Skye’s The Limit Singing & Dance Academy

MON 12 & TUE 13 SEP 8.15PM Draíocht Studio €10

TUE 06 SEP 7PM Main Auditorium €10 adults / €5 children

Come join the talented young stars of the Skye’s The Limit Singing & Dance Academy, ages 4-16 years, as they showcase their talents in musical theatre, jazz, hip hop, tap, commercial, contemporary/lyrical dance and singing. It’s guaranteed to be a fun and entertaining evening with something for everyone.

On Sackville Street is a play set in two classrooms during two different time frames: 1916 and 2016. The classroom of 1916 lives through the actual events of the Easter Rising as they unfolded. Their great grandchildren are in the 2016 classroom contemplating the historical contribution of those who have gone before them. The two classrooms are overseen by the 7 Signatories of the Proclamation who act as a 4th Wall. The play is a tribute to all those men and women who sacrificed so much for Irish Freedom. DRAMA

TUE 13 SEP 8PM Main Auditorium €18 / €16 conc

Patricia Robinson sings hits from Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, Barbara Streisand, Cilla Black, Olivia Newton John, Petula Clark and many others. Patricia has performed in various venues in Ireland and Germany and at the Cavern Club, Liverpool. Sing along with some of the great tunes like, ‘I only want to be with you’, ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking’, ‘Puppet On A String’, ‘Is This The Way To San Jose’, ‘River Deep Mountain High’, and to the disco versions of ‘Locomotion’ and ‘Singing In The Rain’.

Universally regarded as being classics of their kind, three of Frank O’Connor’s funniest stories: My Oedipus Complex, The Genius and First Confession have been brought together in a single full-length play. Meet young Michael, who goes into mortal combat with his father when he returns from the First World War; Larry, a genius who can’t understand why the world can’t keep up with him; and Jackie, who has the grim task of not only making his first confession and communion, but must also deal with his very obstreperous grandmother.

His voice is Dublin yet wholly distinctive, almost clichéd to say it, but he is part of a rich bloodline of Irish singers from Luke Kelly to Ronnie Drew, Christy Moore to Andy Irvine. Their kin outside Ireland are Springsteen and Guthrie, Dylan and Marley.

OPEN STUDIO – MEET THE ARTIST – KATIE O’NEILL 7PM – 8PM Artist Studio Katie O’Neill is a multidisciplinary artist from Balbriggan, Dublin. O’Neill’s practice is largely defined by self-publishing in various media, notably zines (small, self-made booklets) and books of political and personal themes. Come along and have a chat with Katie about her work. With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behaviour, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens and ultimately heals her. 10

The teacher loves the housekeeper’s daughter, who loves the young artist, who loves the girl next door, who loves the famous writer, who is the lover of the great actress — who had an affair with the doctor, who the housekeeper still loves after all these years.

Walter Goodfellow (Rowan Atkinson), the vicar for the small English country parish of Little Wallop, has allowed his marriage to Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) go stale. Out of desperation for affection, Gloria begins to fall for the advances of Lance (Patrick Swayze), an American golf pro who is giving her ‘private’ lessons. Enter Grace Hawkins (Maggie Smith), the answer to Gloria’s prayers: a charming, discreet housekeeper (with a wicked secret) who has her own unique definition of keeping house and an unusual knack for problem solving. Red Hurley – Love Is All THU 06 OCT 8PM Main Auditorium €27.50

In the first of his great masterpieces, Chekhov sets this parade of unrequited love on a summer estate where, with a meticulous eye and unsentimental clarity, he exposes the ridiculousness of our longing. Here, the young clash with the old, the artists with the civil servants and the traditional with the shock of the new. This new version for The Corn Exchange by Michael West and Annie Ryan, shows how deeply relevant, radically contemporary and exquisitely funny Chekhov remains. The Seagull is a wonderful celebration of love and art – a study of what we aspire to most and how easily we keep our happiness just out of reach. Directed by Annie Ryan. Cast includes: Derbhle Crotty, Genevieve Hulme-Beaman and Rory Keenan.

‘As ever with Corn Exchange it’s the way they tell it that lifts things into the truly extraordinary’ – Herald Scotland

Red Hurley is one of Ireland’s most enduring singers whose career has spanned several decades. He is principally known as a solo artist, although he has performed with various orchestras and bands. He enjoyed his first series of number one records in the 1970s and his biggest hit ‘Love is All’ is the basis for his new shows. This will see Red sing all of his biggest hits of yesteryear up and until now! His signature rich powerful voice, relaxed charm and energetic stage shows have captured the hearts of audience’s everywhere.

Jason Deans Any Observer UNTIL SAT 10 SEP 2016 Ground Floor Gallery

Jason’s ‘Any Observer’ work is predominantly sculptural and stands testament to significant social political commentary within the ephemeral constructs created. This use of ephemeral materials in his practice is important, as the instability and wonder it creates within the work is key to the viewers experience within the space. Often the audience is imbibed with the view of them as a strategic player in the piece, a creative interplay between art and audience, the artist working always towards a contextual expression that feels cohesive and complete. Image detail: Comes Tumbling Down, 68 cast mortar sand and cement blocks, 2016

These classes will introduce participants to the medium of oil painting and will be a mix of theoretical and practical sessions. Some previous art experience would be beneficial but previous oil painting experience is not essential. We will look at different approaches and techniques to oil painting and participants can expect to produce several oil paintings during the course.

These classes are a follow up course for participants who have already completed Dave’s Beginners Class in Oil Painting. This term will concentrate on developing brush skills and confidence, colour mixing, tonal values and recording images quickly and efficiently in paint.

Katie O’Neill Artist in Residence

Robert Kelly Expanding Spaces

JULY – DECEMBER 2016

SAT 24 SEP – SAT 19 NOV 2016 Ground Floor Gallery

Katie O’Neill is a multidisciplinary artist from Balbriggan, Dublin. O’Neill’s practice is largely defined by self-publishing in various media, notably zines (small, self-made booklets) and books of political and personal themes, including ‘Loudmouth’, a collaborative feminist zine which called for submissions from women detailing their experiences of sexism. Her work has explored themes of alienation within capitalist spaces, psychogeography (an approach to geography that emphasizes playfulness and ‘drifting’ around urban environments), mental health struggles and notions of identity, memory and ‘medium as message’.

Expanding Spaces is an exploration of liminal spaces as explored through the medium of drawing and printmaking, where the boundaries between both disciplines can sometimes seem blurred. Preoccupations with themes such as ‘a space between’, ‘bending space’ and ‘expanding spaces’ emerge through a process led and playful approach to the media used. Spectator focus is directed not only to materiality but also to visual and perceptual occurrences taking place within the works.

For the past months O’Neill has collected sounds and images from various areas in her native Dublin city and abroad. Working as a collector and curator of this archive of found ‘footage’, the artist creates audio collages and visual narratives of various themes, playing with and adding to what she finds. O’Neill’s goal for her residency at Draíocht is to develop this project by bringing together various strands of her work in a way that is engaging and accessible to her audience. O’Neill has a BA in Photography from DIT and studied screen-printing in Black Church Print Studio under the guidance of Louise Peat. www.katie-oneill.com / katiegoneill.wordpress.com

Robert is a graduate of Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design, the National College of Art and Design and Trinity College, Dublin. His work is held in public collections by Louth County Council, County Monaghan VEC and in corporate and private collections in Ireland and Internationally. Robert is a member of Black Church Print Studio Dublin since 2010. He undertook a Cill Rialaig Residency Award in Ballinskelligs in September 2015. Recent exhibitions include Interconnectedness - Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda (2014) (solo exhibition). Collapsing Horse Theatre Artists in Residence 2016/17

Event & Conference Facilities

Collapsing Horse are striding through this year’s Residency at Draíocht. We are delighted to announce that Collapsing Horse will be continuing their residency and partnership with Draíocht through 2017.

Draíocht provides well maintained and comfortable facilities for many different types of events including conferences, business meetings, staff training or interviews. Our convenient location beside The Blanchardstown Centre makes Draíocht an ideal choice with great public transport links and ample free parking.

In May and June we worked with animator Jody Barker Rockett, AV designer Mick Cullinan, composer Dan Forde and performers Manus Halligan and Aoife Leonard on our new piece Conor: at the end of the Universe (previously titled 46 Billion Light Years From Home). We are delighted to announce Conor: at the end of the Universe will premiere at Draíocht in October (see page 16) with a total of 4 performances. Part puppet show, part installation piece, part animated film, part immersive experience, part ballet; Conor is a sensory and artistic journey through space at time-bending speeds. This stunning and engaging production uses puppets, design, animation and music as Conor and his granddad bring you places that you’ve never seen before. In other news from Collapsing Horse, we have been announced as the new Artistic Directors of the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival in 2017 and our new show The Aeneid has been announced as one of the Tiger Dublin Fringe programme highlights and will run from the 14-24 September. The support and resources of our Residency in Draíocht have allowed us to be bold and make work inside and outside of Draíocht itself.
