Celebrating 96 Years of Community Giving!

ChristmasShopFoundation.org

Dear Patrons, Imagine The Christmas Shop of 1920, women wearing hats and gloves perusing the collection of shops with their handbags dangling on their wrists. They were enjoying the variety of offerings from near and far knowing that their patronage supported the charitable needs of the community. The times have changed but the purpose of our fundraiser has not. For 96 years, the women of the Brandywine Valley have carried on the tradition of giving to and caring for our community. Through the years, The Christmas Shop has evolved and changed, keeping up with the times and refining its relevancy. It has changed its location, size, even its name, but one aspect of the fundraiser that will never change is its commitment to caring for its community. The Christmas Shop Foundation proudly presents , a name that aptly reflects the Foundation’s mission of giving.

The Perfect Gift

This year, we come together once again to present our annual fundraiser, but with a new twist. We’ve invited a selection of Brandywine Valley museums to join us. This year, we are thrilled to welcome Brandywine River Museum of Art, Hagley Museum and Winterthur Museum and Gardens. We are honored to have these world-class museums as partners and exhibitors at .

The 2016 Perfect Gift

Please join us in celebrating 96 years of caring and giving, the long and rich history of The Christmas Shop and the limitless potential of nonprofits working together to support and enrich our community. We welcome you to come and explore .

The Perfect Gift

Sincerely, Mary Louise (Zig) Shields Chairman of the Board Jane Gibson & Vicki Winton Chairmen of The Perfect Gift

“The Longest Running Christmas Shop in the United States”

1960 1961 1962 1963

In 1920, The Women’s Club of Trinity Church established The Christmas Shop as a fundraising event to benefit the Wilmington community. The first of its kind, our event has served as a model for similar shops throughout the country. The Christmas Shop was originally held in the showroom of the Wilmington Auto Company, now the Nemours Building. In 1924, the event moved to the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel du Pont and, in 1983, to the DuPont Country Club. The Christmas Shop was incorporated in 1952. In 1983 we became a community organization independent of Trinity Church, and a formal grant program was adopted in 1986. In 2003, in order to heighten community awareness of our fundraising efforts, our organization was renamed The Christmas Shop Foundation, and a formal mission was introduced as the name of our statement was adopted. premier fundraising event. As The Christmas Shop Foundation celebrates its 96th year, it has never faltered from its place as a viable organization in the community, and it continues its commitment to enriching lives and helping people in need throughout the State.

Thanks to the First State School at Wilmington Hospital, chronically ill youngsters can get a quality education even as they receive the medical treatment they need. The first school of its kind in the U.S., it’s a collaboration between Christiana Care and the Delaware Dept. of Education through the Red Clay School District. The First State School is one more way we’re partnering with the community to make a difference.
