Dismantling

Remove the screws of the coupling guard.

Remove the coupling guard.

Pump with spacer coupling: Remove the screws between the spacing pipe and coupling ring.

Pump with spacer coupling: Fit the screws into the dismounting holes, and turn the screws until the coupling ring separates from the spacing pipe.

Pump with spacer coupling: Remove the screws holding the distance pipe to the coupling half of the motor.

Pump with spacer coupling: Fit the screws into the dismounting holes, and turn the screws until the spacing pipe separates from the coupling half of the motor.

Pump with spacer coupling: Remove the coupling ring.

Pump with standard coupling: Remove the foundation screws which fix the motor.

Pump with standard coupling: Lift off the motor.

All coupling types: Slacken the set screws of the coupling half of the pump.

Remove the coupling half.

Remove the screws of the coupling guard retainer.

Remove the coupling guard retainer.

Remove the nuts (apart from the one in the top) that hold the cover on the pump housing.

Remove the screws of the shaft covers, and remove the shaft covers.

Fit a lifting strap from the bearing bracket to a crane/ hoist. Remove the nuts of the bearing bracket base.

Remove the last nut holding the cover on the pump housing.

Pull the lifting strap taut, and loosen the cover from the pump housing using a pinch bar.

Lift off the bearing bracket, cover, impeller etc.

Remove the bearing bracket base from the bearing bracket, and lower the motor stool onto a firm surface.

Hold the impeller with a strap wrench, and slacken the impeller nut. Remove the impeller nut, spring washer and washer from the shaft.

Remove the O-ring from the cover.

Remove the impeller. It may be necessary to loosen the impeller with a pinch bar or similar tool.

Remove the key.

Remove the spacer rings, if any, from the shaft seal.

If the pump is not to be dismantled further, the stationary shaft seal part can be pressed out from the back by means of a hexagon key or similar tool.

Remove the nuts holding the bearing bracket on the cover.

Loosen the bearing bracket using a pinch bar, and lift off the bearing bracket.

If the stationary shaft seal part was not removed in step 32, press it out from the back.

Remove the V-ring.

Loosen the bearing cover using a screwdriver, and remove it.

Remove the lock ring.

Pull the shaft with bearings out of the bearing bracket.

Remove the O-ring in the motor end of the bearing bracket.

Remove the O-ring in the pump end of the bearing bracket.

Replacing the stuffing box

Remove the nuts of the stuffing box gland.

Remove the two stuffing box gland halves.

Remove the shaft sleeve from the stuffing box.

Remove the packing rings and the distribution ring, if any, (the number of packing rings and whether a distribution ring is fitted, depends on the stuffing box type).

Cut new packing rings to the same size as that of the old ones.

Fit the shaft sleeve into the hole of the cover.

Fit new packing rings. SNE: Packing ring, distribution ring and 3 packing rings. SNO: 5 packing rings. SNF: 2 packing rings, distribution ring and 2 packing rings.

Fit the two stuffing box glands.

Displace the joints by 90 ° when fitting the packing rings.

Put together the two stuffing box glands, and fit the nuts.

Tighten the screws loosely. They are not to be tightened completely until the pump is in operation. Then tighten them to a rate of 20 to 40 drops/minute from the stuffing box.

Fit the cover on the motor stool. The air vent screw must point towards the right pump side (seen from the motor).

Replacing the wear ring

Wear rings Cast iron or bronze wear ring: Steps 2-4. Stainless steel wear ring: Steps 5-8.

Pump with cast iron or bronze wear ring: Insert the hook of the puller under the wear ring.

Knock the impact block against the puller end stop. Move the puller to another position under the wear ring.

Knock the new wear ring home using a piece of wood as a buffer. Repeat steps 2-4 for the second wear ring of the pump.

Pump with stainless steel wear ring: Unscrew the screws of the wear ring, and remove the wear ring.

The two types of stainless steel wear ring: Without and with carbon-graphite-filled PTFE ring.

Fit the new wear ring.

Fasten the wear ring with the four screws. Tighten the screws to 5 Nm. Repeat steps 5-8 for the second wear ring of the pump.

Replacing the coupling rubber pads

Pump with spacer coupling: Prise the rubber pads out of the coupling ring using a screwdriver.

Pump with spacer coupling: Fit new rubber pads in the coupling half.

Pump with standard coupling: Remove the nuts from the screws, and remove the spring washer.

Pump with standard coupling: Pull the screw out of the coupling half, and remove the washer.

Pump with standard coupling: Replace the rubber bush.

Pump with standard coupling: Fit the washer on the screw, and insert the screw into the coupling half.

Pump with standard coupling: Fit the spring washer and nut.

Pump with standard coupling: Hold the screw, and tighten the nut. M12: 40 Nm. M20: 150 Nm. M24: 180 Nm.

Assembling the pump

Lubricate and fit the O-ring in the pump end of the bearing bracket.

Lubricate and fit the O-ring in the motor end of the bearing bracket.

Fit the shaft with bearing in the bearing bracket.

Fit the V-ring on the pump end of the shaft.

Lift the bearing bracket with pump shaft onto the cover. The air vent screw must point towards the right pump side (seen from the motor).

Fit the nuts, and tighten them loosely.

Fit the lock ring.

Fit the bearing cover. Knock it carefully home using a plastic hammer.

Spray soapy water on the shaft.

Fit the stationary shaft seal part on the shaft (do not touch the seal face with your fingers). Press it home using a punch of soft material.

Remove the screws, if any, from the rotating shaft seal part, and discard them.

Fit the mounting bush on the shaft.

Spray soapy water on the shaft and the mounting bush.

Shaft seal, type M7N: Fit the seal ring with O-ring on the shaft (do not touch the seal face with your fingers).

Shaft seal, type M7N: Press the seal ring against the stationary shaft seal part using a punch of soft material.

Shaft seal, type HJ92: Press the rotating shaft seal part home using a punch of soft material.

Fit the washer, spring washer and nut.

Hold the impeller with a strap wrench, and tighten the nut. M14: 70 Nm. M18: 155 Nm. M24: 375 Nm. M27: 375 Nm. M33: 375 Nm.

Lubricate the O-ring with O-ring grease.

Lift the bearing bracket with cover and impeller onto the pump housing.

Fit the nuts, and pull the cover home by cross-tightening the nuts loosely.

Fasten the cover to the pump housing by crosstightening the nuts. M10: 45 Nm. M12: 80 Nm. M16: 145 Nm. M24: 200 Nm.

Fasten the bearing bracket to the cover by crosstightening the nuts. M10: 45 Nm. M12: 80 Nm. M16: 145 Nm. M24: 200 Nm.

Fit the shaft covers on the bearing bracket, and tighten the screws: M4: 4 Nm. M6: 10 Nm. M8: 12 Nm. M10: 23 Nm.

Fasten the bearing bracket base: M12: 40 Nm. M16: 75 Nm.

Check that the pump shaft can rotate freely.

Fit the coupling guard retainer, and tighten the four screws. M6: 10 Nm

Fit the coupling half on the pump shaft, and position it so that it is flush with the shaft end.

Apply a drop of Loctite 243 to the set screws, and tighten them. M4: 4 Nm. M6: 10 Nm. M8: 12 Nm. M10: 23 Nm. M16: 145 Nm.

Spacer coupling: Fit the coupling ring.

Spacer coupling: Fit the spacing pipe, and fasten it on the coupling half of the motor.

Spacer coupling: Turn the coupling discs to displace the keys by 180 °, and fit the screws which hold the coupling ring and the spacing pipe together.

Aligning the pump and motor with a ruler

S1 S2

It is very important that the pump/motor alignment is carried out correctly. The maximum value of S1 is 0.2 mm. Values of ∅ and S2, see the table on page 25.

Make a rough alignment of pump and motor, and tighten the foundation screws to the correct torque in the base frame. See page 34.

Make a mark on the coupling, for instance with a mark pen.

Hold a straight-edge against the coupling, and determine the inaccuracy, if any, with a feeler gauge.

Turn the coupling 90 °, and repeat the measurement with a straight-edge and feeler gauge. If the measured values are less than 0.2 mm, the alignment is finished. Go to step 8.

Adjust the position of the motor. Slacken the foundation screws of the motor.

Place shims with the required thickness.

Tighten the foundation screws to the correct torque again. Go to step 3, and check the alignment once more.

Check the distance S2. Correct distance, see page 25.

Aligning the pump and motor with laser equipment

Make a rough alignment of pump and motor using a straight-edge and feeler gauge, and tighten the foundation screws to the correct torque. See page 34.

Fasten one laser bracket on the coupling half of the pump.

Fasten the other laser bracket on the coupling half of the motor.

Laser unit S (Stationary) is on the stationary part. Laser unit M (Movable) is on the part that is moved.

Interconnect the laser units, and connect one laser unit with the control box.

Make sure that the laser units are at the same height.

Enter the distance.

Measure the distance between the white lines on the laser units.

Measure the distance between the S unit and the centre between the couplings.

Enter the distance.

Measure the distance from the S unit to the first foundation screw of the motor.

Enter the distance.

Measure and enter the distance from the S unit to the rear foundation screw of the motor.

The control box shows that the laser units must be turned to position 9 o'clock.

Turn the laser units to position 9 o'clock. Confirm on the control box.

Turn the laser units to position 12 o'clock. Confirm on the control box.

Turn the laser units to position 3 o'clock.

Confirm on the control box.

Result of measurement. If the measured values are less than 0.1 mm, the alignment is finished. Go to step 24.

Adjust the position of the motor. Slacken the foundation screws of the motor.
