1. Arran Ross – Cosmonaut Arran Ross is a lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art. perseverance I have now exhibited six times throughout Scotland. All of my pieces have been born through a love for the mountains and my understanding of it through my BSc in Env. Technology. My early work was straight photography, now with the evolution of technology; my laptop is my muse. I ensure the original shot is natural and use several mixed media to finalise my piece.’

4. Donna Marianne Ford – North Indian Girl Donna Marianne Ford has been working as an artist for 15 years. Her last exhibition was in the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick in 2002 where she exhibited a body of work on the North Berwick fishermen. ‘Since 2002 and my last exhibition, I have been dealing with many pertinent issues about my past, this resulted in me writing a book and securing a publication deal, my book The Step Child was published in May 2006. Since then I have been endeavouring to return to my art.’

5. Dominic Ibbotson – Street Dog This image was taken in the streets of Mumbai and is part of a series commissioned by Taj Hotels, India. 6. Hazel Dodds – Beds! Beds! Beds! Hazel Dodds is currently on a four-year course working towards a BA in Photography, Film and Imaging at Napier University. Her ambition is to concentrate on fine art photography.

7. Stephen Koren – Red Stephen Koren is a recently-established freelance illustrator living and working in Edinburgh whose work is bright, dynamic, eye-catching and most of all fun. Originally trained as an animator, he now concentrates on producing digital artwork for magazines and print. He is currently planning several exhibitions for 2007.

8. Michael Wildman – Delicate Serene Michael Wildman was a caterer for 20 years before embarking on a career in sales. After being made redundant four years ago he decided to use his experience as a life model, and the sense of personal freedom it gave him, to offer individuals the opportunity to freely express and record their own journeys by means of his art. He has to date exhibited his work at Loud and Clear, Harvey Nichols, Private Show, Rouge, DGP Media, Sofi’s, Leith Festival and GallerA1. Michael describes Delicate Serene as ‘an early exploration into light and dark from a body of work called Out of Shadows’.

9. Paul W Goldberg – Shipwreck on Loch Diabaig Paul W Goldberg is a self-taught photographer whose interest in the arts began in his teens. He has since developed into one of Scotland’s most talented young artists. Living in Edinburgh has given Paul the opportunity to combine his two great passions, photography and Scotland. Spending a great deal of his 20s travelling throughout Scotland, his work reflects these times and portrays modern Scotland at its very best. His contemporary and creative approach to photography, combined

with the tradition of the subject, makes for unique results and allows Paul to share his Scotland, his way. 10. Hannah Bloomfield – Storm Trooper Hannah Bloomfield graduated from Edinburgh College of Art 2 years ago before travelling to New York to do a screen-printing course. She is currently developing work in connection with a research trip to India, which was funded from an exhibition held in Sofi’s Bar a year ago. Hannah’s narrative for this piece describes something we all need – ‘a well-protected bedroom’!

11. Ian Murphy – Westray Sunset Ian Murphy is a self-taught photographer who specialises in images of the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, as well as a wider range of travel images from other destinations (including in particular Japan). Ian’s photographs have been used for both commercial marketing materials and to enhance offices and boardrooms. His first public exhibition was at Sofi’s Bar in 2006. This image was captured in Westray, Orkney, when Ian witnessed what he describes as ‘the most spectacular summer sunset seen there for years.’

12. Jenny Brook Martin – Coastal Landscape Jenny Brook Martin is a self-taught artist and gallery owner. This piece is acrylic ink on cotton using flat-edged tools to achieve the finished effect. 13. Louisa MacDonnell – Valentine Louisa MacDonnell worked on Fleet Street for eight years, as a staff photographer at The Associated Press, during which time she covered world events such as the G8 summit, Champions League Football and US military action in the Gulf.

She now lives in Edinburgh where her clients include The Independent,The Daily Telegraph,The Times and Scotland on Sunday as well as corporate clients such as Standard Life, Heriot Watt University and Redpath Design Agency. The subject of this piece was a gift for the artist by an admirer and in Louisa’s words, ‘you can get lost in the vortex of the perfect rose’.

14. Reuben Paris – Emma Reuben Paris is primarily a commercial photographer from a fine art background, who exhibits personal objects on a yearly basis, which cover a variety of matters and genres. This piece is from a series of portraits shot in Leith and depicts the artist’s wife in their home. 15.Vanessa O’Neill – Untitled Vanessa O’Neill received a Diploma in Printmaking and Textiles in 2004 and had her first solo exhibition in 2005 at the English Market, Cork, Ireland. In the same year, she had one of her pieces selected

for the RDS Student Awards Exhibition in Dublin and another selected for the final exhibition, which travelled to various venues around Ireland. She graduated from The Crawford College of Art and Design with a BA degree (2:1) in Printmaking in 2005.

He took an interest in photography as a child and when Santa left a Kodak 35mm Instamatic under the Christmas Tree when Martin was 7 years old he was hooked. He became serious about his hobby and passion when he left Australia 12 years ago to travel.

This digital photography piece is based on a collection of images inspired by an interest in colour, reflection and shadows.

The piece he has donated is a black and white image of canoes stored for the winter on a riverbank in Malmo, Sweden.

16. Martin Day – Canoes Martin Day is a freelance project manager within the construction industry, with a passion for photography.

17.Vicki Redpath-Watson – Roseneath Terrace Vicki Redpath-Watson was given her first camera at the age of 12 and has been taking pictures ever since. She likes to document the unusual or the ignored – those things that others cease to see. She has exhibited photographs, prints and drawings in The Winter Exhibitions, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull and a group exhibition held by the Hull Artists’ Association at the Posterngate Gallery, Hull. ‘Work has got in the way of my photography for several years and it is only recently that I have made moves

to show again with an exhibition at Sofi’s in January 2007.’ This image depicts one of hundreds of Police Boxes around Edinburgh that few people even notice. This one at Roseneath is still in use. 18. Kate Green – Leith Pubs are Best Kate Green started up her business in June 2005 and since then has enjoyed impressive sales. Her work has exhibited in the Cameo Bar in Leith, the Southern Cross Cafe on Cockburn Street and she has had exhibitions at Boda Bar and Cafe Renroc.

Her main goal is to make original artwork more affordable, for it to be enjoyed more and not stuck behind a piece of glass in a frame. Her donated painting puts well-known Leith pubs together in one street! 19.Terry Adams – Magic Lantern Terry Adams has recently had an exhibition in Sofi’s Bar. ‘I’m not really a photographer. The camera is just a tool for me and I’m anything but a purist. I always manipulate my images before printing – that’s the fun part for me.’

20. Robyn Rowles – Eaves Robyn Rowles’ background is mostly in fine art photography, with some limited work in portrait and commercial work. She moved to Scotland in April of this year from the United States. Since being here she has exhibited at The French Institute, in their Performance exhibit. She is currently in the process of opening a studio and gallery in Edinburgh. This photo was taken in Sydney, Australia and depicts the roof of the famous Sydney Opera House.

21. Peter Griffen – Jay Creek Peter Griffen is a prominent Australian abstract artist whose daughter now lives in Leith. He is very happy to be supporting such a good cause. The image shown is not the same as the piece he has donated, but is similar in style. www.petergriffen.com 22. Eric McGirr – Clouds Gathering Over Crammond This piece depicts the low tide at Crammond on a dull and blustery October afternoon.
