FROM THE PRESIDENT OF FERMA

4th – 7th OCTOBER 2015 VENICE, ITALY

I invite you to join me from the 4th to the 7th of October together with more than 1500 risk professionals at the Venice Lido for the 2015 FERMA Forum. The Italian cities of Trieste, Genoa and Venice have been the cradle of European insurance and risk management since the 14th century thanks to their maritime and trading activities. Venice is, therefore, a very appropriate as well as a very special venue for the largest European risk and insurance management event. Together in Venice we will: • Focus on our profession, innovation and diversity. • Participate in a programme designed to inspire, educate and influence how we manage risk in a riskier world. • Network with risk and insurance professionals. • Attend the launch of the FERMA European Risk Management Certification. • Find inspiration from the latest innovative solutions and experts in the Marketplace exhibition area. • Join colleagues at the Young Professionals’ Breakfast, Ladies Lunch, Leadership and Diversity breakfast. • Take away ideas to help us develop as professionals and add value to our organisations. The Forum will be built on the discussions and feedback from the 2013 Forum in Maastricht and the 2014 Seminar in Brussels. It will focus on FERMA’s core activities: representing our national associations at a European level; increasing the influence and reputation of risk management and insurance; and providing guidance to our members and a pan-European voice on EU matters. The FERMA Board, Secretariat and Forum Committee all join me in extending a warm welcome in Venice. We have set our expectations high for participants to come away believing they have gained professionally and personally from being there.

Please join us - this is your Forum!

Join us at our cocktail party on the 6th October, at 6.30pm.

With unrivalled capital security protecting the underwritten risks, confirmed by A+ ratings, and a reputation for fast and fair claims payment, Lloyd’s also offers financial peace of mind.

For 327 years Lloyd’s has been at the forefront of managing complex and emerging risks such as data breach and cyber risks.

We have been in business for over 300 years because we honour our promise to pay all valid claims. The Lloyd’s market pays an average of over €12 billion in claims which help businesses and individuals recover and rebuild.

Thanks to this experience, Lloyd’s offers Italian businesses innovative, tailored insurance solutions to reduce, mitigate and manage the risks of the sector.

Which is why we insure 97% of the FTSE 100 and 95% of Dow Jones companies.

The close collaboration between our underwriters and your insurance broker will lead to the creation of an insurance policy for the specific risks facing your business. So you receive the cover you actually need, not a ‘one size fits all’ programme with a premium that includes the cost of unnecessary cover. 4

We are Lloyd’s, and we protect the world’s leading businesses.

WORKSHOPS

NETWORKING BREAK

1. ANRA Session

ANRA will focus on issues for risk managers in Italy and worldwide. - In Italian

Sponsored by JLT

2. Mergers and Acquisitions

This session will look at the insurance and risk management department’s role and responsibility during an M&A transaction and in particular during the due diligence phase. The session will highlight potential pitfalls, watchouts and show stoppers. It will also discuss insurance solutions helpful for an M&A transaction.

3. Risk Management in SMEs

In SMEs, the finance director or even CEO may be responsible for the risk management programme. Their success or otherwise can affect their trading partners.

4. International Insurance Programmes

Structuring an international programme so that it is efficient and complies with the regulatory and taxation requirements of multiple jurisdictions is one of the most challenging jobs for a risk and insurance manager. This workshop will go through the different risks faced during an international expansion.

16.30 – 17.30 WORKSHOPS

1. ANRA Session

ANRA will focus on the different issues for risk managers in Italy and worldwide. - In Italian

2. Risk and Audit

Companies live and work in a new “risk normality” that is increasingly complex and connected. Audit and Risk Committees need to rely more than ever on competent risk and internal audit professionals. The goal is to analyze the impact of the European 8th Company Law directive to exchange best practices. And finally to answer to the question: Risk Management & Internal Audit, enemity or complementariness?

3. Crisis Management: a rapid response?

Advance planning and rehearsal are essential in insuring that organisations can respond rapidly to a crisis, whether it is an outbreak of political violence, natural catastrophe or epidemic.

11.00 – 12.00 WORKSHOPS 1. Employee Benefits

Employee benefits - what are they and why do they matter? This session will show why it is advantageous and important to tackle employee benefits with a strategic approach, in particular from the corporate perspective. It will also show how to design and eventually implement a benefits programme on a world-wide basis and different financing methods.

2. Geopolitical Risks

The plunging of the price of oil combined with political instability in many oil producing countries and their neighbours makes a volatile combination. This session will consider the risk from the perspective of international oil and gas consultancy, a risk manager and an insurance company.

3. Large Claims

Successful large claims management is a critical element of corporate resilience when facing a crisis. New risks are emerging and the organisation needs to adapt continually.

4. International Travel and Safety

International business travellers are exposed to a wider range and greater severity of risks than they would usually face at home, from ships’ emergencies to poor traffic security, kidnap and ransom, terrorism and outbreaks of deadly disease, all challenges of the early 21st century. How can you prepare your corporate travel and safety strategy to provide for any thinkable situation of emergency? And how can you identify good preparedness and surveillance measures? How can you train and deal with the authorities, the relatives, the media, twitter and the like, and the employees, how to be prepared for and manage the worst case scenario?

LADIES LUNCH

forum 2015

14.00 – 15.15 WORKSHOPS

1. Climate Changes, Natural Catastrophe and Terrorism

Following the 2013 FERMA Forum, where we analyzed the challenges and possible approaches of climate change, we examine the natural catastrophe response through case studies and talk about emergency response when all resources are limited. And finally we ask the question: could we make a link between climate change and terrorism?

2. Cyber Risks

The threat from cyber risks has become ever clearer and more disturbing in the two years since the last Forum. This workshop will look at current cyber risk trends - with case studies of how these risks are affecting organisations. It will consider the human aspect to managing cyber risks, what is happening in the areas of potential government intervention and standards, and why businesses are not buying cyber insurance as predicted.

3. The Value of Insurance

Have you been internally challenged on the question of the value of insurance? This workshop is about discussing and developing an adequate answer (and underlying methodology) that reaches beyond expensed premium and paid claims and considers different perspectives of looking at insurance and its value to the company. These perspectives include different organisational levels as well as different functions (e.g. HR, Accounting, Treasury, CFO) within the organisation.

4. Emerging Risks

From our highly interconnected and complex world, new uncertainties are continually emerging. Mostly they are intangible. Organisations need a framework which allows them to manage risks that they do not yet know about and take advantage of opportunities that are also new.

Risk culture is easy to say but hard to define. The session will provide a practical insight into the human and cultural dimension to managing risk across organisations and geographic boundaries. It will cover how organisations are dealing with these issues as part of a risk management framework and look at a case study presented by a risk manager from a leading multinational business.
