our regulatory information sheets (RIS). Regulations are, however, often subject to change. Therefore we recommend to contact our regulatory experts in case of any doubt. The technology Joncryl® RC emulsions are produced with a stabilization system based on special carboxy-functional styrene-acrylic resins. The resins result in a dual stabilization: through electrostatic repulsion, like conventional surfactants, and at the same time through sterical hindrance.

Conventional latexes are produced with large quantities of surfactant to stabilize hydrophobic monomers in water. The large polymer particles are instable as soon as the traditional surfactant system is interrupted through shear or through surfactant exchange with co-binders, additives or pigments. Joncryl® RC emulsions have a particle size of 50 - 100 nm compared with 150 - 300 nm for traditional latexes. The small particle size offers an advantage in fiber wetting, film formation and flexibility. Due to excellent film-forming capabilities, a better balance between barrier properties and blocking resistance is possible. More performance with less environmental impact? At BASF, we create chemistry.
