Dear Parents and Caregivers, Nau mai haere mai. Talofa lava. Malo le lei. Kamusta.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, We had a special week this week with Feast Day celebrations Friday and on Thursday the visit from the Loboc Children’s Choir direct from the Phillipines. This young choir are performing in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and visited Catholic Cathedral College as we have the largest number of young Filipino students in Christchurch. It was wonderful to hear this talented choir perform to us on a wintry afternoon. Their spirit and enthusiasm had a clear impact on our students and inspired us as we head into our Feast Day singing competition. Our annual Feast Day is an important opportunity to focus on our founders - the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM) and the Marist Brothers. The College today is the product of many years of devoted and faithful service from young men and women who devoted their lives to serving God as teachers on this site. Both religious orders, the Sisters and the Brothers were inspired by Mary and her devotion, courage, and generosity. That is why Mary is so important to us as well. The orders are also focussed on the call of the Gospel, to spread the good news of Jesus’ message of love. Our focus on service this year is based on the strong model of service we have had from both the Sisters and the Brothers. When we celebrate Mass on Feast Day we pray for all those who have worked on this site and for their service to this community as they have developed and strengthened the faith of generations of Catholics. After starting the day with Mass we have a series of visiting speakers who will focus on the theme of Mission and Service. This is in line with our theme for this year: “Christ has no hands on earth but mine”. Following this part of the day the students will enjoy a shared lunch before competing in the inter-House singing competition. There are only two weeks left until the end of Term, which takes us to the mid-point in the year. It is important for all students to reflect on their goals for this year, their learning targets and certainly following the academic conferences and report evenings, I would expect that our learners will be focussed on new goals for the start of Term 3. Just as winter is a time for clearing up in the garden, pruning back the dead wood and preparing for new spring growth, let us all use this time to prepare for a successful Term 3. Early next week every student will be given a copy of the College ICT Acceptable Use Agreement. It is important that parents read through this with your son or daughter and ensure that each step of the agreement is understood. This will ensure that all users of the ICT Network will be sensible and will not use the technology in a way that could be hurtful or harmful. There is a space on the return

sheet for both the student and the parent to sign. We aim to have the signed return sheets back before the end of Term 2. Your support in this process is appreciated. Early in Term 3 we have our College Formal for Year 12 and 13 students. This is an evening that students look forward to with anticipation. As it is a privilege to attend such an event, students are aware of the expectations that they must meet their 92% attendance target for this year. May God bless you all, Tony Shaw

Loving and compassionate God, God of infinite goodness and mercy, Your blessed name be glorified. Yours is the glory, you are the ruler of all the land and everything on it; you are the ruler of the world and all its inhabitants. God of all of us, teach us to live the way you have always wanted. You are our God and Saviour and our trust is always in you. We thank you for the blessings that you give us every day. We thank you for providing food to those in need. We thank you for blessing us with the desire for your justice for those who are poor. We thank you for blessing us with the voice to speak for the voiceless. We thank you for allowing us to be your hands and feet in the world, for the blessing of being part of the great family that is your Church. Hear our prayer and help us remember always your call to justice and compassion. Our God, you will conquer all injustice; with your help we will be victorious. Amen

Mr Fields – Deputy Principal, Pastoral Care Uniform Thanks to parents for supporting the uniform requests. Some students are still wearing Hoodies to school and incorrect socks. Your child can expect appropriate sanctions as a result if they continue to do so. I have made the offer of support for uniform items if you face financial issues, let me know. Bus Stop Tour On Friday June 26 we have the bus stop tour coming to CCC. This is an informative day where students will be educated around bullying and will culminate in an assembly. Tip: Please keep a close eye on internet use at home! God Bless Mr Fields-DP pastoral

This concert will contribute to their overall portfolio. 2. Well done to 'CCC's Greatest Hits' (Joshua Derwahl, Rhoda Duites, Oceane Herry and Gabriel Dela Cruz) and 'CCC Junior String' (Dani Marquet, Emily Horn, Sam Hanada, Robert Cresswell, Henry Holden-Bluck, Jacinta Muir and Jane Barlin) who competed in the National Chamber Group Competition at Middle Grange on Thursday 11th June. Zero fees for under-13s From 1 July 1 2015, all children under 13 are eligible for free general practice visits, both during the day and after-hours. Under-13s are also exempt from the standard $5 pharmacy charge for each prescription item from 1 July 2015. The Government announced in Budget 2014 that it would implement the scheme, extending the ‘zero fees’ scheme already in place for children aged under six. General practices can choose whether or not to provide ‘zero fees’ to under-13s. The vast majority of practices already provide ‘zero fees’ visits to children under six and the same is expected for the under-13s scheme. If your regular practice doesn’t offer zero-fee care to under-13s, you can choose to enrol with another practice that does. Fees for extended consultations, procedures and extra services, such as certificates or equipment, will continue to be charged in the usual way. Where to go for Advice Talk to your general practice or pharmacist for more information or visit www.health.govt.nz. You can also get advice from a trained nurse by calling Healthline on 0800 611 116 or Plunketline on 0800 933 922.

Have confidence in God, be humble, love prayer and be very kind.
