Enter through Green Gate on 17th Street and follow signs to Arts Building (formerly Floral Building). Bring a copy of your online registration receipt (see instructions this page). Pick up entries: Tuesday, September 8, 1 pm to 7 pm Wednesday,September 9, 10 am to 5 pm

By submitting an entry into the Fair, exhibitors agree to abide by all rules, regulations and entry requirements of the Fair and of the department(s) to which they are submitting entries. It is important that exhibitors read and be familiar with the General Rules as well as the Competition Rules in this Handbook.

1. Then go to the http://oregon.fairmanager.com 2. Click Register, or Sign In (for return visits).

 Register using your First and Last Name and create a password (write password down).  Fill in requested information, including email address. Enter age only if under 18. Click Continue.  Select Department ex.: Fine Arts  Select Division ex.: Professional, Division 100  Fill in all information for your entry, including a brief Description if needed. 3. When all your information is complete, click Add Entry to Cart and follow instructions to check out. (NOTE: If you think you may want to modify your entries, you may save your current session and check out at a later session. Be sure to Check Out before the closing date listed for your department; entries are not submitted to the Fair office until the check out process is complete.) 4. Fill in “yes” at the statement to agree to all the terms and conditions of entry as defined in this Handbook. 5. Click Submit. 6. Please print and bring a copy of your detailed online entry receipt with your entries when you bring them to the Fair. Please contact us (below) with any questions.

GENERAL RULES 1. Oregon State Fair (OSF) competitions are open to residents of Oregon only. Entries do not need to be entered or have won at a county fair to be eligible for any competition.

9. Ribbons and/or prizes will be awarded as warranted. All judges’ results are final. Results cannot be provided over the phone but will be posted online when available.

2. Online entries must be submitted by the date indicated within each department handbook. Paper applications will not be accepted. Information must be accurate and complete. Walk-in entries will be accepted during intake days but may be limited.

10. Protests may be submitted to the Creative Living office accompanied by a deposit of $25 which will be forfeited if the protest is not sustained. Protests must plainly state the cause of the complaint or appeal and submitted within 24 hours of the action.

3. Entries must be delivered and removed only during the scheduled times. Any exception shall be at the discretion of OSF staff.

11. Ribbons and scorecards (as available) can be picked up when entries are returned at the end of Fair. See specific departments for return days.

4. Entries will receive a claim check upon delivery. Exhibitor must present claim check or valid Oregon ID when picking up entries. 5. Some competitions require an entry fee. See specific departments for fee and processing information. 6. OSF staff or a judge may disqualify or transfer any exhibit which is not a true representation of the class in which it is entered or if rules are not followed. 7. Judging is closed to the public unless otherwise noted. Every reasonable effort is made to secure highly qualified judges with expertise in their field. 8. Entry by OSF staff, volunteers or judges is prohibited in the department in which they are working. They may enter other departments.

12. Exhibitors shall indemnify OSF from and against all claims for damage to persons or property caused by them or by their exhibits. 13. OSF will take reasonable precautions to ensure safety of exhibits while on the fairgrounds, but will not be responsible for loss, damage, theft or injury of any kind to exhibits or exhibitors, unless the loss or damage is due to the negligence of OSF staff and volunteers. 14. Exhibitors found in violation of rules, or found to be in practices unethical or adverse to the OSF, shall be penalized by forfeiture of awards and/or privileges, and removed from the exhibit. 15. Items not picked up by final return days of each department are forfeited by exhibitor.

The Oregon State Fair reserves the final and absolute right to interpret any and all terms, conditions, rules and regulations contained in any and all parts of Department Handbooks and to settle and determine all matters, questions or differences in regard thereto, or otherwise arising out of, connected with or incidental to the Oregon State Fair. OSF further reserves the right to determine unforeseen matters not covered by General or Competition Rules, and to withdraw award offerings in all Competitions should any emergency exist and circumstances demand. In the event of discrepancies between General and Competition Rules, Competition Rules will supersede General Rules.

COMPETITION RULES

EXHIBITION STANDARDS – Apply to all Divisions 1. All General Rules Apply. Your submission indicates you have read and agree to abide by the General Rules and the Rules of this Competition. 2. Entry in the Fine Art Department competition is open to all Oregon residents. 3. Entry fees are required in the Professional and Non-Professional Divisions. All entry fees are non-refundable. 3

All fine art media is accepted with the exception of motion picture, video, or performance art.

Artwork must be an original expression of the artist. No commercial pattern, kit, mold or mechanical reproduction (laser or giclee print) is allowed.

Artwork previously exhibited at the Oregon State Fair is ineligible for entry.

Jurying of artwork in all Divisions is from original artwork delivered to the State Fairgrounds on intake days.

Maximum size for a two-dimensional artwork is 60” in either direction. Three-dimensional artwork should not exceed 100 lbs. or 60” in height.

All 2-D work must be suitably framed and wired. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS. (Please see hanging diagram below).

All artwork must be properly labeled with artist’s name, phone number, title of artwork, medium and sale price (or “not for sale”). The label should be securely fastened to the back of the artwork. (See sample, below).

10 Artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibit. Substitution for accepted artwork is not permitted. 11 OSF will retain a 20% commission on all artwork sold at the Fair. The artist’s portion of the sale (80%) will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the close of the Fair. 12 Jurors will award ribbons in each Division based on merit. Jurors’ decisions are final. The People’s Choice award will be determined by votes of Fair attendees and will be posted to the website at the end of the Fair. 13 The names of all award winners and images of their artwork will be posted on the Fair website as soon as available. 14 Entries that meet Exhibition Standards will be displayed as space allows. 15 Because the State Fair is a family-friendly event, OSF reserves the right to withhold an entry from display that it considers inappropriate for children. If an entry is withheld, every effort will be made to contact the artist prior to Fair opening. 16 The Fine Arts Department does not carry insurance. Although the utmost care will be taken in the handling of artwork, OSF and its employees and volunteers are not responsible for loss or damage from whatever cause. Insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist. 17 All artists must pick up their artwork on Tuesday, September 8 between 1 pm and 7 pm and Wednesday, September 9 from 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

2015 OREGON STATE FAIR FINE ART JURORS (All Divisions) Hester Coucke has worked as the Curator for the Corvallis Arts Center for 25 years, selecting work, designing and installing exhibits with the assistance of an Exhibition Committee. She has served on selection committees for Oregon’s Percent for Arts Program, and as a guest curator and juror for other arts organizations. Coucke was trained as an art teacher for young adults in her native country, the Netherlands. She has an MA in Art History from the University of Amsterdam, with fields of interest in Architectural History and Modern Art.

Yuji Hiratsuka was born in Osaka, Japan. He has a B.S. in Art Education from Tokyo Gakugei University, and degrees in printmaking from New Mexico State University (MA) and Indiana University (MFA). He currently is a professor of printmaking at Oregon State University. Hiratsuka has received numerous international awards. Since 2010 he has had 13 solo shows in the US, as well as in Korea, Canada and Northern Ireland. Some of the public collections that include Hiratsuka’s art are The British Museum, Tokyo Central Museum, Panstwowe Museum in Poland; The House of Humor and Satire in Bulgaria, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cleveland Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, New York Public Library, The Library of Congress and The Smithsonian’s Museum of Asian Art.

DIVISIONS IMPORTANT: All Exhibition Standards (above) apply to all Divisions. Please read carefully as work not meeting Exhibition Standards will not be accepted.

PROFESSIONAL DIVISION 110 Any artist, 18 years or older, who is actively working in visual art and/or selling their artwork for a living. Due to time constraints, the Professional Division will be judged from original artwork. We hope to reinstate jurying by digital submissions in 2016. 

All artwork must have been completed within the last three years.



There is a $5.00 fee per entry. Limit of two entries per exhibitor.



Jurying will be from original work. Notification of jurors’ results will be sent by email.



Artrwork not selected for exhibition must be picked up on Tuesday, August 25, 10 am to 7 pm.



AWARDS: Three Awards of Merit of $100 each

NON-PROFESSIONAL DIVISION 112 Any artist, 18 years or older, who does not work as a professional artist. 

All artwork must have been completed within the last three years.



There is a $5.00 fee per entry. Limit of two entries per exhibitor.



Jurying will be from original work. Notification of jurors’ results will be sent by email.



Artrwork not selected for exhibition must be picked up on Tuesday, August 25, 10 am to 7 pm.



AWARDS: First Place: $100 Second Place: $50 Third Place: $25

Limit one artwork per entry. There is no entry fee in the Young Artist Divisions.



Artwork must have been completed within the last year.



Indicate age at time artwork was completed.



Jurors for the Non-Professional Division will determine awards in both Divisions.



Jurors’ decisions are final.



All artwork will be displayed as space allows.
