ADULT SUMMER CLASSES Evening 8 week classes with Olga Battaglia: Evening 8 week classes: Time: 7:00-9:30 pm Fee: $340.00 (includes HST) Tuesdays at 7-9:30 pm from July 12 to August 30 INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING “Introduction to Drawing” is a course designed for the person who wants to draw and is seeking practical knowledge and simple technical skills. The basic skills taught are essential to the artist’s development. Learn how to see details and create accurate drawings. Engaging subjects such as portraiture, landscapes and still life will develop the students understanding of different styles, mediums and techniques that will create a unified work of art. Wednesdays at 7-9:30 pm from July 13 to August 31 PAINTING EXPLORATION Through theory, demonstrations, and studio exercises, students will learn to understand the language of creativity and visual representation. With exercises in drawing, painting, color and composition, we will work using a variety of materials, techniques and approaches for both realistic and abstract art. This course is suitable for all skill levels and interests. Thursday at 7-9:30 pm from July 14 to September 1 WATERCOLOUR Explore your artistic talents. This watercolour course is designed for the absolute beginner. Simple approaches will be demonstrated in a step-by-step format. We will study the basic techniques that are essential in watercolour painting. Learn strategies in colour mixing, watercolour washes, and watercolour textures that will enhance and lead to successful artworks. 2

Daytime Workshops with Marija Barac Jandric: 3 Mornings: Tuesday to Thursday 9 - 1:30 pm Dates: August 9 - 11 Fee: $215.00/each (includes HST) LYRICAL LANDSCAPE: A PLEIN AIR PAINTING WORKSHOP BY THE HUMBER RIVER Several approaches to landscape painting will be discussed and step-by-step techniques demonstrated in this outdoor summer program. Special attention will be given to observation, composition, cropping, as well as achieving a sense of distance and depth. All drawing and painting media welcome. Students will be responsible for materials. If a list is required, it will be provided ahead of time (please include email address upon registration so that the supply list can be sent to you). Students will bring water and snacks.

FREE Family Day with Bronwen Parker: Date: Sunday June 19 Time: Drop-in from 12 noon - 4 pm Age: Activity for 7 yrs and older SUMMER SOLSTICE MOSAIC PROJECT Learn hands-on how to create mixed media mosaics for outdoor spaces. Get inspired and let your style shine brightly as you design and decorate a sunbeam that will added to our large mosaic sun and installed permanently in the Art Works Art Garden. Beginners welcome, all materials included!

Morning FABLES, FAIRIES AND FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Draw, paint, and sculpt your way through a menagerie of Aesop’s Animals; bat, bird, fox, lion, mouse, sheep, and the infamous Big Bad Wolf. Visit Mother Goose, and be introduced to the Old Lady in a Shoe, Girl with a Curl, Humpty Dumpty, Mother Hubbard, The Queen of Hearts, Simple Simon, and Wee Willy Winkle. Learn about rhymes and storytelling through poetry and fables read in class. Material exploration will involve collage, pastel, marker, chalk, tempera paint, 3D diorama and step-by-step drawing lessons include animals, architecture and people. PERFECT PRINTS AND MUCH, MUCH, MORE! 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This class is ideal for the young student interested in the exploration and experimentation of different materials. Exposure to individual artists and art styles through history will also take place. Drawing, design, and painting techniques will be introduced with a special focus on various printmaking techniques, such as relief, mono printing, silkscreen printing and collagraphs. Projects will be a combination of materials and techniques to create a mixed media finished work. CAMERA, ROLLING, ACTION 7-11 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge Shoot a movie; create props, invent a story line, storyboard it, then act it out! Create special effects; choose your own music and sound effects! This is an exciting and educational camp with emphasis on team work, skill building, problem solving and editing. Children will work off site in the neighbourhood. Creative freedom will be encouraged in student work with some guidelines proposed by the instructor. A private YouTube account will link you to your child’s film. CANADIAN EXPRESS 8-12 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko Paint a lyrical landscape that captures the spirit of Canadian North – strong and free, inspired by Lauren Harris. Try colour field painting techniques, as you create an abstract composition in acrylic, inspired by Jack Bush. Set up your own domestic still life and use oil pastels to render it in the realistic style of Mary Pratt. Join the slew of Canadian artists who participated in Toronto-based project “Moose in the City” by creating your own public sculpture of a moose and decorating it in a unique personal style.

Afternoon ILLUSTRATION SENSATION 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Enter amazing illustrations of Carle, Lionni, Martchenko, Reid and Wildsmith with a whirl wind tour of the fantastical; be small as a Hungry Caterpillar or Subway Mouse or large as David’s Father. Take a trip to outer space in Professor Noah’s Spaceship, climb Trees, and Mount Everest in Peg and the Yeti and dive into waters on Pyjama Day with Mister Seahorse and Fish is Fish. These imaginative illustrators inspire us to create our own illustrious drawings, paintings, and prints. Program includes stories and themes of the day. 4

MIX IT UP! 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This dynamic camp is for students interested in the exploration and experimentation of different two and three dimensional materials. Introduction to artists and art styles through history will incorporate drawing, painting, collage, assemblage and sculpture techniques with an emphasis on new and unique ways of combining the use of traditional materials. Projects encourage a combined, mixed media use of materials such as wood, clay, acrylic paint and paper. The work of artists Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Paterson Ewen, and Louise Nevelson will be referenced. GRAPHIC NOVELS 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Learn the art of sequential storytelling with a focus on developing your own original voice. Cartoon techniques will include character building, forced perspective and panel breakouts with inspiration from some of the best graphic novelists. Develop a story through the process of visual storytelling with an emphasis on narration and a focus on completing your story. SCULPTURE MASTERCLASS 8-12 yrs PM Instructor: Olga Lysenko This class is designed for students who are seriously interested in developing techniques for making 3-dimensional work. Students will be introduced to clay modelling, carving into plaster of Paris, architectural construction using wood, wire armature building and more. Projects will span historical periods and styles and will include an Egyptian Sphinx, a human head, and Cubist composition.

WEEK 2: July 11-15

Morning DRAGONS AND DINOSAURS 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Whether they lived millions of years ago or in our imaginations today, dinosaurs and dragons are the most amazing animals on earth. Dare to draw these animals, reptiles, and insects using ovals, triangles, squares and wavy lines. Make a giant tooth, articulated insect, a plaster foot print, cave wall and a creature inside and out along with its habitat! This program offers campers the opportunity to work with a variety of materials and techniques. DRAWING DIARY 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Draw, paint and sculpt the natural habitat. Create a diary with images of flowers, trees, birds, and bugs that make their home in our forests and rivers. Work from observation referencing master drawings of Da Vinci and draw images of plants, twigs and animals in soft pencils, sepia conté, and charcoal. Make beautiful watercolour paintings of wild flowers in local ravines based on Joan Mitchell’s work and paint stylized and fancy fish in acrylic paint like Norval Morrisseau. Wrap up the week with an Adam Goldsworthy environmental sculpture made with natural objects collected outdoors and capture the image for your drawing diary. 5

THE ART AND MAGIC OF HARRY POTTER 7-11 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge Hey Kids the magical world of Harry Potter never ends. Join the fantastical world of Harry Potter and become a magician by creating magic wands, hats, your own snitch and a book of spells! All amazing art projects are a wonderful mixture of illustrations, sculpture and mixed media! BACKYARD BOHO 11-16 yrs AM Instructor: Bronwen Parker This super fun outdoor camp will transform the Art Garden into an amazing treasure trove of Bohemian style embellished surfaces. From the tent to the ground we will be decorating and creating with mosaics, paint, fabric and found items. Reclaimed materials will be re-used in new, fabulous, and functional ways. It’s a celebration of joy and colour you won’t want to miss. TEEN PORTFOLIO 11-14 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko This preparatory course is designed to serve as a weeklong workshop in portfolio development.Teens will begin the building process with a variety of art and design related projects that explore many different mediums. Personal development in a structured environment will be encouraged along with an exploration and discussion on process, content and presentation skills. This camp may also serve as an opportunity to introduce students to our fall, winter, and spring, portfolio building after-school or weekend programs.

Afternoon MAGICAL MERMAIDS AND SHIMMERY SHARKS 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Meet magical watercolour mermaids and colourful sea horse sculptures as you explore the exotic ocean life of far off lands! Aquatic creatures, painterly corals and shells are yours for the making. Wade through warm turquoise waters and dive into deep sea greens, blues and purples as you travel through the habitat of joyful jellyfish, swimming sharks, and wonderful whales! Dip into this exciting mixed media program and enjoy fun and engaging watery-world stories and art activities. NATURALLY INCLINED 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Environmental art has the power to change our view of the world. Students learn about this art movement and create art inspired by nature, and design with projects that celebrate our environment. With drawing and painting, choose a favourite bird to illustrate with the elegant precision of Audubon and make it part of a protection poster. Paint a fearsome storm or an awesome sunset inspired by Turner and create oil pastel drawings of an endangered animal surrounded by lush jungle vegetation, in the Naive style of Henri Rousseau. Use drawing and collage to design eco-friendly modes of transportation. STAR WARS 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Calling all Jedi Engineers! The Empire is rising yet again and the Dark Force is growing. We need you to design faster, stealthier ships and weaponry. Design new armour for the Delta Squad, and sleeker light sabers! Help us defeat the dark side once and for all. This is a camp for boys and girls, with the introduction of new characters from the new Star Wars movie, to create projects inspired by old and new characters such as Rey, Finn, Han Solo and Princess Leia!! Morning ALL ABOUT YOU! 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian This program incorporates a series of multi-step projects with a common theme throughout being all about you. Explore the face and figure while you learn how to represent them through proportion using basic shapes and line. Projects will include: life-sized mixed media person, 3 dimensional sculptures out of wire and plaster, portraits, hinged puppets as well as drawing and designing clothing for your whole family. ZENTANGLE 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko Zentangle, the hottest trend in drawing, is an easy and fun way of creating beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Become the master of Zentangle techniques and create fantastically intricate and unique illustrations of birds, animals, skulls and more. We will also explore the art styles that influenced Zentangle: mystical Hindu mandalas, decorative designs of Gustav Klimt and gothic illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley. You will end up with a colouring book featuring your illustrations. ANIME ACTION 7-11 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge In Japan, the term anime does not specify an animation’s nation of origin or style; instead, it serves as a blanket term to refer to all forms of animation from around the world. This is a perfect class for kids who love cartooning, art, manga and anime all combined together. Students will improve their illustration skills and learn about how cartoon characters move, react and speak with acrylic paints, multi coloured sharpies, pencils, markers and watercolours in this exciting and colourful world of Anime Action! IMPRESSIONIST VISIONS 8-12 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This is a paint-packed camp ideal for campers who want to explore the painterly, robust techniques and colourful, light-filled world of the Impressionists. Make work based on artists like Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Edgar Degas, and Mary Cassatt. Drawing and painting projects include portraiture, the figure in motion, and lyrical landscapes. Various techniques will be taught through the use of pencil, charcoal, pastel and acrylic paint including pointillism, impasto, wet-on-wet painting, and scumbling. One sculpture project will also be executed using clay and paint. GROW YOUR GARDEN 11-16 yrs AM Instructor: Bronwen Parker This week you will be super inspired to create whimsical mosaic garden art out of found and recycled stuff. We will also be transforming and bringing the garden to life in full colour beautiful permanent mosaic on the planter walls and you will make and take home a garden treasure to start your own art garden. 7

Afternoon FANTASTIC FOOD 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Ordering! One hamburger, medium fries, large coke and one chocolate cupcake! No, you’re not going to eat it; you are going to create it! Using canvas, paint, paper mâché, clay, drawing and printmaking techniques to make impressionistic and modern art, with CANDY and FOOD as the subject! Make yummy art you can make and take home to display. This camp introduces students to pop art masters such as Claes Oldenburg,Andy Warhol and Wayne Thiebaud. MINIATURE ART 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Olga Lysenko From traditional architecture to modern art, experience the stretch of human imagination and learn some shrinking and enlarging techniques, scale, proportion, form and size are the focus of the projects that will appeal to the sculptor, engineer and architect in you. Recreate existing monuments, such as Statue of Liberty or the Leaning Tower of Pisa in finely crafted miniatures and enlarge small ordinary objects to greater than life dimensions. Enjoy turning the world upside down! CARTOON STUDIO 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Have a great time learning to illustrate caricatures, characters with emotion using various illustration techniques and colour. Create your own animation with multi-media projects such as flip books and thaumatropes! Classes are designed for young future cartoonists with humour and originality in mind. EXPRESSIVE JOURNEY 8-12 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This camp is a great opportunity for students to express their thoughts and emotions by using powerful colours and dynamic compositions through drawing, painting and printmaking projects. Learn about famous Expressionist artists like Edvard Munch, Kathe Kollwitz and Franz Marc. Explore works like the “The Scream” and “Blue Horses” while you create your own Expressionist masterpiece.

WEEK 4: July 25-29

Morning MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Celebrate the love of music - make, design and decorate your own instruments! Learn to transform everyday household items into highly decorated musical instruments that create a rich range of sounds. This camp will close with a musical performance showing off the sights and sounds of your beautiful handmade instruments; guiros, maracas, sistrums, drums and hand harps. HORSING AROUND 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Admired by children for generations, these great galloping creatures are the focus of this exciting equine camp! Horses have always inspired artists from cave paintings in Lascaux to Da Vinci and Degas. Explore the wonders of man’s most magnificent ally; historical, mythical (like Pegasus and Unicorns), literary, magical and even wild horses. Horse around with different styles and materials from drawing, illustration, painting and sculpture. Students will have an opportunity to create horses of clay, relief sculpture of horseshoes in plasticine, unicorns created with acetate and many other art projects. These projects will incorporate the use of colour, patterns, textures, shape and form. 8

MINECRAFT DESIGN AND PERSPECTIVE 8-12 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko Learn the tricks and techniques of creating dazzling and convincing 3-dimentional worlds. Find out how the visual design of Minecraft is based on the rules of perspective, developed by artists 500 years ago. We will study the invention of perspective in Renaissance, and follow with the modernist views of urban spaces in the works of Futurists and Cubists. You will then craft your own environments and characters by drawing constructions made entirely of Minecraftinspired building blocks. Materials include paper, variety of drawing and painting tools, collage and linking cubes for reference. MOSAICS AND MORE 11-16 yrs AM Instructor: Bronwen Parker Join in the fun creating sun catchers, bottle trees, and stepping stones just part of the awesome things we will be making this week outside in Art Works Art Garden. You will also be designing and creating your personal mosaic super star and fabulous flower to go on the large permanent mosaic mural.This is the week to really leave your mark in the garden.

Afternoon WORLD OF ANIMALS 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Draw a monkey, paint a lion, sketch blue horses or construct a goat. This delightful camp introduces young students to the magical world of animals in art. Build skills as you learn about stylistically diverse artists from Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso to Henri Rousseau and Franz Marc. These artists often used animals in their art but in very different ways. Students will use various drawing mediums including pencils, pastels, pen and ink, and learn how to use watercolour, acrylic paints through different applications. Printmaking and sculpture will also be introduced. ART POTPOURRI 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This is a fun and playful studio camp introducing students to drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media. Materials will include pastel, watercolour, acrylic paint, clay, plaster and some unconventional materials. Projects will introduce students to the building blocks of art-making with an emphasis on the joy of experimentation. URBAN ART 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge In this modern world of ours we are enticed by the cool creativities of urban street art such as graffiti, skateboard and surf board design. Influences and artists from the grittiness of New York to the laid back world of California will be used as an inspiration for a mixed media of wonderful projects. Kids will learn from the styles of Banksy and Basquiat! MIXED MEDIA AND PRINTMAKING 8-12 yrs PM Instructor: Olga Lysenko This camp is ideal for students interested in the exploration and experimentation of different materials. Individual artists and art styles through history will be introduced. Work with include drawing, design, and painting with a special focus on experimenting with different printmaking techniques such as relief, mono printing and collagraphs. Some projects will be a combination of materials and techniques to create mixed media finished works. 9

WEEK 5: August 2-5 (4 Days)

Morning DRAW AND PAINT CLUB 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Formal but fun studio exercises introduce students to techniques in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. By exploring the work of traditional and modern masters, both time-honoured and experimental techniques in pencil, charcoal, conté, pastel, pen and ink, acrylic paint and printmaking will be taught through several step-by-step projects. DRAWING AND PAINTING STUDIO 7-12 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko Working from a variety of subjects, students will develop their studio skills with an emphasis on traditional approaches to drawing and painting. Fundamentals in drawing will include gesture, contour, composition, tonal values, and perspective and through painting students will learn colour mixing, application and descriptive use of colour. This camp will inspire young artists and give them the tools needed to enhance their learning in art.

Afternoon SCULPT AND MIXED MEDIA CLUB 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian This camp includes fun projects with new techniques for the budding young artist! They learn to form in three-dimensional space and explore dynamic approaches to working with new materials. Students will discover how to use clay, wire, fabric, masking tape, plaster and paint to construct a figurative sculpture, design a freeform abstract sculpture and create a scale model of a person or a pet. Mixed media projects on paper and printmaking will be included. SCULPTURE AND MIXED MEDIA STUDIO 7-12 yrs PM Instructor: Olga Lysenko In this skill-building course students will learn to represent forms in two and three-dimensional space. Explore structure, dimension and proportion of various objects and figure-based work in a series of studies. Then, discover how you can use clay, wire, fabric, masking tape, plaster and paint to construct your sculptures, and design models to scale. Look for inspiration to the iconic artworks of Jean Arp, Giacometti and more. Students will be encouraged to experiment and give their pieces unique characteristics.

WEEK 6: August 8-12

Morning BEATLEMANIA 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Create images to music, as you listen to songs by the Beatles and interpret them in your own way. Draw, paint and print your way through the Beatles anthology with songs like Yellow Submarine, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, Here Comes The Sun, Blackbird, and Lady Madonna. Take a musical journey through the world of visual art. LEGO WORLD 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Do you love building in Lego? Build a bipedal Bionicle, a sleek star fighter, a wizard’s castle, a small dwelling or multi terrain vehicle. The intention is to build with Lego and then spend some time drawing and painting your creations with backdrops and extreme lighting to get haunting shadows and wonderful perspective! We will also try printmaking Lego and even cast low relief sculptures in plaster. Art Works will have Lego on hand for this camp. ITALIAN JOURNEY 8-12 yrs AM Instructor: Olga Lysenko Begin your Italian art adventure in the eternal city of Rome and then work your way north to Florence, Venice, and the heart of the Renaissance. This program introduces students to drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media projects based on Roman classical antiquity and fresco painting, early Florentine iconography, Renaissance portraiture, Venetian illustrations of carnival costumes and the tradition of decorative mask making.

Afternoon MAD HATTERS 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Join this party and make a Mad Hatter’s Hat, a disappearing Cheshire cat, a papier mâché tea cup, a playing card knight and rabbit’s house. And what do all of these things have in common? A little girl named Alice. Using Lewis Carroll’s enchanting story of Alice in Wonderland, students will explore literature and art- making in tandem. MODERN MASTERS 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Students of this fine arts camp will learn the difference of abstract art by Jackson Pollock and the cutting edge of Art Deco architecture! Projects include sculpture of modern buildings, acrylic paintings of post-modernism, drawings and studies of futuristic creativities in multi-media with pastels, watercolours and ink. Morning GARDENS THINGS AND FAIRY WINGS 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Shoora Majedian This camp is based on garden creatures, both real and imagined. Through a combination of observation and storytelling, children will create an imaginary fairy tale world in a fantastical garden inspired by snails, butterflies, lady bugs and a variety of real garden inhabitants! Projects incorporate the use of patterns, colours, textures, shapes and forms seen in a garden environment. This is a mixed media program with both 2D and 3D projects. Students explore working in a variety of different mediums such as pastels, paints and plasticine. MEDIEVAL TIMES 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge Step back in time to 15th century Europe; learn tales of chivalry and bravery with Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, design, create and paint a castle, draw a Gothic church elevation, design stained glass windows, and collage a family crest and Standard flag. Learn about arms, armour and the fashion of Queen Guinevere and her court and create your own personal Codex like the learned monks. Experience a full week of art, history and mystery! Afternoon HORSES AND UNICORNS 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Shoora Majedian Admired by children for generations, these great galloping creatures are the focus of this exciting equine camp! Students will have an opportunity to create horses of clay, relief sculpture of horseshoes in plasticine, unicorns created with acetate and many other art projects. These projects will incorporate the use of colour, patterns, textures, shape and form. TRAVEL JOURNEY 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Kids will explore and have an incredible adventure with this camp. Art projects are inspired by fascinating cultures and countries around the globe. We will make masks from Africa, skulls from Mexico and toys from Russia to name a few. Morning TOOLS AND TECHNI-COLOUR 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Young artists will be inspired by a world of colour as they are introduced to the rules of colour theory and then learn to break them! Traditional techniques will include splatter and drip painting onto raw canvas, fabric silkscreen and marbling onto paper. Experimental processes will show students how to create melted crayon landscapes and teach them how to design their own enamel swirled ceramic cups. ILLUSTRATION AND INNOVATION 7-11 yrs AM Instructor: Kass Reich Join us as we explore the work of iconic illustrators throughout the years. Students will learn all about the mediums used by each artist and the process they followed.The class will then get the chance to create their own unique illustrations using what they have learned as inspiration. The course will include a range of drawing, painting and 3D elements. 13

CAMERA, ROLLING, ACTION 7-11 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge Shoot a movie; create props, invent a story line, storyboard it, then act it out! Create special effects; choose your own music and sound effects! This is an exciting and educational camp with emphasis on team work, skill building, problem solving and editing. Children will work off site in the neighbourhood. Creative freedom will be encouraged in student work with some guidelines proposed by the instructor. A private YouTube account will link you to your child’s film. TEEN PORTFOLIO BUILDING 11-14 yrs AM Instructor: Marija Barac Jandric This preparatory course is designed to serve as a weeklong workshop in portfolio development.Teens will begin the building process with a variety of art and design related projects that explore many different mediums. Personal development in a structured environment will be encouraged along with an exploration and discussion on process, content and presentation skills. This camp may also serve as an opportunity to introduce students to our fall, winter, and spring, portfolio building after-school or weekend programs.

Afternoon CANADIAN COLLECTION 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This course introduces students to themes and styles in traditional and contemporary Canadian art. This is a great opportunity to learn new techniques in drawing, painting and sculpture, while getting to know our unique national heritage. Projects reference totemic sculpture and images from the West Coast and Emily Carr, Group of Seven landscapes, as well as abstract and figurative works by artists such as Harold Town, the Group of Eleven, and Alex Colville. FIGURE EXPLORATION 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge This program incorporates a series of multi-step projects with the human figure as the common theme. Build a sculpture of the figure, paint a self-portrait in watercolour and study the figure in motion as you learn about the history of sports such as archery, fencing, and track and field. Materials include pencil, pen and Ink, markers, watercolour, acrylic paint and mixed media. Modern artists like Matisse, Modigliani, Picasso, and Giacometti will be explored. LET’S FACE IT 7-11 yrs PM Instructor: Kass Reich Through drawing and illustration, painting and sculpture, campers discover the expressive and intriguing world of portraiture. Learn about proportion, facial planes, light and shadow, line and tone, colour and composition through various mediums including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolour and acrylic paint. Both traditional and experimental techniques will be covered. Learn to sculpt a three dimensional bust out of clay. Morning DISCOVERY WALK 4-6 yrs AM Instructor: Mike Goodge Learn about the beauty and power of nature in art as you draw, paint, and print your own masterpieces. Inspiration will come from Monet’s gardens,Van Gogh’s sunflowers and the work of other artists.Art lessons will include painting on canvas, decorative printing on paper, silk screen on fabric and detailed black and white drawings in pen and ink. Students will also journey outdoors to get a closer look at nature. PASSION FOR PERSIA 6-9 yrs AM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi This camp will introduce the art of Persia with its divine and dramatic characters and mythical stories from its ancient past. All forms of art making will be covered including drawing, painting, and sculpture as students make Persian miniatures, reliefs, ancient coins, and silver trays. This camp draws its inspiration from the Ferdowsi epic work Shahnameh, The Persian Book of Kings. REFRESHINGLY FRENCH 8-12 yrs AM Instructor: Kass Reich Immerse yourself in the French language as you draw, paint and sculpt your way through the urban streets of Paris and rural roads of France. Projects will be based on works of the French Impressionists Claude Monet, Georges Seurat and Edgar Degas. They include pointillist portraits, landscape paintings, pastel drawings and clay sculpture. Bienvenue mon amis! (This is a casually bilingual camp with informal use of conversational French. Non-French speaking students are welcome and can also participate without any difficulty.)

Afternoon DRAGONS AND DINOSAURS 4-6 yrs PM Instructor: Mike Goodge Whether they lived millions of years ago or in our imaginations today, dinosaurs and dragons are the most amazing animals on earth. Dare to draw these animals, reptiles, and insects using ovals, triangles, squares and wavy lines. Make a giant tooth, articulated insect, a plaster foot print, cave wall and a creature inside and out along with its habitat! This program offers campers the opportunity to work with a variety of materials and techniques. STOP MOTION FILM ANIMATION 6-9 yrs PM Instructor: Moojan Nazmi Children will make their imagination come alive with the magic of stop motion animation. Students will make their own short movie with a new technique of stop motion each term. Inspired by myths, fantasy and their own imaginative stories, students will make them come alive by building the characters and environments with simple items like, paper, clay and paint. Students will learn how to use the camera and computer as well. At the end of the course there will be a viewing and a private link to their movie on YouTube. PETIT PARIS ATELIER 8-12 yrs PM Instructor: Kass Reich This camp is a delightful introduction to the art and culture of the Paris Belle Époque. Projects include Cubist portraits based on the work of Picasso, mixed media collages referencing Juan Gris, and sculptural creations celebrating Brancusi. Illustrate your own posters in the style of Toulouse-Lautrec as you sit at the famous Cafe de la Paix. See you at the Left Bank! based art school whose mandate is to introduce adults, teens and children to the enriching world of art in a positive, creative and healthy environment. Art Works Art School is located in the Baby Point Gates BIA District of Toronto, four blocks north of the Jane Subway Station between Bloor and Annette Streets, Bloor West Village and The Junction. Parking is free and available on Jane Street and neighboring side streets. Art Works Art School also houses the Frank Hoff Library (a resource library), Art Works Art Gallery, and Art Works Art Store, where you can purchase retail art supplies. The Fine Print

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Please read the following if you are registering for a class or camp: Procedure: Registration can be made by mail, in person at the school; by telephone, or on-line. YOUR REGISTRATION IS VALID ONCE FULL PAYMENT IS MADE AND PROCESSED. We issue receipts via email. Payment can be made either by cash, cheque, debit,VISA, Master Card or American Express. Registrations are on a first-come first-served basis as soon as term schedules are available. We do not prorate camps. Adult classes are limited by the size of studio. Teens and children’s classes are limited to 18 students per class, with the exception of Kinder Kids which is limited to 12 and Free to Be Three which is limited to 6. Your payment of the registered art class will assure you of your place in the class. Classes may be postponed due to enrolment numbers, please call the school to confirm start date. We do not call students if a class is running, only in the event of postponing or cancelling a class. Discounts: A 10% discount fee is given for the second child or teen’s course in the same family by a sibling or by the same child if registered in the same term. This discount is not applicable to adult classes, birthdays or to camps. Seniors (65 years or older) receive a 10% discount for classes they take, upon presentation of identification. Class Cancellations: Students may cancel their registration without charge up to 14 calendar days prior to course start date with the exception of a 6% cancellation fee for credit card refunds which will immediately apply. Notice of cancellation must be given to the school’s office in writing. Absence from class does not constitute notice of cancellation. Students who wish to withdraw 13 calendar days or less prior to class will be charged a cancellation fee of $70.00. Students cancelling registration after the first class will be charged for that class plus the cancellation fee of $70.00. No refunds or credits will be given after the second class. Art Works Art School reserves the right to postpone classes, dependent upon numbers. Should the school need to cancel a course due to low enrollment, all students will be notified in advance, and full refunds issued. Camp Cancellations: No refunds will be given once camp begins. A $70.00 cancellation fee will be charged to any cancellations 13 calendars days prior to camp commencement.
