Students who have already completed 2 or 3 years of a Bachelor study in international business may apply for a semester or two semesters exchange programme if there is an exchange agreement between HZ and their institute. Students take the subjects as part of a one-semester course. The courses are conducted in English enabling students to develop their foreign language skills more easily. As a general rule, courses consist of a mixture of lectures, tutorials and practical course work, where students put theory into practice. The semester is concluded with written and oral examinations. A 30 credits programme is a normal study load in a semester. The (Socrates) coordinator of you home institution needs to approve your course selection before you enrol. Exchange and Socrates students are not eligible for the HZ degree.

People have many reasons for heading off to new and exciting export markets. Often the first steps you take across the border come about by accident- from an incidental order rather than by any conscious plan. Although planning ahead is essential. This supposes knowledge and insight in International economic relations. The rapid growth in international trade and investments, the rapid growth in a number of developing countries have given rise to uneasy feelings in the advanced economies. The government, trade unions and employees fear loss of employment because of increasing international competition. The fear of job loss has on occasion led to pleas for protectionism. On the other hand the international take-over- and merger activity is very important for most economies. To estimate the exchange rate risks involved understanding the exchange markets is essential: what risks are involved and how can they be managed/ hedged? To get an insight in the companies strength and weaknesses, you will

Because of globalisation management becomes full of international oriented activities. All over the world companies merge or develop initiatives far away from their home country and head quarters. As a result managers from different cultural background and nationalities form teams and meet each other at the conference table. In international business and all kinds of negotiations one has to understand mutual patterns of behaviour, minorities in each country, political and religious customs and the use of language. A student has to understand cultural differences and how to deal with them, using Mead, "International Management". In this course you will work in teams on a simulation programme. VUMAS is a management game supported by an interactive computer programme that has to stimulate the integration between courses in the fields of economics, quantitative methods, management and organizations.

Project Management 210 hours 7,5 EC

Contents:

In the world today there is an ever-increasing need to be competitive. Markets are expanding to global levels. Technological innovation has risen to a stunningly fast change rate. Rules and regulations are changing fast and are getting more complex and cover even more areas of organizational life. As a result of this, management sometimes feels one has to be an artist to combine manpower and expertise exactly when and where it's needed. That's very difficult, but we can learn how to use organizational concepts and tools that will help us realize our goals and in the meantime exercise optimal control over the achievement of quality and the use of resources. Project management consists of careful planning, decision-making, information exchange, monitoring project results. It has to do with being very clear on results and responsibilities, combining the efforts of people that aren't used to working together in a team, and crystal clear communication between all persons. The course is based on the book of Harvey Maylor theory and a real development project from the experience of the lecturer. Students will follow theory colleges in class and form groups of 4 mixed nationality students to work on the presentation of one of the project stages, with the development project as case description. The aim is twofold: 1. students have perfect understanding of theory, background and available tools to be a real Project Manager, 2. students have training in brainstorming and preparing of presentations, performed in the group.
