2. Assembly

2.1. Safety provisions 1.

Do not stand on the frame of the folding unit! Use only platforms, the rungs or a climbing aid to climb the scaffold tower.

2. The stipulations of EN 1004 “Mobile work platforms” apply to the structural safety, erection and use of the aforementioned scaffold towers. 3. The scaffolds may only be assembled and used by people who are familiar with these operating and assembly instructions. 4. For the assembly and disassembly of the scaffold, at least two people are required. (Applies to all mobile scaffold towers with a platform height exceeding 2.50 m) 5. Only undamaged and faultless original spare parts of the manufacturer's scaffold system, which refers to the inspection certificate, may be used. Before using the scaffold tower, all parts must be examined for correct assembly and functionality. 6.

According to EN 1004, the maximum platform heights are limited to 8 m in enclosed spaces and 12 m 12.0 m 8.0 m outdoors. For the scaffolds described in these max. max. operating and assembly instructions, the maximum platform height in closed-in spaces is 10 m. 7. The use of lifts on the scaffold is not permitted. 8. The first platform may be at a height of max. 4.40 m above the ground. The distance between further platforms must not exceed 4 m. The platforms must be at least 1.70 m apart. 9. During the assembly and disassembly of the scaffold, platforms or scaffold planks must be laid out completely at a distance of 2 m as assembly aids. Where scaffold planks are used, they must extend 500 mm beyond the scaffold tower on each side. The use of railings and braces as a stand is prohibited. This applies to both assembly and dismantling. 10. The assembly of the scaffold is only permitted perpendicular on a horizontally-level subsurface with sufficient carrying capacity. If necessary, insert loaddistributing pads under the unit. 11. For information about the use of chassis beams, ballast weights, stabilisers and wall spacers to guarantee stability, see these operating and assembly instructions.

6

12. Work on the working platform is only permitted with complete 3-part side protection, that is, railing frames, knee protection and surrounding toe boards. Toeboards are not necessary on the rest platforms. 13. Work on several working platforms simultaneously is not permitted. 14. Stop For wall-side assembly of the scaffold, wall spacers can also be used for ballasting (accessory, order no. 42920).

15. The permissible load capacity of the scaffold with evenly-distributed load is 2.0 kN/m² (according to EN 1004 - scaffolding group 3). 16. When moving the scaffold, neither people nor material or tools may be on the platform. Avoid collisions. The scaffold tower may only be moved by hand, in longitudinal or diagonal direction and on a firm, level surface free of obstacles. The scaffold tower must not be moved at more than normal walking speed. 17. Moving the scaffold with the assistance of vehicles (e.g. fork lifts) is forbidden. The scaffold tower must not be lifted, pulled or pushed using a fork lift. 18. The area on which the scaffold is moved must be able to accommodate its weight. 19. For use outdoors or in open buildings, the scaffold must be moved into a wind-protected area in case of wind strengths above 6 (according to the Beaufort scale), in case of an oncoming storm and when work is complete and protected against tipping with other suitable measures (e.g. anchoring). At wind strengths exceeding 6 on the Beaufort scale (12 m/s), it becomes perceptibly difficult to walk forwards. 20. The bridging of scaffolds to buildings by means of planks etc. is not permitted. The scaffold tower must not be used as a stair tower to reach other constructions. 21. Before using the scaffold, the vertical alignment of the scaffold must be checked and corrected if necessary. 22. The scaffold tower must be checked for correct and complete setup.

7

2.2. Usage regulations 1.

Climbing up to work platforms is allowed to take place from the inside only.

2. Personnel must not brace themselves against the side panels while working. 3. Jumping on the platforms is prohibited. 4. Horizontal loads which could cause the scaffold tower to tip over must not be generated, for example by working on adjacent constructions. 5. Particular attention must be paid to wind conditions which might cause the scaffold tower to tip over when it is used in buildings open to the passage of wind, in uncovered buildings or at the corners of buildings. 6. The platform height must not be increased with the aid of ladders, crates or other devices. 7. Tools and materials may only be handed upwards. Always take the weight of tools and materials into consideration to avoid overloading the work platform. The person handing the load upwards must not let go of it until the person receiving it has a firm hold on it. 8. Scaffold towers with swivel castors can be moved to their final location after assembly. The floor / ground gradient must not exceed 3 %. Avoid all knocks and impacts. When the scaffold tower is in its final position, the alignment must be checked again. 9. When moving the scaffold tower, always take care that it does not touch any live equipment. 10. Electrical tools (drills etc.) may only be operated on the scaffold tower at Safety Extra Low Voltage (48 V), with protective insulation (separation transformer) or if they are connected with a ground fault circuit interrupter with a residual current of 30 mA. The stipulations of BGI 594 must be complied with. 11. Tools and materials must be stored on the work platform in such a way that there is a passageway of 20 cm at the sides of the work platform.

2.3. Working on electrical units with the scaffold tower The scaffold tower must not be used to perform work on or in the vicinity of unprotected live units unless • the section of the unit in question has been disconnected, • the section of the unit in question has been secured against being switched back on, • the section of the unit in question has been checked to ensure that it is not live, • the section of the unit in question has been short-circuited with a grounding bar and • the section of the unit in question has been shielded against adjacent live parts.

8

2.4. Other applicable safety instructions For the checking, assembly and use of the scaffold tower the stipulations of the DGUV information sheet 201-011 "Instructions for the Handling of Work Scaffolds and Protection Scaffolds" apply. BGR 165 and BGI 594 "Safety rules for the use of electrical equipment in the case of increased electrical hazard" apply when using electrical equipment on the scaffold tower.

3.1. General information Chassis beams and stabilisers ensure that the scaffold tower is stable. However, depending on the place of deployment (indoor / outdoor use), these may need to be fitted with ballast weights. For the ballasting, see “Parts list incl. ballasting” on page 31 (lower section of the tables)

3.2. Attaching the ballast

Where the ballast weights are attached and how many of them are required depend on the specific setup and platform height of the scaffold tower. On scaffold towers with stabilisers, ballast weights with fastening clamps (Order No. 42912) must be used. The ballast weights must be attached to the stabiliser – as close as possible to the foot of the stabiliser (scaffold tower type 53762).

3.3. Attaching the anti-twist device To prevent the stabilisers being twisted unintentionally, they should be secured with the anti-twist device (Order No. 42865). One end of the anti-twist device is attached to the stabiliser, the other to the first rung.

3.4. Maintenance, servicing, storage and cleaning The scaffold tower can be cleaned using water with a little household cleaning agent added. Paint spots can be removed using turpentine. Cleaning agents must not be allowed to seep into the soil. • Dispose of used cleaning fluids in accordance with the applicable environmental regulations.

Lubricating the folding unit

• At least once annually lubricate the marked joints of the folding unit all round. Recommendation: a lubricant containing wax, e.g. Würth HSS Drylube.

Lubricating moving parts • Lubricate all moving parts (spindles, bearings of the swivel castors, fasteners) with normal lubricating oil. Select a thin-bodied oil when using the scaffold tower in winter. • Dispose of oil-soaked cleaning cloths in accordance with the relevant environmental protection regulations.

WARNING Danger of falling due to slippery tread surfaces! Lubricating oil on tread surfaces causes falls and injuries. Wipe off superfluous oil.

Transportation and storage • Store scaffold tower components in such a way that they cannot be damaged. • Store scaffold tower components so that they are protected against the effects of weathering. • During transport to and from the place of storage, the scaffold tower components must be secured to prevent sliding and impact. • Do not throw the scaffold tower components when loading them.

3.5. Testing the scaffold tower components If defects are ascertained, the affected components must not be used again.

Push-on end frame • Check for warping, crushing and cracks.

Braces (diagonal / railings) • Check for warping, crushing, cracks and correct functioning of the fastening elements.

Platform • Check for warping, crushing, cracks and correct functioning of the fastening elements. • Check the condition of the wood. • Check the trapdoors for correct functioning.

Toeboards • Check the condition of the wood. • Check the toeboards for cracking.

Swivel castors • Check the castor for smooth running and check that the brake stops the castor rolling or twisting. • In the case of swivel castors with height adjusters, also check that the height adjusters move easily. • Check the drop-out protection (wing bolt, securing plug) on the chassis beams and base frame.

Stop springs • Check for warping, crushing, cracks and correct seating.
