Practice Rooms PRIORITY LEVELS FOR PRACTICE ROOM USE: LEVEL I: LEVEL II: LEVEL III:

Scheduled private instruction. Students enrolled in private music instruction at CSN. Students enrolled in an ensemble/class piano or guitar at CSN.

There are four practice rooms in the music area of the Cheyenne Campus. These include rooms H139143, each of which contains a piano. Room N104E contains drum/percussion equipment and is available only to music students enrolled in drum/percussion lessons or approved CSN ensembles.

Each semester, students wishing to use practice room facilities will need to sign the schedule posted during the first week of each semester on the appropriate practice room. This routine must be repeated each semester. During the first week of school, all music majors and students registered for private lessons will be allowed to sign up for a 2 hour daily maximum time allotment. During the second week, additional time will be available to reserve on the same form. After the second week of school, all other time will be open on a first come first serve basis. 3. All students will turn off the light as they exit the practice room. 4. If a student is found responsible for damage to a room or equipment, the student will be charged for damages. Grades, transcripts, and other student records will not be released until the charges for the damages have been paid. 5. There is no food or drink allowed in ANY practice room at ANY time. Failure to comply with this policy will result in loss of practice room privileges. 6. Failure to use your assigned practice room at the assigned time may result in the loss of practice room privileges.

Music Resource Lab Use and Policies The CSN Music Resource Lab (MRL) is for the exclusive use of CSN music students and staff. The intent of the lab is to facilitate exposure of different types of music media (i.e., CD, tape, video tape, long-playing records, DVD, laserdisc, etc.) for the educational benefit of students. All use of the MRL must conform to the following guidelines: 1.

All use of this facility should be directly related to course work in a CSN music class.

2.

Students who use this facility must be currently registered in music classes at CSN.

3.

Permission to use the MRL is granted via individual instructors.

4. Access to the MRL is obtained from the music office (Room H 121) where a Sign In / Sign Out form will be available. Failure to comply with the posted Sign in / Sign Out procedures will result in loss of lab privileges. 5. If a person is found responsible for damages to the MRL equipment or media, that person will be charged through the bursar’s office for damages. Grades, transcripts, diplomas, and other student records will not be released until the charges for the damages have been paid. 6. There is no food or drink allowed in the MRL at ANY time. Failure to comply with this policy will result in the loss of lab privileges.

Additional Information for All Music Students - Please Read!

IMPORTANT: Students may elect to graduate using the degree requirements in effect at the time of matriculation or completion. If a program is official after a student has matriculated, the student may choose the degree requirements of the new program. In no case may a student use a catalog that is more than six years old at the time of graduation.

Concert, Recital Attendance Requirement: All CSN students pursuing an AA with a Music Emphasis must successfully complete four semesters of Concert Attendance (MUS 100). This course costs nothing, nor does the student receive credit for the course. As is the case in many colleges and universities, the purpose of concert and recital attendance is to provide an opportunity for students and faculty to perform for their peers, and for all students to regularly have the experience of being part of live performance situations. This experience is crucial to good music education.

Piano Proficiency Exam: All CSN students pursuing a music degree (AA) must successfully complete a piano proficiency examination. See page 12 for details.

Juries: Juries essentially serve as a final examination for music major private instruction courses. All students registered for music major private instruction courses are required to perform in front of a Jury of Music Department Faculty. Students are required to demonstrate proficiency in performance requirements for their respective level of instruction. Any student that does not show proficiency in all of the required areas for their respective level of instruction will be required to repeat that level of instruction before advancement. Juries will be held during finals week of each semester.
