January 30, 2018 A Message from the Principal:  Catholic Schools – Learn.  Serve.  Lead.  Succeed.  Dear Parents,

Welcome to Catholic Schools Week!  This week the 6,500 Catholic schools across the United States  celebrate Catholic education and its contribution to our Church and our nation.  For 55 years, St.  Anthony’s School has educated thousands of students; our school, along with the Catholic schools of the  Diocese of Fresno, represents the rich tradition of Catholic education in the Central Valley.  Our school  develops 21st‐century learners, engaged citizens, and people of faith; our students believe, achieve,  serve, and belong.         Catholic schools make education happen.  They are Christ‐centered, relevant, challenging, and  essential.  They value relationships.  And they are communities of faith, knowledge, and service.   Catholic schools enroll nearly half of all students in private schools in the United States.  They have the  highest national high school graduation rate: 99%; for comparison sake, the national average for public  school students is 82%.  85% of Catholic high school graduates attend a four‐year college; this is 22%  higher than other private school graduates and 41% higher than public school graduates.       Please join us for the special activities of this week (described in the attached flyer).  Thank you for  the sacrifices you make to send your child to a Catholic school and for entrusting to our school that  which is most dear to you – your child.  We are happy your family is a part of the mission of Catholic  education.  We are deeply honored to partner with you – the primary educators of your child ‐ in the  sacred privilege and serious responsibility of providing a Catholic education at St. Anthony’s School.  Let  us celebrate Catholic education this week and every day!  God bless you and your Catholic school family.  Live, Jesus, in our hearts forever.                               Susannah Nelson, Principal

Prayer for Catholic Schools Almighty Father, You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people. As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength. Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools. Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives. Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education. Bless St. Anthony of Padua School and the many people who advance our mission. May our school be a home for those who seek to grow in faith, knowledge, and service. May our community always support one another and exhibit hospitality to newcomers. Fill our minds with knowledge and wisdom. May our understanding of the world help us to grow in our appreciation of it. Fill our hearts with gladness. May we always turn to you in our times of need. Fill our hands with the tools we need to serve others. May we show them your unceasing love through our actions. Amen.
