MORE NEWS Celebrate Michael Lasser’s Anniversary

PBS KIDS NEW WEB-0NLY SERIES

May 15, 2011 - 2-4 p.m. at the Harley School

Chuck Vanderchuck’s “Something Something” Explosion is an immersive, interactive online experience with the goal of helping kids understand music, ear training, and music composition. Kids can view animated videos highlighting different musical genres. The kids can also play a series of mini games that prepare them for “the big gig,” which allows the kids to showcase what they’ve learned along the way. This musical game experience was created for 6 to 9 year-olds. Visit http://pbskids.org/chuck

Celebrate the radio show's 30th anniversary with host Michael Lasser and singers Cindy Miller and Alan Jones as they present iconic American songs. Since it first went on the air as Anything Goes in November 1980, Michael Lasser’s Fascinatin’ Rhythm has played nearly twenty-five thousand songs, from the most famous and beloved to the most quickly (and deservedly) forgotten. To celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary, Lasser has chosen a dozen titles – what he calls the “iconic American songs.” They’re songs nearly everyone knows or at least recognizes, as “Night and Day,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Star Dust,” and “Love Is Here To Stay” just to name a few. “They’ve become part of our national DNA,” he says, “They’re some of the songs we find ourselves humming because we couldn’t forget them if we tried.”

Noah Comprende is designed to teach Spanish to children ages 6-8 through animated videos with embedded games that help build vocabulary. In each 3 minute video, a misunderstanding launches a comic misadventure. Kids learn language better when they can put it into meaningful context. Although – like Noah – they may not understand all the Spanish dialogue, kids can comprehend the story told through rich visual storytelling, much like a silent movie. Each video features opportunities for kids to roll their cursor over objects on the screen to hear the Spanish translation. Three different vocabulary-driven, arcade-style games reinforce learning. Leveling and racing against the clock encourage replayability and repeated exposure to vocabulary. Another game on the website, How Do You Say…?, helps kids learn common expressions in Spanish. Visit http://pbskids.org/noah

Join WXXI’s Michael Lasser and two wonderful singers Cindy Miller and Alan Jones for a Musical Tribute to Fascinatin’ Rhythm Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Harley School, 1981 Clover Street, Rochester, NY 14618. Tickets are for this concert are $25.00 and available by calling 585-258-0200 The program originates from WXXI-Classical 91.5. and is nationally syndicated. Fascinatin' Rhythm airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1.
