Entrance Scholarships Apply using the LCBI Entrance Scholarship Application Deadline: June 10

Joel Isaac Johnson Scholarship This scholarship is given in memory of Joel Isaac Johnson, a former student whose life ended tragically during his last year at LCBI. Joel was an independent and spontaneous individual who became a significant part of campus life through his contributions as a gifted athlete, scholar, musician and friend to all ages. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) who has been accepted to attend LCBI. Candidates for this scholarship will be well rounded individuals in good academic standing, leadership skills and have the potential to make positive contributions to school life at LCBI, through faithful Christ centred involvement in athletics, music and the social life of the LCBI community.

Dr. George O. Evenson Entrance Scholarship George O. Evenson was the president of LCBI from 1939 to 1951. This scholarship was established in his memory and is awarded to a first year student(s) who has been accepted to LCBI. Candidates for this scholarship will be well rounded individuals who have achieved excellence in academics, a contribution to the life of the church and a desire to contribute to school life at LCBI. This scholarship is available to students who are Lutheran.

General Scholarships Apply using the LCBI General Scholarship Application Deadline: June 10 Alumni Scholarship This award was established by the alumni of LCBI high school and is continually supported by the LCBI community. Scholarships are awarded annually to students based on academic achievement, personality, professional promise, declared dedication to the service of the Church, Christian character and leadership potential. Harvey and Carolie Haug Family Scholarship Harvey and Carolie Haug met at SLBI in 1945 where Harvey was living while attending Outlook High School and Carolie was attending high school. They met again at SLBI in 1950 in Bible school and were married the same year. Harvey and Carolie laid a strong Christian foundation for their family and have been active in the life of LCBI over the years. All of Harvey and Carolie's children attended LCBI as did eleven of their grandchildren. Harvey inspired his family by overcoming personal adversity during his lifetime. This scholarship will be awarded to a student accepted to LCBI who has overcome and obstacle in their life and shown perseverance. Don and Clara Hedlin Scholarship Donald and Clara Hedlin were married in 1962 and farmed for the next 15 years. Clara went to night school and became a secretary. She went to SLBI, as a secretary, and graduated in the Bible Department. She went on to be secretary at the seminary. She spent 5 years at the head office in Minnesota returning to Canada as director of ELW and youth work. Clara and Donald moved to Mission to help in the founding of a Bible school. The bursary was established to honour the beliefs Don and Clara about the positive change a Christian education can make in a person’s life. Clinton Pederson Memorial Scholarship Clinton Pederson was the second child of six and the only son in his family. His five sisters graduated from LCBI. Clinton farmed with his father and attended bible classes one winter. Clinton farmed in Torquay, SK on the family farm with his wife Muriel. He was a committed Christian for all his life. On several occasions, parents in the community would ask Clinton to provide jobs for their sons so that he could mentor them. This scholarship in memory of Clinton and is awarded based on Academic achievement, personality, professional promise, declared dedication to the service of the Church, Christian character and leadership potential.

Bursaries Apply using the LCBI Bursary Application Deadline: June 10 Effie Bedrich Memorial Bursary Fund Effie Bedrich, nee Wells, was born November 5, 1912 in Grays, Long Island, Bahama Islands and moved to Nassau early in her life. There she met Otto Bedrich of Broderick, Saskatchewan and was married in 1951. They moved to Canada shortly after and began farming south of Broderick. After retiring to Outlook, SK, Effie attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church and worked faithfully with Ladies Aid. Effie passed away in 1992. Through the establishment of this fun, it is hoped that those who desire to attend LCBI and may not have the financial means to do so will have the opportunity to discover all the wonders and miracles God has to offer. Beatrice Holmgren Memorial Bursary Beatrice Holmgren was born in Minnesota in 1904 and came to Saskatchewan in 1905. She married Allan Holmgren of Christiansted, Sweden and they had one daughter. Beatrice was a life long active member of St. John's Lutheran Congregation, teaching the Kindergarten and grade one class in Sunday school for many years. Much of her time and effort was devoted to the work of the ELW, especially the Lutheran World Relief Quilting projects. One of Beatrice's many concerns was the youth of the church and their on-going Christian education. After her death in 1988, a memorial bursary was established in her name. Jacob and Josephine Jacobson Memorial Bursary Fund Jacob and Josephine Jacobson were born in 1881 in the Bergen area of Norway. They were married at Outlook, Saskatchewan in 1918. They farmed at Glenside, Saskatchewan until 1933 when they rented out that farm and bought a second farm at Shell Lake, Saskatchewan. LCBI, then Outlook College, a few miles from Glenside, captured their interest. A few family members, their children and grandchildren, were privileged to attend this special school. The Jacob and Josephine Jacobson Memorial Fund was established by their daughter and granddaughter in gratitude for their Christian family heritage and the parents' significant contribution to LCBI in hopes it will assistin enabling worthy students to be more firmly established in love and service to Jesus. Rev. N.T.A. (Ted) Larson Bursary Ted Larson was married on May 29 1938 in Springfield Illinois. Reverend Larson and his wife Thelma were the parents of ten children. Reverend Larson served with Lutheran Church of American in Kenora, Ontario; Peoria, Illinois; Chicago, Illinois and St Timothy's Lutheran Church in Regina, SK. The Larson's were dedicated to the christian education of their children, and had a home and life centred around the church and the word of God. This bursary was established to support those who have desire to study and grow in God's word.

Marie Nostbakken Bursary Marie Nostbakken lived a life of service to her family, friends, and church. She was a positive example and inspiration to her twelves nieces and nephews, all of whom graduated from LCBI or SLBI, as well as several of their children. Over the years Marie supported LCBI with her prayers and contributions. This bursary was established that Marie's positive influence on young lives may continue. Svee Memorial Bursary Haftor Svee immigrated to Canada from Norway in 1924. He came to the Frontier district in Saskatchewan in 1925 and began a successful career in farming. He met and married Sylvia Olson and together they had four children. LCBI occupied a special place in Haftor's heart. His three daughters attended there for school. This bursary was established in his memory that many more families would be able to share the blessings of this school. Tastad Memorial Bursary

Gustav and Hannah Tastad were pioneers in the Loreburn Saskatchewan area. They demonstrated through their lives their interest in encouraging, teaching, and supporting young people through Christian education. Many of their children and grandchildren attended LCBI. This fund will honour the memory of Gustav and Hannah by helping more young people live and grow in a Christian community.

Torgunrud Bursary Fund Edwin and Anna Torgunrud typify many parents who have seen the value of Christian education at LCBI for their family. Raising a family of nine children on modest means, they made personal sacrifices to send their children to LCBI. By 1987, twenty-four of their children and grandchildren had attended the school. By establishing this fund, the family wishes to honour their parents whose sacrifices brought countless blessings to all through LCBI. Alfred and Gertrude Knutson Memorial Alfred and Gertie Knutson raised their family of six in the Spalding, SK area on the family farm. Education, specifically Christian education, was very important to this couple. Five of their six children and twelve of their fifteen grandchildren are alumni of LCBI. Now the next generation have started attending. It is the wish of the family that others have the opportunity to attend LCBI, a place where not only their physical and academic selves are nurtured but their spiritual selves as well.

Olena Brenna Hetland Memorial Bursary The Hetland Bursary was established in the Naicam parish in the 1960s by Joseph I. Hetland in honour of his wife Olena Hetland. This bursary is given to a student of LCBI, with priority given to members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Naicam, whom exhibits the greatest financial need. Priority given to students from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Naicam, SK Morton Bursary This bursary fund is donated through the estate of Meredith W. Morton. Everett Thykeson Trust Fund This bursary was established in honour of Mr. Everett Thykeson. The bursary is awarded to an LCBI student that exhibits financial need. Lake Park Bursary Fund This bursary was established through the sale of the parsonage of the discontinued Weldon Lutheran Church Parish. Weldon is a farming community southeast of Prince Albert. In the early 1900s the area was settled largely by Norwegians, many of them Lutheran, and the Weldon parish included the church in the small town as well as several in outlying areas. The bursary was established to financially assist students of LCBI with preference given to students from the Lake Park and Weldon area. Preference given to students from the Lake Park (Birch Hills) area. Friggstad Bursary This fund was established in 2007 by Connie and Obert Friggstad in memory of three related babies that never had a chance to live, grow, and attend LCBI as their siblings and other family members have over the past three generations.
