CREATING THE NEW LOOK The new logo and tagline were created as a collaborative effort of the marketing committee, Maleta Schmidt (creative professional), Julie Brashaber (Franklin College student designer) and staff. The logo was approved by the JCCF’s board of directors. The foundation extends a huge thank you to our committee volunteers who have contributed countless hours to the cause.

The Johnson County Community Foundation, established in 1991, is a nonprofit organization created by and for the people of Johnson County to help make the community a better place for everyone.

Ü The foundation awarded Creekside Elementary School’s Boomerang Backpacks program a $5,000 grant from the Community Impact Fund. The program provides economically disadvantaged students with weekend lunches.

OUR VISION

The Johnson County Community Foundation strives to be the philanthropic leader in improving our community, today and in the future, by connecting people who care with causes that matter in Johnson County.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD CHAIR & PRESIDENT/CEO

MAKING THE CONNECTION We hope you like the new look of the Johnson County Community Foundation’s (JCCF) Annual Report. As you will see, a lot of changes were put in motion following the July 2011 adoption of a new strategic plan. Two of the most dramatic changes are the new logo and tagline, “connecting people who care with causes that matter.”

OUR MISSION

Why a new tagline and logo? While foundations were historically built on securing endowments for the future, current donors are looking for ways to plan for tomorrow and see good things happen during their lifetime. We took a step back and asked ourselves, “what is it we really do for the community?” We reviewed our yearly activities and realized that we connect people who care with causes that matter every single day, in this lifetime or as their legacy. The new logo is many things, including outstretched arms of people being connected with their causes. It also represents the three major roles of a community foundation: endowment building; grantmaking (including scholarships); and convening the community around causes. As you can see, the logo is constantly in motion and reflective of what is happening at JCCF.

To enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Johnson County, now and for generations to come, by building community endowment, addressing needs through grantmaking, and providing leadership on key community issues.

Reading through the report, you will see how the new logo and tagline are used to illustrate the good work that JCCF and you, as a donor, do for this community. We hope you will embrace the changes and help us continue to improve our service to Johnson County. Sincerely,

Ed Deiwert, board chair

An evening of mystery and elegance was had aboard the Starlight Express as the guests attended a 20th anniversary masquerade ball. The guests arrived donned in their finest and clad in masks of every shape and size. A highlight of the event was the celebration of the foundation’s 20th year. Chelsi Mobley, a past recipient of a Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, shared how her life has been changed by the foundation.

“Guests were in tears as Chelsi shared her story. She did a fantastic job verbalizing how JCCF is positively impacting lives,” said Steve Spencer, JCCF board member. Nearly 300 guests were in attendance at the event, and more than $55,000 profit was raised throughout the evening by donations and auction sales. The funds will provide ongoing support for community events, workshops and other needs throughout 2012.
