Experiential dining The ultimate in experiential dining that introduces you to a unique gastronomic world, five hundred celebrates the synergy between food, wine and art. The Chefs pour all their passion, expertise and creativity into five hundred, culminating in a menu of superior fragrance and flavour. Individually presented to the guests by the Chefs and the Sommeliers, every course is paired with the finest local and international wines.

Ruinart Experience and Chef ’s Table The central focal point of the private dining room is the open plan Chef’s kitchen and the impressive glass wine cellar. Guests are treated to an extraordinary interactive experience as they watch the Chefs at work and immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of culinary artistry as their dishes come to life. The Saxon five hundred proudly presents the Ruinart Experience and the Chef’s Table. Exclusive groups of four to eight guests can enjoy a 6-course dinner with a twist. This is the ultimate private dining experience in an intimate atmosphere.

The wines The wine list for five hundred is the culmination of the Sommeliers’ wealth of experience and the outstanding wine programme that we have established at the Saxon. At five hundred the Chefs and Sommeliers interact with guests and pair the dishes with wines best suited and most delicious. In this way we ensure that the wine pairing selection includes well-known South African favourites as well as classic vintages and newly discovered gems to surprise the palate.

The Vegetable Garden Fresh pickings The Saxon’s culinary philosophy is to use only the freshest seasonal ingredients. Our extensive rooftop garden is a hidden treasure that serves as a constant source of inspiration for the Saxon Chefs in creating innovative dishes. They take great care in selecting and picking the freshest fruit and seasonal herbs and vegetables, ranging from carrots, cabbages and chives, to peas, beans, beetroot and aubergines.

Drawing our inspiration Saxon Qunu Grill is named in honour of our beloved elder statesman former President Nelson Mandela’s country home in the Eastern Cape, and takes you on the ultimate African grill experience. Savour an innovative menu with bold flavours, using only the finest South African cuts of meat, the freshest fish, handpicked seasonal ingredients and carefully selected produce from local artisans.

The ideal business lunch Business executives with demanding schedules can enjoy our specially designed Business Lunch menu, which is carefully planned to be served in under an hour. The menu offers guests a choice of either a two- or three-course meal or a grill menu served with a glass of wine.

Our favourite Breakfast is Executive Chef David Higgs’ personal favourite meal of the day. This is evident in the exquisite buffet breakfast that mirrors Chef Higgs’ pride and passion.

Sunday brunch The Saxon is renowned for the delicious buffet brunch served in Saxon Qunu Grill and on the Fig Terrace on Sundays.

terrace Alfresco dining The Terrace is the central meeting point of the Saxon. From dawn to dusk it is the perfect setting for relaxation and taking in the abundant birdlife while enjoying a refreshing cup of tea, cocktail or a delicious lunch.

Wine Cellars Impressive collection The Saxon’s remarkable wine collection is the culmination of the Sommeliers’ wealth of experience and the outstanding wine programme that we have established. The Sommeliers spend a great deal of their time in the Cellars, testing and tasting the wide range of proudly South African wines as well as classic international vintages to ensure that the perfect wine is paired with every meal.

Cigar Lounge Lingering flavours The Cigar Lounge with its extensive library is an intimate, sophisticated after-dinner retreat for lingering over a good cigar and your favourite single malt.

Cigar selection Our cigar selection presents a wide range of different sizes and flavours for the enjoyment or our discerning guests. Whiskey is a great accompaniment to an outstanding cigar and we have an extensive selection of Irish whiskeys, bourbons and single malts that are ideal for amplifying the taste and texture of your cigar.

High Tea Afternoon delight High Tea is an elegant ritual steeped in tradition and one of the Saxon’s specialities. A sophisticated afternoon awaits you in the Piano Lounge, which is ideal for taking a much-needed break from your busy day to catch up with friends over a cup of perfectly infused tea and handcrafted decadent delights.
