Electrical components for the railway industry

Large temperature fluctuations, condensation, shock, vibration, electromagnetic interference, and more: Electrical components for the railway industry must provide safe and reliable operation even under extreme application conditions – at all times. This is why nothing is left to chance – starting with the development of these components, with extensive technology and sector know-how going hand in hand with maximized quality standards. This approach is characteristic of Siemens. We have been a reliable and experienced partner in the railway industry for decades. Our comprehensive experience in the fields of rolling stock and infrastructure is directly incorporated in the development of our electrical components – as is the knowledge we have gained from close cooperation with international standards committees. This means that you can rely on our components’ guaranteed compliance with railway-specific requirements and standards.

2

Tested and certified in accordance with current standards and directives Siemens is a founding member of the IRIS Initiative. Our rail components meet all the relevant requirements of EN 50155 and IEC 60571. Comprehensive documentation and verification is already available for the new European fire protection standard EN 45545.

Electrical components for the railway industry | Overview

We offer a broad portfolio of reliable and high-quality electrical components for the railway industry – for both rolling stock and infrastructure applications. For example, the products from our SIRIUS and SENTRON ranges are employed in countless railway vehicles around the world. They control, switch, and protect air-conditioning systems, windscreen heaters, underfloor containers, hygiene cubicles, and many other components. Our SIPLUS extreme product range also includes refined controls for extreme application conditions. Sitet, our trendsetting driver’s cab terminal, was specifically developed for use in train cockpits, with their corresponding extreme requirements. Our well-proven vacuum interruptors fulfil in particular in the railway industry all requirements on medium-voltage components. They are installed, for example, in circuit breakers on the rooftop of the rolling stock in order to provide electrical power to the electrical drives. Furthermore, they are utilized in load break switches, contactors and railway breakers.

In the field of infrastructure, our components ensure the fault-free operation of barriers, signals, sets of points, and platform doors. Furthermore, SIPLUS RIC facilitates communication via internationally standardized transfer protocols for telecontrol. Selected network components from the SCALANCE and RUGGEDCOM product lines ensure reliable wired and wireless communication – on the train as well as trackside. These components are specifically designed to operate reliably in harsh and critical environments.
