International Day

Tomorrow, Saturday, 19 March St Leonards will be holding International Day which is a whole school event. The event will run from 10am-12pm. Entry is £2 and a host of fabulous foods and activities will be available in St Katharines Hall and on the Junior School sports pitch. We look forward to seeing you there.

Holi Celebration in Glorious Technicolour

This year we have been celebrating a wide variety of Festivals and International and local days eg Thanksgiving, Robert Burns etc. Next Wednesday our children who attend 'Bible Unwrapped' will be leading our Easter Assembly. All welcome.

Holi is an ancient festival which is referred to in the 7th century Sanskrit drama, Ratnaval. Thank you to Rita Dhasmana for supporting this assembly and for letting the children borrow her beautiful saris.

Year 4-7 Performances Next Week Year 4 & 6 will be performing their show on Monday, 21 March. Year 5 will perform on Tuesday, 22 March and Year 7 on Wednesday, 23 March. All shows will be performed in the Auditorium and all have a start time of 7pm. The performers who have already booked will have supper in the CDR before being taken to the Auditorium.

♫ ♪ Sweet Music from the Junior Strings ♫ ♪

Our wonderfully talented St Leonards Junior School musicians were on dazzling form on Wednesday at the Junior Strings Concert. The audience were treated to an array of auditory delights as the pupils demonstrated their talents on harps, violins and the cello.

Miss O’Brien, Mrs Love and the rest of the music department were delighted to see so many pupils so keen to display their musical skills.

St Leonards Welcomed In the past two weeks St Leonards Junior School has welcomed Mr William Urquhart of HMI and Mr Ken Muir Chief Executive of the GTCS. Both have been impressed with the work happening in the Junior School. Mr Urquhart gave us a huge compliment saying ‘St Leonards is nation leading’. Very well done to all of the staff, pupils and parents for all of the hard work and support.

It’s Snot - But Not as We Know It

On Monday, the budding scientists from Years 1, 2 and 3 made their own snot with the help of scientists from Dundee University. With tissues at the ready, bedecked in white coats and plastic gloves the pupils where armed with test tubes and the desire to experiment. Our thanks go to parents Vicky McGuire and Sam Swift for what was a fun and educational afternoon!

Year 4 and That Royal Wedding

Year 4 were invited to a royal wedding. That is to say they were invited to tour the sites of an historic royal ceremony. On Tuesday Dr Elizabeth Rhodes delighted Year 4 with a guided tour. They got to see the locations in St Andrews that were used for the celebration of Mary of Guise and King James V’s wedding celebrations.

SLJS Sporting News Scottish Cross Country You may remember last month the U12s and U10s competing, with some success, in the Bellhaven Prep Schools Cross Country event. Following on from that St Leonards attended the Scottish Cross Country Championships held in Irvine on Saturday, 5 March. The U13s, Year 8 pupils, went on to win. So a big well done to last year’s Year 7 pupils Freddie Clarke, Alexander Clark, Tom Logan and Tomas Badia. Hopefully they will be an inspiration for our Junior runners. U11 & U13 Swimming Yesterday 4 of our U11s and 4 U13s attended a Swimming Gala at Kilgraston School and did very well indeed. St Leonards were runners up in both the U11 and U13 categories. We were they combined winners retaining the trophy from last year.

All of the girls participating swam very well they made a number of finals. At time of writing we are still awaiting the results of two events as they were so close. Kings Camp – Easter Activity

St Leonards will be once again hosting Kings Camps. They provide the opportunity for children to try new sports and active games, bringing fun and excitement to the school holidays. Online Activity Registration

The ICT departments are looking to trial the Summer Activities booking online. All after school and lunchtime activities will be listed. The system will go live next week and an email will go out let all parents know the exact date and time. If you have any difficulties please contact Mrs Dewar who will alert the ICT department.
