Preface
SPINNER switches and relays have been designed and developed for excellent technical features. Some technical details are described below. Bistable switching (latching) Bistable switching (latching) is the switching from one stable condition into another whenever the control voltage is applied. Therefore a pulse is sufficient as a control signal, i. e. after switching presence of the control voltage is not required any longer. In the event of power failure the last switch position is retained. The same is true after re-starting the system.
Signal contacts Signal contacts are sets of contacts in a switch actuation system which give an external indication of various switch positions. Signal contacts are designed potential-free, which allows the user to employ them at his discretion within limits of the specific maximum load (max. 48V / 0.5A).
Interlock contacts The interlock contacts (max. load 48V / 0.5A) duplicate the RF-contacts and allow to remove the RF power prior and during the switching.
Manual operation In manually operated switches the user selects the desired switch positions by means of a knob at the switch. The switch is locked in its terminal positions so that the selected switch position is kept, even during vibration or rotation around the rotor axis.
Motor drive In switches with motor drive a capacitor motor (230V / 50-60Hz) with a gear generates the torque required for actuating the switch. The drive system is controlled by the integrated electronic operating at 12V or 24V DC. This drive system has a 90° rotation angle and is locked in its terminal positions. A high torque makes for short switching times, which are even achievable for large switches.
Solenoid drive Switches with solenoid drive are impulse solenoid drive and lifting operating voltage (preferably 24V trol both drive systems. These

achieve extremely short switching times (e. g. < 40 ms for the N coaxial switch). Therefore solenoid drives are mainly used for relays and switches up to the 7-16 interface.
Impulse solenoid drive Switches with solenoid drive generate the torque with a rotating magnet located in a stationary coil. The drive system is locked in both terminal positions (latching).
Lifting magnet drive By application of electromagnetic force a keeper is lifted from its resting position to its final position at the end of the stroke. When the control signal ceases the keeper is reset to its resting position. This is achieved by external forces (i.e. a spring). The drive system is not locked in both terminal positions (failsafe).
Hypocycloidic gear In switches with hypocycloidic gear the drive and the basic switch element are connected by a special gear developed by SPINNER. The hypocycloid gear changes torque and angular velocity over the switch rotation range. At the beginning of the switching process a very high torque is available, while the angular velocity of the switch rotor is fairly low. As the rotation angle grows bigger angular velocity increases continuously, while torque decreases. When the rotor has passed its central position the behaviour is inverted, angular velocity decreases, and the available torque rises again. The actuation system is mechanically locked in its terminal positions.
Degree of protection IP 40 was chosen as the general degree of protection so that the switches are suitable for indoor installation in any position.
Storage and operating temperatures These temperatures were defined as +10°C to +40°C for operation and -20°C to +80°C for storage. Switches for larger temperature ranges and for outdoor installation are available on request.
