SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2016 PENTECOST SUNDAY

On this feast of Pentecost, when the Apostles and the other disciples were filled with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and fearlessly proclaimed the Good News of Jesus, we celebrate the birth of the Church. So let us today open our hearts to receive the outpouring of this same Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, by offering the traditional prayer to the Holy Spirit: “Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. Enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray: O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit did instruct the hearts of your faithful, grant that by that same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.” God bless, Fr. Herb

TITHING May 1-7, 2016 Same Week Last Year:

$16,526.00 $17,590.00

From the Pastor: Pray to the Holy Spirit for courage to continue giving Our Heavenly Father the first fruits of our income each week. Our Gift to God is more a sacrifice when we need real courage to persevere. And please count on God’s goodness, His providence to us, His humble good servants, especially in more difficult times. Words of Tithing from the Pews: Without making this about my faith in God, tithing would be just another request for church support. When I prayed about this it became clear that tithing would have to be an important part of my life, my way of thanking God for His goodness. Thank you for your sacrifice of Tithing! MASS ATTENDANCE Mass attendance for April 30/May 1: 1862 SPRING PRAYER Dear God, Spring is a metaphor for change. Some changes we eagerly await, and some we abhor. Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited. To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope, and rebirth. May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth. As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too. Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring. Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus' name.

ALL SAINTS ACADEMY CORNER “ASA Angels” at All Saints Academy Did you know that there are “angels” at All Saints Academy? Our ASA Angel Fund provides scholarships as well as assistance for families in need due to temporary financial setbacks. Our program seeks financial support from the school community, as well as the community at large, to help with the current and future needs of school families. At times, a family may need to leave our school because of an unexpected, economic concern. Through generous donations, students may continue their Catholic education at All Saints Academy. Our hope is that those who cannot pay now will “pay it forward” when they have the opportunity. Donations for full or partial scholarships are now being accepted. Please contact our school office to schedule an appointment to visit us and tour our school. All Saints Academy is a nationally recognized STEM school of the Diocese of Paterson. Our school offers a comprehensive, multi-curricular, rigorous academic program, centered on values-based education. A strong and loving Catholic identity permeates the environment. A spirit of faith, respect and joy are evident in our school. In addition to religious instruction, students model Christian ideals through cooperative activities, spiritual and liturgical celebrations, participation in Sacraments, and service outreach. An active parent organization lends partnership and support to the school community. The Early Childhood Center offers classes for three and four year old children. The elementary and middle school classes include kindergarten through grade eight. Contact our school principal, Mrs. Judy Berg, at 973-334-4704, to schedule a tour and classroom visit.

THE DIOCESE OF PATERSON’S VIVERE CHRISTUS AWARD 2016

Deacon Lou and Mrs. Carol Chiocco For more than 30 years, Deacon Lou and his wife, Carol, have spear headed our parish’s ministry of preparing couples for Marriage in the Pre Cana Program. For the last few years our Catholic Church, under the leadership of Pope Francis, has reflected deeply on the family in today’s Church and today’s world. The Pope and those who participated in the world wide consultation, focused strongly on the importance and necessity of preparing couples well for Christian Marriage in the Sacrament of Matrimony, So it is especially timely this year to nominate Deacon Lou & Carol for Bishop Serratelli to award them the Vivere Christus Medal as our parish’s 2016 representatives. The Parish chooses to nominate them to receive this honor from the Bishop, especially in view of their good work with engaged couples. By honoring Carol and Deacon Lou, our parish is also gratefully acknowledging the Pre-Cana Team couples who have worked with them over many years in this important Pre Cana Ministry to couples getting married in the Catholic Church. In their own family, Deacon Lou and Carol are proud parents of 5 adult children and they are blessed with many wonderful grandchildren. Carol and Deacon Lou are very loving parents and grandparents. Deacon Lou and Carol are regular daily Mass goers here. As a permanent Deacon, Deacon Lou is a parish staff member and he participates in the parish’s Liturgical Ministries, blessing us with his excellent homilies every month. Deacon Lou and Carol will receive their Vivere Christus Award today, May 15th, from Bishop Serratelli at Saint Philip’s Church in Clifton at 4:00 PM. All are invited to attend. Congratulations Carol and Deacon Lou Chiocco! We thank God for both of you and all the good you do for so many people.
