CURRICULUM VITAE Name: Javier Arias Navarro Birthdate: 10th October Birthplace: Oviedo (Spain) Nationality: Spanish Civil Status: Single Email: [email protected] Positions held: Junior Professor in Romance Languages and Linguistics at the University of Lisbon, with both teaching and project research duties. Seminars on the Spanish and Portuguese language. Each seminar is given in the relevant language. Previous position: “Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter” in the E3 Project of the Center for Multilingualism, University of Hamburg, which dealt with prosodic acquisition by bilingual German-Spanish children. The project was directed by Professor Conxita Lleó. Apart from my work in the research project, I was assistant professor at the Spanish Department in the Institute for Romance Languages at the University, where I taught some 17 seminars (both introductory and advanced) on many topics of Spanish and Portuguese. The introductory courses were taught in German; the advanced in Spanish and / or Portuguese. I am therefore familiar with the German nomenclature in the field. In Hamburg I also conducted regular tasks as interpreter (Dolmetscher) for primary schools and some private firms, translating from Spanish and / or Portuguese into German, mostly. In 2012 I was short-listed for the position as Professor in Ibero-Romance Languages at the University of Zurich, where I gave two talks (on 17th September of that year) as part of the selection procedure.

Academic record: Graduation in Hispanic Philology (domain of Spanish Language and Linguistics) in June 1995, University of Oviedo. Graduate student in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (USA), during the academic year 1995-1996. Teaching Assistant at the Spanish Department of the University of Massachusetts, during the same period. I developed both activies thanks to a fellowship I got due to my excellent grades. Fellowship at the Universidad Española de Educación a Distancia (UNED), from January, 1997 to November, 2002. Graduate student with fellowship all along that span of time. Visiting Graduate Student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst: November-December 1997. Visiting Graduate Student and Lecturer at the Holland Institute of Generative Linguistics (HIL) in Leiden: September-December 1998. Dissertation defence: 27 th April, 2001. Summa cum laude. Title of the work: Materiales para una consideración paramétrica y tipológica de las métricas del mundo. President of the thesis committee: Professor James Harris, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Honored with the so-called “Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado”. (A special award to outstanding dissertations in Spain)
