Saturday, April 18th, 2015, we will celebrate EcoFest/Earthday Tampa Bay at Lowry Park. It is quite an awesome event and I am inviting you to come out and enjoy a beautiful day at a beautiful location. It runs from 10:00 – 3:00. Various City representatives will be distributing information on the green and sustainable policies and initiatives our City promotes and participates in every day. It’s a very informative and entertaining event you do not want to miss. My English Mastiffs, Rhino and Sumo will be there as well. CONTENTS:

EcoFest 2015 is a community event organized by Learning Gate Community School, the City of Tampa and the USF Patel College of Global Sustainability to celebrate the many businesses, organizations, and individuals in the Tampa Bay area dedicated to the principles of sustainability - Ecology, Equity and Economy. There will be live music, workshops, demonstrations, informational booths, green living products and services. Some local artists, green businesses, environmental organizations, alternative health practitioners, renewable energy specialists, organic farms and gardens with produce will be in attendance. Last year's EcoFest drew more than 4,500 participants and was voted by the U.S. Green Building Council's Center for Green Schools as the "Best Community Event"! The Mayor of Tampa attended the event and proclaimed the day of the event Earth Day Tampa Bay.

Message from the Manager: Upcoming City Council Workshops/Public Hearings/Meetings that you may wish to attend and offer your comments: April 23, 2015 9:00 a.m. Workshop • Legal and Catherine Coyle, Planning & Development: To discuss the economic, environmental, traffic and all other impacts of big box stores; further, that Council discuses regulations and policy that the City would adopt pursuant to large-scale developments greater than 50,000 square feet. • Catherine Coyle, Planning & Development: To provide a follow-up report regarding the request to draft language that deals with requiring a big box store to do the following: a) a traffic analysis that goes beyond just the street, the store fronts, and the surrounding streets; b) the impacts the store will have on the area’s traffic; and c) to develop clear language specific to large developments greater than 50,000; further, that such language to be transmitted to the Planning Commission. • Catherine Coyle, Planning & Urban Design Division: To provide language to the City of Tampa Code Chapters 27 and 6 regarding alternate design exceptions and parking.
