Madhu main goal is to help the children build positive and respectful relationships by providing a safe and developmentally appropriately environment where all children’s needs are met. Madhu offers children different play-based opportunities to explore their environment through their senses such as making honey cake with the children for Rosh Hashanah. The rags to riches story of Sophie Tucker, an iconic superstar who ruled the worlds of vaudeville, Broadway, radio, television, and Hollywood throughout the 20th century. Before Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Bette Midler, Marilyn Monroe, and Mae West, Sophie Tucker was the first woman to infatuate her audiences with a bold, bawdy and brassy style unlike any other. Using all of “The Last of the Red Hot Mamas” 400plus recently rediscovered personal scrapbooks, authors Susan and Lloyd Ecker take you on their seven-year journey retracing Tucker’s sixty-year career in show business (USA, 2014)

Mr. Kaplan For tickets phone (204) 477-7510 or visit www.radyjcc.com

Jacob Kaplan lives an ordinary life in Uruguay. Like many of his other Jewish friends, Jacob fled Europe for South America because of World War II. But now turning 76, he’s become rather grumpy, fed up with his community and his family’s lack of interest in its own heritage. One beach bar may, however, provide him with an unexpected opportunity to achieve greatness and recover his family’s respect in the community: its owner, a quiet, elderly German, raises Mr. Kaplan suspicion of being a runaway Nazi. Ignoring his family’s concerns about his health, Jacob secretly recruits Contreras, a more loyal than honest former police officer, to help him investigate. Together, they will try to repeat the historic capture of Adolf Eichmann: by unmasking and kidnapping the German and secretly taking him to Israel. (Uruguay, Spain, Germany, 2014)

24 Days

French director Alexandre Arcady delivers one of the most “wrenching and politically astute” films to come out of France (Screen Daily). Based on a book co-written by Ilan’s mother, Ruth Halimi, Arcady’s cinematic adaptation offers a searing insight into his vicious ordeal, the violent world of the gang of Barbarians, and the harrowing experience of his family waiting and hoping the police would save their son. For 24 days the police, insistent upon handling the case as a normal forransom kidnapping, fail to recognize the anti-Semitic hatred of his abductors. Many opportunities to save Ilan are missed or squandered as his family receives nearly 700 phone calls, insults, threats, photographs and sound recordings of their tortured son. (France, 2014)

The legacy of the brilliant and beloved Yiddish music anthologist and scholar Chana Mlotek z”l, who passed away in November 2013, is expressed movingly and eloquently in a musical tribute performed by her son, renowned Yiddish concert artist Zalmen Mlotek, and her grandchildren. The many volumes of Yiddish songs she compiled and published have served as the inspiration for many who joined the international revival of Klezmer and Yiddish music, and have offered a rich window into the musical treasures left to us by Eastern European Jewry. In this concert the grandchildren explain and contextualize the musical gems that Chana unearthed, and perform them with heart and soul. They are the newest link of the Goldene Keyt - the golden chain of Yiddish cultural continuity.

Private and semi-private lessons are offered during the same time and days as group lessons but are dependent on instructor availability. A semi-private lesson is for two participants of approximately the same ability. It is the responsibility of the participants to find the person they would like to swim with. For more information or to book a private or semi-private lesson, please call Jayelle at (204) 477-7541 or email [email protected]

PhilanthroPy today Why there’s no better time than now to give back In recent years, the tax rules regarding charitable giving have become increasingly flexible and generous, and contain incentives to encourage Canadians to give to charity. When given appropriate consideration, charitable giving can benefit both donor and recipient. You get a vehicle through which you can help the causes you care about and society benefits as a whole. When considering making large gifts, contact the professionals at RBC Dominion Securities. Investment Advisors Paul Winestock, Ryan Downey and Brendan Rogers can help ensure that your philanthropic goals are in line with your investment strategy. They’ll work closely with your tax and legal team to make sure that every angle – financial, estate and tax – is considered.
