Dear Friends, The Elk Rapids Schools continue to lead the way in educational excellence as one of the top schools in Northern Michigan and the Regional School of Choice for our area. Once again, our district consistently earned higher state standardized achievement test scores compared with the state and region. What allows such success to be achieved? Great teachers, outstanding students, caring, committed families, a supportive community and a Board of Education that puts children first in all they do. It is what the Elk Rapids Schools are all about. We are excited about the 2016-2017 school year and the many activities and learning experiences our students and staff will engage in! We continue to provide the best in Early Childhood learning at both Lakeland and Mill Creek Elementary and also offer before and after school childcare for our families. Our robust K-12 curriculum will continue to be offered and we are proud to have foreign language opportunities at all buildings. We are proud to be the only International Baccalaureate World Schools in Northern Michigan as Cherryland Middle School, Lakeland Elementary and Mill Creek Elementary have earned that distinction. Elk Rapids High School was ranked #1 in the region in terms of standardized test achievement. We have expanded our high school Honors Academy, Advanced Placement and online courses and we continue to offer many opportunities for students in extra-curricular activities. Sunrise Academy offers another path to success for students with its diverse and alternative education program for students in grades 9-12. Elk Rapids Schools will continue to succeed and “invest in our future”. On May 3rd of 2016 our school district residents showed their dedication to education by supporting a renewal millage for school improvements. THANK YOU VOTERS! These improvements include purchasing of buses, roof repair, maintenance of our facilities and much needed technology. Twenty-first century students are utilizing new technologies to learn, communicate, collaborate and create. School systems need to be adaptive and agile to reach the modern day learner. Included in our plan to better reach our students is to effectively use technology. The Elk Rapids School District is committed to oneto-one computing devices for our K-12 students that allows each of our students to have access to this innovative technology. Our mission is to energize, fuel and engage our twenty-first century learners. If you are already a member of our school family, thank you for your loyalty and support.
