard recognition. There will be an evaluation in Numbers. In Phonics letters, blends, sounds and words will be reviewed with a mix of flashcards for all four. We will identify beginning letters, blends and make words from the blends. We will review spelling words and write a sentence. We will not be in reading groups this week and will review all phonics and spelling. We will make sentences and read our blend books. The Fiery Furnace is our Bible story. We will meet Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. Their courage, faith, protection and witness can be a great lesson for all of us. We need courage to make the decisions to do the right thing and faith when we face difficult decisions or task in our classroom. God wants us to love HIM more than anything else. Our memory verse is: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, Do not be terrified or discouraged; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 If the weather permits, we go outside. Please send snow clothes and boots.

First grade – Mrs. Wolbrecht Bible – This week we are learning about young King Josiah and his desire to serve the Lord as his father, David did. The students are reminded this week that no matter our age, we can make a difference for our God! Our verse this week: “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Psalm 119:18. We are enjoying learning a little more each day about Jesus’ birth and life through our adornments. Each day, in addition to our regular bible study, we are spending time in the word learning all the names of our Savior. Spelling List #14 will be our last list of 2016. We will test on Wednesday, December 21. sight might right light bright delight white quite write invite polite give

Math – We continue to learning about units of measurement such as Cup, Pint, Quart and Gallon. We are also doing well learning how to read our thermometers and our clocks. Please work with your child on the math facts cards I’ve sent home with them. We are working very hard on memorizing facts more and using our fingers to count less! Health – We have been studying all about manners. Manners at home, manners at school, manners at church… manners everywhere! Speech - Students will pick out their selection for the upcoming ACSI speech contest by December 15. Our in-house contest will be in February. More details to come! We have written letters to many sponsor children. If you have a child you sponsor and wish to have the first graders send them a Christmas letter, please send in your child’s name, agency and mailing address. Thank you to Beth Schultz and Pam Friel for organizing our Christmas party! The students can hardly wait to see what you have planned! In His Hands, Mrs. Wolbrecht

2nd Grade - Mrs. Bickett Students will be getting their speech contest poem, Bible passage, or fable to start learning over Christmas break. Our classroom speech contest will be sometime the week of Feb. 1st. Students will all participate in our classroom contest. Up to two people from each category will be chosen to go the ACSI speech contest in Peoria in March. Our verse this week and next is Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We will recite this verse next Wednesday, December 21st. We will be working on spelling list 14 the rest of this week. Students will not be tested over these spelling words except for fun. In math class we are continuing to learn how to borrow in subtraction. We have learned a poem to help us do this: “More on the top, no need to stop. More on the floor, go next door and get ten more.” So far students are doing very well. We are learning about verbs in English class. We will also be working on writing a friendly letter. Reminder: We will not be doing a gift exchange at the Christmas party on Thursday, December 22nd. Instead we would like to collect the money you would have spent on a gift ($3) to help someone who is less fortunate. Our Christmas party will start at 12:15 on Thursday, December 22nd.

It’s ALL about the BABE in the manger! But don't leave Him there!

3rd grade - Mrs. Cleary As Christmas break rapidly approaches, we are tying up loose ends to get ready for the new year - Fresh Start! Health class is well underway and we hope to have a nutritionist visit us for some healthy recipes and cooking fun. Watch our for practice papers and catch up work also. Some students need to do both. List 16 Spelling test on Friday. (Last one until we meet after break.) Next year we will start History and I am really excited along with the students. God bless everyone and may He keep you safe over the festivities during break. Our praises to God the Father for His love to us giving His Son, Jesus, the Jewel of Heaven, to be our Savior!

4th Grade - Mrs. Odell We are reviewing the year’s verses this week. We will be going on our “in-town” field trip Thursday. We will test on spelling list 16 Wednesday and then begin list 17. We are learning dry measurements and fractional equivalents in math. We will begin to write a book review on “Saved at Sea” . We are finishing a chapter on “War for Independence” in history and we are finishing “matter” in science. We are choosing speeches next week so the children can have theirs to begin memorizing during Christmas break. They might need help/counsel from you in making their decision. Our class Christmas party will begin at 12:30 on Thursday under the direction of Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Jessica Odell so you may direct any inquiries toward her, and school dismisses at 2:00. I pray that your family will have an incredible time together focusing on Christ and the beauty of His magnificent plan for us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
