Radiology plays a key part in modern healthcare, and being a radiology nurse is a rich and varied experience that includes working with advanced technology and having close contact with the patients. The job requires great flexibility and cooperative skills. Radiology clinics today work with both the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, activities in which radiology nurses play a key part. The ever-increasing complexity of radiological methods can be alienating for patients of any age. It is therefore important that radiology nurses can reassure such patients with welldeveloped communicative skills that can help to build up a secure relationship between them. Radiology nurses also take the decisions that lead to the most effective form of examination. The study programme in Radiography provides students with a knowledge of radiography, which is to say the use of X-ray methods to examine patients, and the interpretation of the results thus obtained. Students learn a great deal about radiation and how the equipment they use is designed. They also learn about different diseases and how they show up in X-rays. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, laboratory work, and clinical training. Students also gain an early insight into their future career as the on-site training starts in term one and continues for a five-week block each term. Students also gain experience of the work of radiology nurses at a healthcare unit and within the accident and emergency services. After graduation Radiology nurses work at radiology clinics in both the public and private sectors.
