On January 15, the Friars defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 67-58, in the team's final non-conference game. Providence finished with a 7-4 mark in regular-season nonconference action. FRIARS 3-0 WHEN THEY MAKE 11 THREES IN A GAME... The Friars tied their season high for three-point baskets in a game when they shot 11-21 from behind the three-point arc in a 93-80 win against Boston College on January 2. This season, the Friars are 3-0 when they make 11 three-point baskets in a game. PC also registered 11 three-point baskets against Brown on November 23 and Richmond on December 19. In 23 games this season, the Friars have attempted 477 three-point baskets. As a team, PC has made 163 of its 477 attempts (.342z). Junior Romuald Augustin (Montreal, Quebec) is the team's top three-point shooter. He has made 31 of his 79 attempts (.392) from behind the three-point line. FRIARS CAPTURE SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN AGAINST ST. JOHN'S... On February 15, the Friars earned their sixth consecutive win against St. John's, 69-59. It marked the first time ever that Providence had won six consecutive games against the Red Storm. The Friars' last loss to the Red Storm was a 61-46 defeat at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on February 8, 2000. Since the BIG EAST was formed in 1979-80, Seton Hall is the only other league team that the Friars have defeated six consecutive games. The Friars won nine straight against Seton Hall from February 4, 1984 to February 25, 1987. MCGRATH AT THE POINT... Freshman Donnie McGrath (Katonah, N.Y.) has been the team's primary point guard this season. McGrath, who is averaging 9.4 points per game, has started all 23 games this season for Providence. He has registered 114 assists this season (5.0 assists per game) and leads the team in that category. On February 15, he scored 13 points and added four assists in a 69-59 win at St. John's. McGrath posted his best game as a Friar when he shot 5-7 from behind the three-point arc and recorded a career-high 23 points versus Boston College on January 2. He registered a game-high 10 assists in the Friars' 74-71 win against Pennsylvania on December 30. For McGrath, it marked the second time this season he has recorded 10 or more assists in a game. He had a game-high 13 assists in the Friars' 91-68 win against Ohio University

on November 30. His 13 assists were the most assists by a Friar since God Shammgod recorded 13 versus West Virginia on January 20, 1996. His 13 assists also tied a Providence freshman record for assists in a game set by God Shammgod versus WVU and Ricky Tucker versus Canisius on February 4, 1980. GOMES LEADS FRIARS IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING... Sophomore Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 18.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. In the Friars' most recent game, he posted his 12th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-69 win against Miami on February 18. On February 15, Gomes recorded the second highest point total of his career with 28 points in a 69-59 win at St. John's. Gomes scored 24 points and registered nine rebounds in an 80-69 loss to Boston College on February 12. On February 4, Gomes recorded 26 points in a 68-61 loss to Pittsburgh. On January 21, Gomes scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 71-65 loss to Notre Dame. On December 23, Gomes was named BIG EAST CoPlayer of the Week after posting two strong games against Richmond and Alabama. He had 21 points and 12 rebounds in a 69-61 loss to Alabama on December 21. Last season, Gomes was a BIG EAST All-Rookie Team selection after averaging 13.8 points per game and 7.8 rebounds. LAST SEASON... In 2001-02, PC posted a 1516 record overall. In 16 BIG EAST games in 200102, the Friars registered a 6-10 record and finished sixth in the East Division. MILLS OUT OF THE LINEUP... Senior guard Abdul Mills (Brooklyn, N.Y.) is injured and will not play in Saturday's game versus Villanova. He has not played this season. Mills led the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) in 2001-02. He scored 20 or more points five times last season, including a career-high 27-point effort in a 69-60 win over UTEP on November 21, 2001. Mills scored in double figures in 25 of the 29 games he played in during 2001-02. FRIARS ON THE RADIO... All the Friar action this season can be heard on 630 WPRO with John Rooke and former Friar Joe Hassett calling all the action.
