Successful Telethon Collection in SJdS
[email protected] Over 30,000 Córdobas was collected in the municipality for the Telethon activity on April 12th confirmed Dra. Lea Jenny López, Coordinator of the activity. She said that the people of San Juan del Sur have always supported this voluntary collaborative effort for children with different disabilities. During the activity, volunteers participating in the activity traveled from house to house with their piggy banks asking for the cooperation of the residents and businesses of the area to give donations. Departmental coordinators reported that the target for Rivas was 150,000 Córdobas and that over 622,000 Córdobas was collected which helped the national campaign total surpass the 22 million Córdobas target. The theme this year was, "April 12th, the day that love donates”, and managed to unite hearts and fulfill the goal they set. The media campaign of the telethon starts two months before the event and involves all the country's media.

[email protected] Más de 30 mil córdobas se logro recolectar el Teletón en el municipio, actividad realizada el 12 de abril, así lo afirmó la Dra. Lea Jenny López, coordinadora de la actividad, quien expresó que el pueblo de San Juan del Sur siempre ha apoyado este esfuerzo de colaboración voluntaria para con las niñas y niños con discapacidades diferentes. Durante la actividad hubo desborde de participación voluntario, quienes recorrieron casa por casa con sus alcancías pidiendo la colaboración de los pobladores de la zona, ademas los empresarios entregaron sus donativos. Los coordinadores departamentales lograron sobre cumplir la meta de 150 mil y colectaron más de 622 mil córdobas y a nivel nacional se colectaron más de 22 millones de córdobas. El lema de este año fue; “12 de abril día en que el amor dona”, lograron unir corazones y sobre cumplir la meta que se propusieron, la campaña mediática del teletón inicio desde hace dos meses por todos los medios de comunicación del país.

Pacific Marlin Grass Fire
[email protected] A raging fire last April 7th consumed about four manzanas of dry grass in the Pacific Marlin development located about 500 meters from Barrio La Talanguera, north of the urban area, confirmed Rigoberto Arana, Head of the Risk Management Office of the Municipality of San Juan del Sur. The official said the fire started at 9:30 am on April 7th and was extinguished at 3:30 pm after 15 volunteers of the Civil Defense Brigades had fought back the fire using three backpack pumps, seven shovels, 16 buckets and three picks which avoided the fire spreading over the property. He said that the FSLN's Political Secretary; Wilfredo Pizarro was advising the Civil Defense Office and immediately mobilized the prevention brigade COMUPRED. The firefighters were notified of the fire but they argued they had no fuel to attend the site.

[email protected] Un voraz incendio consumió el pasado siete de abril unas cuatro manzanas de hierba seca en la urbanización Pacific Marlín ubicada a unos 500 metros del barrio La Talanguera al norte de la zona urbana , así lo confirmó Rigoberto Arana ,responsable de la oficina de gestión de riesgo de la municipalidad de San Juan del Sur. El funcionario dijo que el incendio inicio a las 9:30 de la mañana del siete de abril y que fue apagado a las 3:30 de la tarde, por 15 voluntarios de las brigadas de defensa civil, comento que durante el combate contra el incendio se utilizaron los siguientes instrumentos; tres bombas mochilas, siete palas, 16 baldes y tres picos, además se realizo un corta fuego el cual evito la propagación del incendio en la propiedad. Afirmó, que el secretario político del FSLN Wilfredo Pizarro, fue quien aviso a la oficina de defensa civil y de inmediato se movilizó a la brigada de prevención del COMUPRED, señaló que los bomberos fueron notificados del incendio pero estos argumentaron no contaban con el combustible para movilizarse al lugar. _______________

Some 400 people, mostly girls, boys and adults from the urban area of San Juan del Sur had fun attending the puppet show Guachipilín on April 11th on the Beach Road. The presentation was about the care of the environment, the history and geography of Nicaragua and showed the importance of maintaining clean coasts and rivers and focusing on cleaning the San Juan del Sur River. The presenters emphasized the motto to “live nice” and how to avoid throwing solid waste into the water, and the consequences for all. The troupe's work was sponsored by the local government, NGOs, civil society and private enterprise.
“Trash in the Trash Can”, that is everyone's responsibility, the Municipal Council, Paso Pacifico, Community Connect and the Amayo Wind Consortium joined together to celebrate Earth Day. More than 402 volunteers from different organizations and institutions as well as representatives from private companies and communities, including MARENA, Barrio La Planta Project, Grupo Guardabarranco Rivas, Escuela Margaret Monganroth and the Junior Rangers of Ostional and Tortuga to celebrate by cleaning the river and beach in the Bay of San Juan del Sur as a contribution to help reduce environmental pollution and degradation of our mother earth.

[email protected] Unos 400 pobladores en su mayoría niñas, niños, y adultos de la zona urbana de San Juan del Sur, se divirtieron con la exposición de la obra de teatro de títeres Guachipilín realizada el pasado 11 de abril en la zona costera. La presentación de la obra teatral tuvo como mensaje el cuido del medio ambiente, temas de historia, geografía de Nicaragua, mostraron la importancia que tiene mantener limpias las costas y los ríos, haciendo énfasis en la limpieza del río San Juan del Sur, los presentadores hicieron énfasis en el lema vivir bonito y la forma de cómo evitar botar desechos sólidos en el agua, además de las consecuencias que tiene para todos. La obra del grupo teatral fue patrocinado por el gobierno local, ONG organizaciones de la sociedad civil y la empresa privada en el municipio. _______________

The cleaning started at 9am with more than 402 happy volunteers ready to give their best They cleaned 2 km of beach and 3.4 kilometers of the river including both banks of the estuary, for a total of 5.5 km. They collected a total 2,535 pounds of mainly plastic garbage, filling over 300 bags which were transported to the municipal landfill to be recycled as part of the proper waste management. After 4 and a half hours of joint efforts, the event closed with a beautiful recital, which included folk dancing and singing to thank everyone for their efforts. _______________

La limpieza inicio a las 9 am más de 402 voluntarios con alegría y dispuestos a dar los mejor de sí, limpiaron 2 km de playa y 3.4 kilómetros de rio, tanto de ribera como el cauce, para un total de 5.5 km, recogiendo un total de 2,535 libras de basura principalmente plásticos, llenando más de 300 sacos que fueron trasladados al vertedero municipal para luego reciclar y darle el manejo adecuado a los desechos. Después de 4.5 horas de esfuerzos conjuntos, se clausuró la actividad con un bonito recital, que incluía bailes folclóricos y canto en agradecimiento al esfuerzo realizado.

Primera reunión de la oficina de patrimonio histórico cultural de San Juan del Sur María Silva – Del Sur News El pasado 8 de abril se realizo la primera reunión, con instituciones locales, técnicos de la Alcaldía Municipal y con pobladores reconocidos por su interés por la historia y deseo de preservar los bienes culturales de San Juan del Sur, en la sala da conferencias de la municipalidad. Esta Semana en La Historia de Nicaragua Fecha: 19 de abril 1990 Evento:La guerra civil nicaragüense de nueve años (1981-1990) terminó oficialmente. Fecha: 25 de abril 1990 Evento: Violeta Barrios de Chamorro asumió la presidencia de Nicaragua por un período de seis años.
History: In January 1981, Ronald Reagan took office as President of the United States and his administration wasted no time in announcing that it “deplores the Marxist Sandinista takeover of Nicaragua". In so doing, he set the scene for the next nine years (and beyond). During those years of conflict, 60,000 people died, the US embargo cost the country $50 million a year and any chance of the poverty alleviation goals of the Sandinistas working were destroyed. Also destroyed were agricultural cooperatives, schools, health care centers, bridges, power lines, and other major infrastructure. However; in 1988 to 1989, the ugly civil war in Nicaragua began to slowly come to a conclusion with the Sandinistas and Contras successfully negotiating a cease-fire in meetings held at Sapoá, Nicaragua in June of 1988. It took until February of 1989 for the five Central American presidents to meet again in Costa del Sol, El Salvador and agree on a plan on disarming and dissolving the Contra forces in Honduras and for voluntary repatriation into Nicaragua. President Ortega agreed to move the next national elections (that were scheduled for the fall of 1990) up to February 1990.
