Located on the Caribbean coast, Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica’s most exciting wildlife habitats. As you cruise through the maze of jungle canals, you may see many species of birds and monkeys, as well as tree sloths and caiman. Tortuguero is the most important nesting site for endangered green turtles from July to September.

Located 3½ hours northwest of San José, Monteverde is perhaps Costa Rica’s best-known reserve. This tour combines several eco-sites that are among the best reasons for visiting Costa Rica, all in a fairly compact itinerary. The scenic Arenal Valley has the country’s largest lake as well as its most active volcano. Monteverde has one of the richest cloud forests in the Americas, with at least 400 species of birds and over 100 mammalian species. End your tour with a restful stay at one of the beach hotels in beautiful Guanacaste, before turning in your rental car and departing from the Liberia airport.

This tour offers the same first 5 days as Driving Tour 1, with stays in Arenal and Monteverde. Then drive south to the interesting town of Quepos, gateway to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is famous for its virgin forests and its beautiful white sand beaches. You can kayak through this protected wonderland of mangrove trees, home to hundreds of different species of birds, crocodiles, monkeys, and sloths.
