Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47

Dear Church Family, It seems as if only yesterday we were celebrating the beginning of a new year. Now as the months has passed we quickly find ourselves in the heart of the year, looking forward with great anticipation to the coming summer. May is always a great (if not also extremely busy) time for the life of the church. This month in worship we will recognize our graduating seniors, honor the women in our lives who pour out God’s love for us, and celebrate the birth of the church through Pentecost. What a wonderful time in the life of our church! The Pentecost season for the church is one that can certainly go overlooked. During this time we remember the dawning of the Christian church as depicted in the book of Acts. At the end of chapter two we read about this continual growth of people who came seeking the good news that Jesus had given to his disciples. I feel like we are in the same time in our own journey here at Forest Hills. God is bringing new people into our community, and the spirit continues to spread in new and exciting ways. My prayer for you all this month is to be open to the new and exciting places that God is calling you. At times it can feel overwhelming, and yes even a little chaotic, but in the midst of it all I pray that the spirit of God’s amazing grace flow over each of you. Blessings, Reuben

She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with our Rummage Sale fundraiser last month. We were able to raise over $2,000 thanks to all of your hard work. The funds raised will go towards continuing to fix up the CWNC so that we can have a great space dedicated to the children and youth of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.

DID YOU NOTICE? Conor McCary has been hard at work on his Eagle Scout project to renovate the shed behind the Maples House. The shed has been receiving some much needed TLC and is looking great. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help Conor with this project, or learn more about the activities of any of our youth, feel free to reach out to Christina Moore to learn more.

Spiritual Growth at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church Faith Builders with Doug Stewart (FLC Conference Room) On April 8th our Faith Builders class will begin to discuss characters from the New Testament. This 10 week series will give us the opportunity to explore who these major characters were and what part they played in shaping the gospels. Wired Word with Pastor Reuben (CWNC) Our second adult class meets in the CWNC at 9:00am. This class takes thought provoking articles from current events to explore how we can approach news faithfully with scripture and hope. The aim of this class will be to help us discuss issues with which there may be some disagreement, within the spirit of humility and unity which comes from Christ.

APRIL SESSION NOTES At Forest Hills our church structure is ordered through the work of committees which are chaired by members of the session. Our session is made up of representatives of the congregation who serve in 3 year terms as elders of the church. To better communicate the decisions made by session, we will be including session notes in the monthly newsletter to inform the congregation about major items discussed or decisions made. ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE The administrative committee will be evaluating bids from various insurance companies who are interested in providing Forest Hills with coverage.  Helotes Christian Preschool informed the church that they will be closing the school at the end of May. The Amigos Spanish language program is exploring picking up the use of their classroom space.

FHPC will be participating in the Cornyval Parade this year. Some of our younger families are working to build a float and hand out flyers about upcoming church events. Senior Recognition Sunday will be May 20th and Youth Sunday will be on June 3rd.

The spirit of Fiesta was certainly felt this year at our annual Fiesta Lunch and Samaritan Sunday Auction. The ladies of the fellowship committee helped to put together a great lunch with a wonderful spread of taco’s and tamales. The mission and outreach committee organized the Samaritan Sunday Silent Auction as well, which raised an additional $800 to add to our Samaritan Fund. The Samaritan Fund is used to help members of our church community in their time of financial hardship and need. Thank you to all of you who brought food, solicited donations, and bid on items; you all truly made this year’s event a great success!

Ladies Lunch May 30th The ladies of the church had a great get together at First Watch in April. The women of the church gather together for lunch on the last Wednesday of each month. Join us in May as we meet at 54th Street at Alamo Ranch. Please call the church office if you have any questions or are interested in attending.
