A le er from your school nurse... Flu season is fast approaching. When people are in close contact with one another, as children are at school, we need to follow good common sense germ preven on rules. Do not send a child to school with a fever, defined as a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, vomi ng and/or diarrhea, a draining pink eye, or a persistent uncontrollable cough. Children should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Children should also be kept home for an addi onal 24 hours a er their vomi ng and diarrhea has stopped. Please remind your child to keep his/her fingers away from his/her eyes, mouth, and nose. This is an important way to keep germs from entering our bodies. Reinforce to your child the importance of covering his/her cough to protect others around them from becoming ill. Encourage coughing or sneezing into the inner elbow to avoid spreading germs on the hands. Remind your child to wash his/her hands a er using the bathroom, a er sneezing into his/her hands, a er blowing his/her nose, a er coughing into his/her hands, and before ea ng. Remember to call the school office if your child will be absent and please no fy me if your child has been diagnosed by a doctor with a communicable illness, such as, strep throat, conjunc vi s, chicken pox, etc. If we all work together we can all enjoy the holiday season! Happy Holidays! Pa y Lubash, RN John V. Leigh School Nurse
Please show your Tiger Pride and bring a pair of new PJ’s to school between now and December 9th!
The Pajama Program depends on the generous support of volunteers, supporters, event hosts, pajama drive sponsors, and of course, donations of cozy new pajamas and new children’s books.

Tigers Giving Thanks This month’s Pride activity was one that really embraced the sentiments of the season. In observance of Veterans’ Day, all our Leigh Tigers met up with their buddies to participate in “A Million Thanks” program. Partners worked together to write letters of appreciation for our military. Our efforts helped the program’s sponsors meet their goal of sending letters to one million service men and women no matter their current status- active, reserved or Veterans. It was a great opportunity for our students to show their appreciation for their freedom as well as to show off their writing skills and spend some time with their new-found friends.
Student Council would like to thank all those who helped make our Thanksgiving Food Drive such a huge success! Your donations helped make this our best effort ever! Many local families in need will benefit from your generosity this holiday season. We truly appreciate you and your support!
Spanish News SHA (Sociedad Hispanica de Amistad) members recently competed in a poetry and poster contest at Niles North High School. Three students received first place (high honors) in poetry, and two of those three were chosen at the end to state the poem in front of the entire crowd! Other students placed second and third. Two of our nine students placed first in a poster contest (Spanish/language themed) and others placed in second or third. These students were the first to ever compete in a Spanish competition from Leigh, and everyone did a great job!
