Jon Gibbs, President and General Manager, ExxonMobil Indonesia Jeff Spath, Vice President, Schlumberger Ltd. Steven Fulgham, Vice President of Operations, Weatherford Energy demand in the Asia Pacific region is expected to almost double by 2035, accounting for more than half the planet’s consumption. This represents a huge challenge for the industry, as a significant portion of this energy is expected to come from increasing oil and gas supplies. Significant supply needs to be added from new discoveries and by achieving success developing unconventional oil and gas resources in the region. Moving supply to market in this geographically diverse region is also a challenge to overcome. As many of the oil and gas fields in the region are mature, sustaining their production is also critical in meeting this objective. All of this needs to be accomplished in a highly volatile oil price environment. This Executive Plenary Session brings together an esteemed group of industry leaders to discuss: • How to increase exploration and exploration success • The potential for unconventional oil and gas in the Asia Pacific region • The effect of a lower oil price environment on the ability to sustain and increase production • Technological breakthroughs needed to meet the challenges • The role government plays in incentivising industry and overcoming barriers. www.spe.org/events/apogce/2015 9

Moderator: Chris Nussbaum, Interpretation Development Advisor, Archer UK Ltd. Speakers: Mohamad Othman, General Manager – Subsurface Asset Management, PETRONAS Kevin Lay, Technical Director, NauticAWT Energy Solutions Grant Lintern, Independent Consultant Rising energy demands imply the dual challenge of sustaining the current and ageing asset portfolio, while ensuring the development of durable new assets that will meet future integrity expectations. Perhaps the most significant business risks are present in the well construction and operating phase of the well lifecycle, while the engineering challenges of managing topsides integrity form the complementary part of this complex operating business. This session will highlight current thinking in integrity management, with particular focus on global learnings and developments that could be critical for the Asia Pacific region. • How can the identification and evaluation of business risk be sharpened? • What role can the developing ISO 16530-2 Well Integrity or other standards play? • What are the key levers and methods for sharing best practice on a global basis? • Will our planning and design processes deliver the assets the future demands? Our technical demands as an industry continue to grow broader, from producing ageing land assets to developing deep-water HPHT field, from CSG to unconventional shale plays. The panellists will consider how globally collaborative approaches may support flexible but robust management systems which can deliver the commercial, social and environmental targets demanded of us. The panel features industry experts with unique insights in the field of asset and well integrity. Together they will explore these key themes, and attempt to shine a searchlight on the path ahead.

Prasanth Kakaraparthi, Senior Analyst, Wood MacKenzie Ashish Sethia, APAC Lead – Gas and Power, Head of South and Southeast Asia, Bloomberg New Energy Finance The world demand for natural gas continues to grow as it is affordable, abundantly available and clean in terms of CO2 emissions compared to coal. This growth has led to many opportunities for LNG to bridge long distances between supply and demand regions and to unlock remote gas reserves. The LNG market has doubled in the first decade of this century and is expected to double again over the next decade. LNG is primarily used for electric power generation at a large scale. At a small scale, LNG is used as a transport fuel in cars, trucks and ships. LNG as a transport fuel may take off and grow rapidly. 10

2015 APOGCE There is still an abundance of natural gas in the world, but in more and more challenging environments, such as deep water and remote from shore. Floating LNG (FLNG) will be a key enabler to unlock these gas reserves. A small number of FLNG projects took the final investment decision and many prospects are being considered worldwide. These integrated projects are large, complex and capital intensive. This panel session will discuss the latest developments in LNG supply and demand, LNG as a transport fuel and the technological challenges to realise Floating LNG.

Mature fields represent both opportunity and challenge. Opportunity can come in the form of increased or extended production whilst challenges include: reducing operation and development costs; finding by-passed or unrecovered reserves; implementation of new technology and techniques such as IOR and EOR; maintaining the integrity of ageing facilities. To maximize the opportunity, it is essential that the relevant regulator/government agency, mature field operators and service providers are aligned both financially and operationally. This panel session will provide an opportunity for experts from operators and service companies to provide an insight into initiatives taken and technology or techniques used to encourage continuing development of mature fields.

Glyn Jones, Country General Manager, Petrofac Malaysia Juan Carlos Coral, Vice President of Development, Eni Indonesia Ltd. David Cavanagh, Managing Director, Integrated Energy Pty. Ltd. Rising energy demands and maturing of historical basins have compelled companies to push their investments and projects into areas with complex challenges that are not only resource related. New resources prospectives are found in more remote areas, in emerging markets with social, political, regulatory and substantial technical challenges. The resource base can be substantial, but access to the resources, proximity to market and the cost of development can limit, delay and possibly strand projects that could supply energy to the demand. Overcoming these challenges require a coordinated approach with equal focus on resource assessment, contracting strategy, facilities design, cost optimisation, fiscal terms and government and other stakeholders relations. Only when all of these elements are aligned can these major new projects be brought to market economically. www.spe.org/events/apogce/2015 11

2015 APOGCE This session will focus on the challenges of bringing resources to market that are more and more in remote areas, in difficult and/ or highly bureaucratic regulatory regime and challenging geographic environments such as deep water and remote on land areas with particular focus on developments that could be critical for the Asia Pacific region. – Large resources, large scale facilities and long time to market – Marginal resources requiring support scheme to be developed – Managing the benefits and risks of fast track projects – Working with governments (new, old and PSCs) – Remote access, difficult topography and distance to market – Integrity and abandonment consideration within the development scheme and realisation The challenges of accessing these resource bases that exist in difficult and more remote environments will be overcome to meet the increasing demand for energy sooner or later. The Asia Pacific region presents its share of these challenges as exploration opens up new areas, and also with long existing oil and gas histories and sophisticated and mature regulatory systems. Unlocking the potential in the region will require innovative solutions technically, socially and politically.

Tiranda, President and General Manager, Bukit Energy Indonesia Arnold Volkenborn, Director and Senior Vice President, Schlumberger Business Consulting, Asia Unconventional gas and oil is becoming mainstream in North America with astounding increases in production rates. US onshore oil production are at levels not previously seen since the 1980s, and there are now more than four shale areas producing more than 1 million barrels a day. This is an extraordinary achievement given the fact that in the entire history of the oil and gas industry there are only about 20 fields that have achieved this milestone. However, if the technology can be successfully applied outside North America, the implications of the shale revolution go way beyond the initial short term impact on world oil supply/demand. For example, better matching of geographical demand and supply and improved energy security could decouple regional energy prices from OPEC and provide potential areas of Asia energy independence. This panel session will review some of the factors that made North America successful and explore their implications in our regional technical and regulatory environment. – Of the main factors, is it geology, the technology or the regulatory framework that is the key? – How critical has the well-established, service company infrastructure been in the US? – Has the US system of individually owned mineral rights provided the critical momentum to initiate and sustain the industry? – Where will the region find the deep pockets, patience and willingness to experiment that American investors provided the shale industry during years of negative cash flow? – Can our regional governments and private investment community adapt and by how far in order to recreate the North American success? – Can the technology simply be imported or are localised adaptations and solutions necessary? – Will the very high regulatory burden present in many Asia Pacific producing countries stifle the momentum before the industry can become established? – Finally, does Asia really have the geological and stress environments needed at a scale large enough to support large developments? These are crucial questions for the industry and society at large. This panel is designed to bring experts from the industry to share their thoughts on these and other topics raised by the audience and from the presentations.

TRAINING COURSES

Training Course A

Managing Innovation and New Technologies in The Upstream Oil and Gas Industry

Thursday and Friday, 22-23 October 2015 • 0900-1700 hours • Legian 1 Instructor: Robert Perrons, Associate Professor of Technology Management and Strategy, Queensland University of Technology Course Content The upstream oil and gas industry has become more technology-intensive over the years. So how should a company manage the development, deployment, and use of new innovations that are emerging within the sector? Broadly speaking, this course gives participants an awareness of several of the recurring innovation-related themes and patterns that have emerged throughout the marketplace over the years, and explains how they are relevant to the upstream oil and gas industry. Day 1 Sessions • Role of Innovation in the Marketplace • Specific Challenges of Research and Development • Innovating in the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry • Sources of Innovation • Types of Innovation • Technology Standards and Design Dominance • Timing of Entry

Day 2 Sessions • Defining a Technology Strategy • Choosing Innovation Projects • Protecting Innovation • Strategies for Collaborating with Outside Organisations • Organising for Innovation • Managing the New Product Development Process • Design for Manufacturing • Stakeholder Engagement

Robert Perrons worked in a wide variety of roles and locations for Shell International Exploration and Production prior to joining the Queensland University of Technology. He started his career in Shell’s Strategy and Economics team in 1997, and then worked for several years as a production engineer in the company’s overseas operations (offshore and onshore). Rob has a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University in Canada, a Master’s degree in Technology & Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar. He is a Fellow of both Engineers Australia and the UK’s Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Training Course B

Upstream Joint Venture Negotiation, Formation and Participation

Friday, 23 October 2015 • 0900-1700 hours • Legian 2 Instructor: Ian Tchacos, Lykos Consulting Pty. Ltd. Course Content Joint ventures (JVs) are the most common business arrangement for oil and gas companies engaging in exploration, appraisal, development and production operations. The joint venture business structure is routinely used worldwide by “Major Oil Companies” and “International Oil Companies” (IOCs). Increasingly “National Oil Companies” (NOCs) that expand outside of their domestic theatre of operations must engage via JVs to participate in exploration and production on the international stage. This training programme is focused on providing participants with an understanding of the key elements of joint venture operating agreements, develop effective negotiation strategies during the joint venture formation phase, appreciate the rights and responsibilities of operators and non-operating partners and if required, understand the options for conflict resolution. Case studies will be used to simulate joint venture formation and negotiation. Sessions • Introduction to Types of Joint Ventures • The Role of Joint Ventures in the Oil and Gas Industry • Joint Venture Negotiation and Formation • Key Accounting and Financing Provisions

• Common Ancillary Agreements • Agreement Cost, Risk and Value Balance • Case Study: Joint Venture Formation and Negotiation • The Joint Venture Agreement (Agreement Walk-Through)

Ian Tchacos is an oil and gas professional with a track record of generating value through his involvement in a range of petroleum projects from exploration through to development as well as value generating acquisitions and asset sales. He has been instrumental in building a number of high growth oil and gas businesses through strategic acquisitions as well as organic growth in a range of junior to mid-sized oil company environments. His 30-year career has involved international experience in corporate development, strategy formulation, mergers and acquisitions, petroleum exploration and development, as well as commercial negotiation, oil and gas marketing, corporate and energy finance.

Reservoir Engineering for other Disciplines

Friday, 23 October 2015 • 0900-1700 hours • Legian 3 Instructor: Charles Evans, Consultant Reservoir Engineer, Esanda Engineering Course Content This one-day introductory course is designed to give oil industry professionals a deeper understanding of some of the key principles of reservoir engineering. Participants will be given a high level overview of how simulation models are constructed taking into account geological and geophysical (G&G) data and petrophysics. To run a simulation model we also need to know what are the operating constraints governed by the production facilities such as pipelines, separators and compression. Integrated Production Modelling will be examined and a brief overview of history matching will be given. Some of the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) mechanisms available today will be reviewed and an overview of oil and gas resource categories will be given. A discussion on the two main standards for resource bookings, SPE’s Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS) and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations will take place. Topics covered include: • The Role of a Reservoir Engineer • Fluid Properties • Rock Properties • Material Balance and Recovery Mechanisms

• Well Performance Evaluation • Well Testing • Water Flooding as Secondary Recovery Process • Modelling for Optimisation of Subsurface and Surface Assets

Charles Evans is a Consultant Reservoir Engineer with 20 years’ experience in the industry. He has worked on a variety of projects around the World including North Sea, Middle East, Africa and Asia. He has extensive experience of reservoir modelling in a variety of settings; gas condensates, tight gas, heavy oil and conventional water floods. The final two years of his career at Shell was spent in the Learning Centre in Rijswijk as Reservoir Engineering Advisor. In this role he was responsible for upgrading the Shell graduate training programme for reservoir engineers.

Whole Life Cycle (WLC) Cost Management

Friday, 23 October 2015 • 0900-1700 hours • Legian 4 Instructor: Terry Hancocks, Operations Manager, OMV Course Content This course will discuss the WLC cost which includes the planning, design, construction and acquisition, operations, maintenance, renewal and rehabilitation, and replacement or disposal, based on the exploration and production (E&P) business model. It will also discuss some important concepts and introduce a methodology for forecasting the operational expenditure (OPEX) estimates at the conceptual stage; how it satisfies the various financial investment decision gates; and how the cost estimate gains greater accuracy through project maturity to handover. Some of the areas that will be covered are: • WLC Cost Management - Need for WLC capital expenditure-operational expenditure (CAPEX-OPEX) asset management approach - The E&P cycle and management of risk process • WLC Asset Reference Planning - Information sources and maturity cycle - SWOT analysis • OPEX Methodology - Introduce the Activity Based Cost (ABC) concept

- - - -

Base case OPEX model to forecast cost Early conceptual modelling in WLC during project definition ABC model development aligned to project maturity “What if” scenarios for better cost effective options during design stage

• Operations, Performance and Late Life Optimisation - Ways to reduce OPEX costs and how to evaluate their benefits - Benchmarking and continuous performance improvement - Late life optimisation - Decommissioning

Terry Hancocks is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with over 30 years oil industry experience in operations and asset management for clients throughout the world. He is currently the Operations Manager at OMV, where he leads, develops, supervises and supports all aspects of the operations department’s activities including production, maintenance and drilling (work over and well maintenance) associated with offshore and onshore operations within approved OPEX and CAPEX targets in support of current and future business priorities.
