Engineering Update – Gary Vlieg, Director of Engineering, Parks & Environment - Crack sealing program is underway. - Completing water main flushing. - McBurney Plaza revitalization is underway. - Summer banners are being installed. - Installing locking lids on the electrical junction boxes. - Water Parks will open on May 24th. - Hanging baskets will arrive on May 23rd. - Bedding plants will start being planted on May 27th. - Night paving on Fraser Highway between 56 Avenue and Production Way – tentatively scheduled for next week, weather dependent for 2-3 nights. - 192 Street – 50 Avenue/Colebrook to 52 Avenue in Surrey is closed for a minimum of 10 weeks for the Roberts Bank Rail Corridor project. Recreation Update – Kim Hilton, Director of Recreation, Culture & Community Services - The Langley Walk was a huge success with great participation – thank you to staff and volunteers. - The Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike event took place today and will take place again on Monday, May 13 starting and finishing at the Cascades Casino. - May 25 is the 3rd Annual Arts, Culture and Heritage Open House from 1 to 4 pm at Douglas Park. - Tri-it Triathlon on June 23 at Al Anderson Memorial Pool & City Park. - Cookie Monster Preschool only has a few spaces left. - Al Anderson Memorial Pool opens on Friday, May 10.

the over expenditure in the Garbage and Recycling and Transfer to Reserve expenditures. Mayor Fassbender invited the public to comment on the proposed bylaw amendment. REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING e) Bylaw 2914 Third reading of a bylaw to amend the 2012 – 2016 Financial Plan Bylaw. Motion #13/078 MOVED BY Councillor Martin SECONDED BY Councillor James THAT the bylaw cited as the “Financial Plan 2012 – 2016 Bylaw, 2012, No. 2876, Amendment No. 2 Bylaw, 2013, No. 2914” be read a third time. BEFORE THE QUESTION WAS CALLED In response to a question, the Director of Corporate Services advised that the bylaw had been advertised in the local newspaper notifying residents of the opportunity to provide comment on the bylaw. Councillor Hall stated that he disagrees with the process of the bylaw given that the public has not had an opportunity to learn about the bylaw amendment prior to public input. THE QUESTION WAS CALLED and same was CARRIED with Councillor Hall opposed.

NEW BUSINESS Pearl of Africa Baseball Tournament – Councillor Arnold advised that a Langley baseball team recently travelled to Uganda to play a team that was unable to attend the World Championship. The Governor General will be presenting some of the organizers with a Caring Canadian Award. Langley Walk - On behalf of Councillor Wallace, Councillor Schaffer thanked all of the organizers and volunteers of the Langley Walk with a special mention to PriceSmart Langley for providing oranges, water and volunteering their staff. Youth vs. City Council Cook-Off - Councillor Martin thanked PriceSmart staff for contributing the food for the Council/Youth cooking competition last week. Langley’s Got Talent - Mayor Fassbender provided highlights of the Rotary Event Langley’s Got Talent held this past weekend.
