AN ESCAPADE IN BRITTANY FROM SAINT-MALO TO THE MONT-SAINT-MICHEl Sea air, Programme: history and Saturday: Arrival at Dinan at the end of the morning. Lunch gastronomy at a restaurant followed by a guided tour of the town on foot.

Transfer by boat from Dinard to Saint Malo at the end of the day. Installation in the hotel and shopping followed by an evening meal in a traditional “crêperie”. Sunday: Discovery of the privateers’ port and its ramparts, followed by a visit to a traditional biscuit-maker for tasting Brittany biscuits. Lunch at Cancale before taking the road to the Mont-Saint-Michel. A visit to the village and its famous abbey followed by the return to Paris at the end of the afternoon.

Between land and sea, set off to conquer Brittany! Proud of their roots, the Bretons have always thirsted for adventure. Jacques Cartier, Surcouf or even Duguay-Trouin were all born in Saint-Malo, the old corsairs’ town, whose ramparts seem to have been designed as an eternal challenge for the elements. Most certainly a wise precaution, as the town, like Mont-Saint-Michel close by lives to the rhythm of the largest tides in Europe: legends say that the tide comes in as fast as a galloping horse at Mont-Saint-Michel. Fall under the charm of the picturesque towns of Dinan and Cancale before indulging in a gourmet moment. It is said that that the air from the open sea sharpens your appetite. Buckwheat «galette» or normal wheat “crêpe” pancake? It’s up to you!

HERGE EXHIBITION IN THE GRAND PALAIS: A VISIT TO THE LAND OF THE 9TH ART Exhibition, retrospective, comic strips

Programme: A guided tour of the Hergé exhibition in the Grand Palais in the company of a French-speaking lecturer and guide. The exhibition recalls the whole career of the inventor of the «clear line» (where colours are separated by pen strokes of constant thickness), from the first steps made by Tintin and Quick and Flupke in the “Petit Vingtième” magazine through to the unfinished “Tintin et l’Alph’art” interrupted by the author’s death in 1983. The visit will be concluded by a glass* offered together with the lecturer.

You have most certainly read one if not all of his albums. Hergé, considered today as one of the greatest contemporary artists has sold almost 250 million albums, which have been translated into about one hundred different languages. Who has not been enthralled by the bewildering adventures of Tintin and his faithful companions, the thunderous Captain Haddock, the absentminded Professor Calculus and the Thomson and Thompson team, the most famous twins in the history of comic cuts. From Tintin in the land of the Soviets to the Blue Lotus, from Destination Moon to the Castafiore Emerald, the exploits of our friendly globe-trotting reporter have been read by every generation on every continent since 1930. This autumn, the Grand Palais in Paris is dedicating a retrospective exhibition to the creator of Tintin, the Belgian Georges Rémi - better known by his pen name of Hergé. An enthralling plunge into the world of an artist well at ease in his times, who Andy Warhol called his spiritual father and who succeeded in giving contemporary comic strips their titles of nobility in just a few pen strokes. *Abuse of alcohol can harm your health. SHOWS

OLIVER TWIST, THE “EVENT” MUSICAL WITH ENGLISH SUPERTITLES

Location: PARIS Date: Saturday December 3rd 2016 Length: the evening

Theatre, music and emotion

Programme: A musical in French, with English supertitles, adapted from Oliver Twist Charles Dickens’ masterpiece published in the form of a serial between 1837 and 1839. Staged by Ladislas Chollat. Inaugurated in 1907 and refurbished in 1999, the Salle Gaveau theatre, classified as a historic monument, has succeeded in preserving its old-fashioned atmosphere perfectly consistent with the work of the British novelist. Much appreciated by chamber orchestras and classical soloists, the “human-sized” theatre is one of the best in Paris for its acoustics.

15 multi-talented artists, singers, actors and dancers: 15 talented persons devoting all their passion to revisiting one of Dickens’ major works: well-served by the unequalled acoustics of the famous “Salle Gaveau” theatre, classified as a historic monument, the Oliver Twist musical is undoubtedly one of the most awaited cultural events at the end of the year. Alternating between seriousness and sarcasm, the novel portrays the slums of Victorian England without any concessions via the perilous route of an orphan determined to escape from his life of misery. This poignant work where suffering and cruelty live side-by-side every day has been treated soberly and realistically by a tandem composed of Shay Allon and Christopher Delarue. A deliberate bias, unambiguously showing that the work and its social purpose, even though it was edited almost two centuries ago, is still as young and fresh as ever. Not to be missed under any circumstances!

Practical information: Rendezvous at 7:30 pm in front of the Salle Gaveau 45-47 rue de la Boétie 75008 Paris Metro: Miromesnil station (Lines 9 and 13) End of the show about 10:30 pm Number of places 19 + 1 Leader
