Prospectus 2016/17

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly EQUIPPED for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Is it for me? If you are a Christian who has a desire to be equipped to inspire revival in your personal life, church, town, region and the nations then ADVANCE Bible School is for you! This weekly Bible-based school will help you the gain the knowledge and skills you need to advance in the Faith and reach your potential in God. Through providing high quality, varied and practical teaching ADVANCE School equips Christians to grow in their: 

Connection with God, the church and the world: knowing the presence of God and demonstrating His presence to others

Confidence to use their gifts through ministry and mission: bringing transformation to communities through effective service and outreach

Capacity to lead others: being effective in raising up people to take their place in an extraordinary generation of faith

The School complements other teaching and training provided by Revive Church, Revive Academy or your local church. It is a great next after completing some foundational Christian learning, such as through a Rooted or Alpha Course. However, it’s modular format provides something for everyone, wherever you are in your Christian journey and experience.

What will I learn? ADVANCE Bible School provides a range of teaching modules to equip students as they grow in their personal faith and specific areas of life, ministry and leadership. Whether you’ve been a Christian for many years or just a short time, there’s something for you! We have a focus on providing the students with a shared learning experience. This is where the whole class joins together in an adventure of discovering and applying Biblical principles on an individual basis. In that journey you will be learning about certain things and learning to do certain things: engaging in a practical learning environment that can really impact your life! All students complete a one-year course which includes the 20 session Foundations Module followed by 1 or 2 additional modules of their choice. The Foundations Module provides a solid grounding in Biblical principles and how they are applied to life (please see the Curriculum section at the end of this prospectus for more details about what will be covered). Additional modules include subjects such as leadership, pastoral ministry, prayer and family. Following your initial 1-year commitment you will be able to study additional modules, as and when you want to, to equip you more fully in specific areas of your discipleship and ministry.

The additional modules we provide at the end of year one and beyond vary, depending on the demand and availability of teachers. A list of modules being offered will be published in advance of the start of each term. If you are particularly interested in a certain module please let us know by filling out the Application / Interest Form.

What can I expect? Equip School sessions are on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9.00pm. The programme for each evening is flexible, depending on the subject being taught, but it may include: 

A short devotion, testimony or time of worship

2 45-minute sessions using a variety of methods such as up-front teaching, group discussions, videos, written work

A time of ministry and prayer

Opportunity to connect with other students and teachers over coffee (every session will include free coffee!)

You will be provided with printed notes from each session which can be filed in your very own ADVANCE Bible School file. Audio recordings of the sessions will also be made available to you as downloads, so you can listen again. Every module will contain some practical assignments, which will help you to put new knowledge into practice. These may include reflection, discussions, using some skill you have learned in the module, short presentations, etc., and will usually be completed outside of class. There will be about 3 assignments each term, which should take no more than 2 hours a week to complete. These practical assignments are not graded, but a tutor will feed back comments to you. There will opportunities for you to ask questions and have discussions with the teacher each evening. You will also have access to tutor-support to provide you with some ‘pointers’ in completing assignments, if you request this. This is usually by email, but can include telephone or face-to-face support, it there are specific needs. If you have any general questions or comments during your time with ADVANCE Bible School please contact James Seager ([email protected] / 07446 898149). If you have any additional needs (e.g. accessibility to reading materials or the building) you can expect us to do all we can to make ADVANCE Bible School relevant and accessible to you. Please contact us for a discussion about how we may be able to support you. Once a year there will be a celebration where we honour the students who have completed modules during the previous 12 months. This will take place during one of our Revive Church services, where you will be presented with a certificate. Finally expect to be inspired, challenged and grow! Expect your time with ADVANCE Bible School to help you connect with a wider circle of students and learn more about service and outreach.

What we expect To ensure every student gets the most out of the shared learning adventure that we have in the school, we expect every student to be fully engaged and committed to the learning process. We ask students to commit to the following: 

Completing the whole of the first year course, or their additional modules

Being present for the majority of sessions

Being ready to learn at the start of each session (the venue will be open 15minutes before the start time to allow you to be prepared)

Completing all assignments to the best of their ability

Treating students and teachers with honour

We also expect that all students will be actively engaged in their local church before and during their time with the school. This includes regularly attending the main worship service and contributing into the life of the church (e.g. through serving, prayer, belonging to a small group, etc.) Please note that you will need an attendance rate of at least 80% to graduate from the School, and being more than 10minutes late for a session will be marked as an absence. A reference from your church leader will also be required for you to enrol.
