ASIA’S PREMIER COAL MARKET EVENT oaltrans Asia, the premier coal event in the Asian region, will once again base itself this June in Bali, where it was launched so successfully nine years ago. Key topics that are vital to the Asian Coal Market will be addressed at the 9th Annual Coaltrans Asia Conference.

C

The Asian Thermal Coal Market continues to deliver the greatest potential for coal industry producers. Since 1995, demand has grown by 7% per annum in North Asian countries (Japan, Korea, Taiwan), and by 19% per annum in other Asian countries, according to industry experts Barlow Jonker. Will this growth in demand continue, and in what markets?

China at 84MT of exports continued in 2002 to closely maintain the massive growth that was seen in 2001, but will its burgeoning domestic economic growth stabilise the export surge? Will imports of thermal coal maintain the dramatic rise that has been seen in 2002 and 2003? Indonesia has shown signs that coal production is maturing while the internal demand has grown at a much faster rate than was anticipated, despite the complex political and economic challenges that the country faces. Where will the new coal production be located, and what are the reserves potential? Japan, which remains the Asian region’s largest consumer of steam coal, has sought incremental coal imports

Organised by the industry Both the event administration and the conference programme are provided by organisations whose sole business focus is the world coal industry. Coaltrans Conferences organises the world’s largest coal conferences, which attract delegates from all over the world. It also runs focused regional events, exhibitions, field trips and training courses. It has a reputation for employing the highest organisational standards. Indonesian Coal Mining Association represents the Indonesian export and Asosiasi Pertambangan Batubara Indonesia/ domestic coal industry. Its on-the-ground The Indonesian Coal Mining Association support to Coaltrans Asia ensures delegates a full understanding of the market and maximum value from the event.

following the problems in the nuclear industry. Will these extra volumes be maintained in 2003 and beyond, and what are the elements behind the proposed new import tariffs? Join the key producers supplying the Asian region and the key consumers who will give their views on how these events will unfold.

The Venue The Sheraton Resort (Sheraton Nusa Indah and Sheraton Laguna) and Bali International Convention Centre have won endless praise throughout Asia as one of the leading conference locations in the region.
