ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair In the wide walkways of shopping malls, in hotel receptions, or the interiors of restaurants and cafes; from quiet corners to lobby areas, don’t be surprised if you bump into an art exhibition! No longer confined within the walls of art galleries, clearly, art is now everywhere. And at the ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair, art is now for everyone!
In a similar vein, local art galleries will be encouraged to hold more exhibitions. While this is good news for the art fraternity, it also has a downside – artists will have to wait longer for their turns to showcase their pieces, as the waiting list has increased. Still, this amounts to a “good problem” and will certainly foster greater anticipation from everyone… the more the merrier!
Along with Malaysia’s nationwide effort to promote our artists and artworks to emerge as an art hub of the region, ArtMalaysia Association is holding our inaugural Art Tourism Fair as a unique platform and ideal destination for artists and art lovers alike.
Likewise, art auctions are gaining momentum in this country. Small wonder then, as art is seen as a viable investment in the uncertain economic climate. Art auction houses in Kuala Lumpur continue to record healthy, sales-breaking figures. Furthermore, the frequency of art exchange among other countries is on the increase.
Our country’s active arts scene is on the rise; Malaysian museums and galleries have been a scene of robust development for art. Ample space has been made available to nurture and display the most impressive artistic renditions and expressions from this region and beyond.
Amid this flurry of activities, ArtMalaysia Association presents the Art Tourism Fair to complement the dynamic art scene by offering contemporary art in a very accessible manner to the ordinary Joe. Hence our theme – Now Art is for Everyone!
The expansion of art awareness and enjoyment can be attributed to the support of the leadership in this country. Indeed, art has held the attention – and affections – of many, and now, the Ministry of Tourism has launched the 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism Festival (1MCAT) to further that.

Foreword When Tourism Malaysia initiated 1Malaysia Contemporar y Art Tourism Festival (1MCAT) by then Minister of Tourism Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen in 2010, the idea was to position Malaysia as an art tourism destination. In addition to its main attractions such as food, shopping and beaches, an art tourism package was created for tourists to appreciate, collect and invest in Malaysian artworks.
international art galleries to participate in such art fair. In years to come, Malaysia shall be deemed as another soughtafter international art fair destination whereby tourists will mark their calendars to visit our countr y. With a showcase of local and international artworks, the freedom of choice for art selection will be an added delight for art collectors in viewing and purchasing the artworks during this art fair.
1Malaysia Contemporar y Art Tourism Festival in collaboration with ArtMalaysia Association have pioneered this event with the theme Now Art is For Ever yone. Art collection has always been presumed for the rich and affluent ones, not forgetting the corporates. Nevertheless, art appreciation and collection does not only necessarily depict buying expensive masterpieces. In the art world, purchasing accessible artworks in affordable prices are promising as art will appreciate in value in the growing years. In this international art fair, the organisers are promoting affordable art ranging from RM1,000-RM30,000 in making art accessible to art collectors and this unique initiative has attracted
What’s new, this year’s 1MCAT has introduced a twist to its campaign; the 1MCAT Art Trail Shuttle that ferries visitors from seven participating hotels to shopping malls in the city to enjoy artworks and sculptures that are displayed. It is another new initiative to make art conveniently accessible to tourists who love art and may like to collect Malaysian contemporar y works of art. This art shuttle runs within the perimeter of the Kuala Lumpur city. A big round of applause to 1MCAT, participating hotels and shopping malls; indeed it is a collective effort that will spark another gateway to access Malaysian masterpieces.
NOW ART IS FOR EVERYONE

I am utmost glad for the initiation of 1MCAT Festival. It is not just about Malaysian contemporar y art, but it is also about promoting Malaysia as an art tourism destination that offers many interesting sites for art tourism packages such as the Pearl of the Orient, Penang, fishing village and bird migration sanctuar y at Kuala Sepetang, mangrove forest at Matang, rainforest resort at Tasik Belum, and Johor ’s national park, Endau Rompin. There are artists who also traversed to Gua Sam Poh Tong in Ipoh to paint on the walls of the cave and ventured to Batu Caves during Thaipusam.
while pursuing their art quest. We also have the Filipino artists who are exhibiting their masterpieces while gathering with Malaysian artists for an art exchange programme. This group will eventually travel north to Langkawi in preparing themselves for next year’s major event, Langkawi Art Biennale 2014. The same art quest goes to the Korean and Indonesian participants of this art fair. AATF ser ves as an art platform with dual objectives; to showcase affordable contemporar y artworks and promoting Malaysia, Your New Art Tourism Destination.
These art tourism packages are marketed through Adventure Quest & Tours. 1MCAT’s annual festival is ver y crucial to the process of promoting these art tourism packages and it is clearly visible in this present art fair. Prior and even after the art fair, artists cum tourists are visiting the art galleries while some of them can be seen doing their outdoor sketchings of Sultan Abdul Samad building at Dataran Merdeka. Other participating artists from China are hopping to the historical city of Melaka, Ipoh and Genting Highlands for sightseeing
With the support of Tourism Malaysia to continue holding 1MCAT Festival, this will elevate the pioneering art tourism packages. LIEW KIAN YAP EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF ARTMALAYSIA MAGAZINE

Message from Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Malaysia is a multiracial country that is rich in culture and history. The works of arts that are being exhibited in the art galleries are of good quality and meet the eyes of art collectors and feed their souls. Of late, the skills of young contemporary artists have spring boarded in which their artworks are greatly sougth after whereas the works of art by senior, renowned artists are also extensively sought after through art auctions. The initiative of ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair (AATF) with the theme Now Art is For Everyone, is indeed timely for art enthusiasts. Added to the excitement of this internation art fair, there are also participaitng artists from China, Korea, Iran, Philippines, and Indonesia. With participation from international artists, it indicates that Malaysia serves as an ideal destination for tourists to come and immense themselves in art exposure and at the same time, with the possibility of purchasing the artworks with affordable price. I wish ArtMalaysia Association in making AATF success; and I encourage them to continue to enhance their efforts of organising this international art fair by exhibiting good quality artworks while making art accessible to all. This endeavour will eventually develop Malaysia as art attraction whereby tourists will visit annually to purchase art.

Message by President of ArtMalaysia Association, Alias Bin Hashim Welcome to ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair! Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism (MCAT) was first launched in 2010. Our organization had been very supportive to the implementation of MCAT that was organised by Tourism Malaysia. Since then, MCAT has been uplifted to greater heights and with continuous support from local art galleries, art associations and shopping malls. Furthermore, we are utmost glad that ArtMalaysia Association has been appointed to spearhead MCAT 2013. The appetite for contemporary art from the general public and corporate sector is expanding and trending in Malaysia. These art enthusiasts are increasing in numbers and they have gained knowledge in appreciating and investing in contemporary works of art. It has become a norm that art enthusiasts and art collectors will travel abroad in attending international art fairs in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Korea and Europe. Similarly, ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair (AATF) is an art tourism package; aligning with other correlated art tourism packages such as gourmet tourism, mega sales tourism and even eco-tourism. For instance, the participating artists from Shanghai Xing Yuan Tang Painting & Calligraphy Gallery in China; they have arrived several days early in Malaysia. They first visited historical Malacca city prior to their attendance in participating in this art tourism fair. Furthermore, they will extend their stay to travel to Ipoh, Perak and Penang. Their travelling continues to Genting Highlands and throughout their holidays, apart from sightseeing, they will also spend their time in outdoor sketching and painting in which this is the product of art tourism. Likewise, Iranian, Filipino, Indonesian and Korean participants who are joining ArtMalaysia Art Tourism Fair, will also participate in Langkawi Art Biennale 2014; showcasing Malaysia as a potential platform for art tourism. We hope with the continuous programmes from MCAT, Malaysia will definitely be the new art tourism destination. ArtMalaysia Association has organised this contemporary art fair with the theme ‘Now Art is for Everyone’. Irrefutably, the passion for art comes with different taste buds in their choice of collecting artworks. Thus, this international art fair is specially organised to make art accessible to young art collectors. This event is supported by a total of fifteen art galleries, artists’ studios and art associations from Iran, Korea, China, Philippines and Indonesia. This initiative possesses a wide array of masterpieces from known artists and young emerging artists as well. I am very sure that this art exhibition will be utmost promising for art enthusiasts. Lastly, may I take this opportunity to thank all the participants again in taking this challenge to promote their works of art and support the initiative of MCAT in making Malaysia, Your New Art Tourism Destination. LAUNCHING OF 1MALAYSIA CONTEMPORARY ART TOURISM FESTIVAL
2013 NOW ART IS FOR EVERYONE
1MCAT, our country’s premier contemporary art festival, is back to town with a series of enthralling events to tickle one’s fancy. This tourism product by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia has heightened its repute by uniquely introducing the facets of our motherland to visitors from foreign and local visitors alike. This distinctive event offers a fascinating insight into Malaysia’s contemporary art scene. Showcasing the works of art of established and emerging artists, 1MCAT is an inspiring event to create a more vibrant contemporary art scene to be seen as one of the best art attractions in the world. It acts as a platform for art enthusiasts, gallery owners, artists as well as the new generation of collectors to forge business alliances, acquire new contemporary art works, share ideas and exchange information about the contemporary art of Malaysia. Revolving around shopping malls in the proximity of Kuala Lumpur, these events are spiced up with distinctive art fairs, art auctions and art exhibitions during the three-month period.
13
Entering its third year, 1MCAT is fine-tuning its pathway in making Malaysia as a contemporary art hub by parading stunning works of local artists. The collaboration of art galleries, museums, state governments, embassies and educational institutions, nongovernmental organisations and the private sector is an effectual endeavour to promote the event extensively. During the launching of 1MCAT, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamad Nazri bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia has quipped, “Malaysia’s natural wonders have been her biggest draw for many years. However, we recognised that our contemporary art industry was burgeoning and compelling - an attraction in itself! 1MCAT highlights the best of what the industry has to offer, and the festival is also a way to support our local players by giving them the limelight that they truly deserve.” What’s more, this year’s 1MCAT has developed a new twist to its campaign; the 1MCAT Art Trail Shuttle that ferries visitors from participating hotels to shopping malls in the city. The introduction
of this highly convenient shuttle encourages a greater number of tourists into the country. In fact, the Art Trail Shuttle makes art conveniently accessible to art lovers and enthusiasts. “Like the KL Hop-On-and-Hop-Off bus, the Art Shuttle works along a similar concept”, quoted YB Dato’ Seri Mohamad Nazri bin Abdul Aziz “Tourists will have the flexibility to get on and off at different points, and the reason behind this is that art should be made conveniently accessible. If the response) is good, it could one day be a permanent feature and a selling point for our unique brand of art tourism. ” he said. The shuttle bus stops by selected hotels including Renaissance Hotel, Maya Hotel, Corus Hotel and Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The shuttle bus operates hourly from 10am to 6pm daily until September 30. Entrance to almost all the festival events is free, and tourists – both foreign and local are welcomed to experience the full-fledged art events as much as they can during their course of stay in Kuala Lumpur city centre.

These artists differ in their painting styles, yet united in the common goal of spreading influence of Malaysian female artists within the countr y using the international language of art. Hailing from different walks of life, these four women are the vanguardist for the female artists in the nation, to seek out other female artists and encourage them to participate in future art events, and to nurture the seed of art within the hearts and minds of females within the countr y and beyond, to encompass a greater understanding and appreciation for fine art within a gender which has not been given enough due recognition in this field.

SOO BIN FINE ART GALLERY
Soo Bin Fine Art Gallery has been opened in 14. June. 2009. With the UNESCO was register in 2007. This place of Chinese town, in Herren Street. This house a historical antic house, Two hundred years over made by wood of Chinese style. Length of gallery from of first hall until last, one hundred eighty five miter. First floor four hall and outside garden, until parking lot. But wide was very narrow. It's also Chinese style. First of all, I would like to trace back the year 2006 when the Art Malaysia's 1st Malaysia World Art-Expo 2006 was held at the M.I.T.C. here in Melaka. I still very fondly remember that the word "Art Tourism" written in a leaflet sent to me at that time from the Art Fair Secretariat instantly and appealingly caught my eye. It was that very magic word indeed which later took me to Melaka in pursuit of a peaceful and satisfied "My second life" both as a painter and an art tourism practitioner. Now, always Soo Bin Fine Art open for artist who want to exhibition of my gallery solo or group exhibition can will be open. For group of artist to help one have gust room, to prepared 5bed on second floor. I think here Melaka for Artist's home town. To enjoy too many another cultures to felling and to see many heritage museum. To loved arts, Want to tourism, Want to works and exhibition can will be at Soo Bin fine Art gallery here Melaka.
