Training – Aeronautical research financing in FP7, Warsaw, Poland This training was done for over 50 employees of Institute of Aviation. During the course, the thematic of possibilities of financing aeronautical research at national and European level was presented and discussed to participants. In the second half of 2008, when it became clear that the General Aviation sector might become of high importance for European Parliament and European Commission, IPPT PAN began to be involved in stimulating national actors to take active part in this initiative. Given the fact, that Poland has a lot of potential in this sector (this includes a number of small airplane producers), the reaction was quick and since October 2008, three meetings (28.10; 13.11 and 19.12) of so called “initiative group” were organized. Its goal was to create a strategy on how to enter the General Aviation FP7 “market”, should specific topics to this subject would be open in coming calls. Preliminary meetings lead to organization of a national General Aviation workshop (16.02.2009), gathering representatives of universities, R&D units, large and small companies and clusters, national aviation regulators. One of the goals of this meetings (besides ie. presenting national GA landscape potential), was to discuss, in bigger auditorium, the necessity and level of involvement of Polish partners in the GA initiative started by European Parliament with its GA resolution. Presentations and materials from this meeting are available at Don Q Air website. In the course of following months, the idea for European General Aviation workshop was born. After a meeting with EGAMA members and presenting the workshop idea on ACARE MSG meeting, it was decided to organize such workshop in Warsaw, at the beginning of June 2009, right before the 3rd Aeronautics Call launch. 7-8 July 2009, General Aviation and European Transport System – Third Call FP7 Workshop, Warsaw, Poland This workshop was co-organized by IPPT PAN and Institute of Aviation. 110 people from 15 European Countries attended this very important for General Aviation community event. Among others the following organizations attended the workshop: DG RTD, EqIMG, TU Delft, BAE Systems, EASN, EASA, EGAMA, VZLU, Onera, Piaggio, PZL Mielec, Evektor, Honeywell, ISDEFE, Institute of Aviation, INCAS, Wrocław University of Technology, WSK Rzeszów, General Electric Poland. During the workshop all European stakeholders had an opportunity:

1. to discuss research priorities from General Aviation – Air Transport System (GA_ATS) and General Aviation perspective, which could also provide a feedback for the future Work Programme documents of FP7 2. to present project ideas for the 3rd Call in Aeronautics in order to elaborate proposals of CSA-SA and L1 type which would incorporate both ideas and potential beneficiaries from all countries interested in GA related research. During the panel discussions, participants had a chance to present their ideas of 3rd call proposals regarding GA. The workshop created the opportunity to select the most interesting one; therefore potentially increasing "success rate" during future evaluation. Participation in the selected, most promising proposals has also been debated. The whole process was possible thanks to the participants who have sent a short description of the proposal's idea using attached form for workshop panel discussion. 3. to contribute to a general overview of current situation of GA and overview of research related to GA (SESAR, collaborative research projects such as EPATS, CESAR, SOFIA, PPlane, etc.) 4. to discuss potential future developments based on e.g. feedback from EASA and European Civil Aviation Conference (the study requested by the EC). 5. to discuss other important subjects Whole event was divided into: General sessions; where issues related to GA Air Transport System, EU collaborative research and work planning with regards to 3rd Call vs. GA were presented and discussed Thematic sessions: Alfa - General Aviation & Air Transport System / GA Research needs Bravo - Environmentally friendly GA Charlie – Research to revitalization European GA Delta - New Air Traffic Management and GA. During the thematic sessions, participants had the opportunity to present their ideas for projects related to General Aviation sector. After long and extensive debate in four subgroups outcomes of the meeting were: 32 proposal ideas presented, and discussed 7 pre-proposals – suggested to take part in submission 3rd Call It was agreed, that the work on 7 pre-proposals that were given “green light” to preparation and submission in 3rd Call would continue during comings months. It was
