24th Annual Jack’s Kids Softball Tournament Saturday, July 9th, 2016

To All of our Friends and Supporters;

On behalf of Somerville Lodge #1068 and the Jack’s Kid’s committee, I’d like to welcome everyone to the 24th annual Jack Gardner Memorial Softball Tournament. This tournament, a major fundraiser for the Jack’s Kids committee, brings much needed support and relief for the families of children with serious childhood illnesses as well as serious disabilities. The late Jack Gardner, a member of Somerville Elks Lodge #1068, was a generous man with a big heart who greatly contributed to fundraising for these children. It’s heartwarming to know his memory continues to be honored with an event that is such a tribute to his legacy of giving. There are ball players and volunteers who proudly attest to the fact that they have attended every softball tournament over the past 24 years, and we can’t thank you enough for coming back time and time again. We also thank our major sponsors of this year’s tournament: the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ellery’s Pub and Grill, and Hugh and Kathy Sloan. I can sit here and thank everyone: our sponsors, tournament volunteers, umpires, and committee members, but I know the thank you that means the most to you is knowing how your time, money and effort is helping the children and families that are sponsored by Jack’s Kids. In Memory of….Jack Gardner Jack Gardner died in November 1992. He had a prolific life throughout Somerset County. He grew up in North Plainfield, where he was an outstanding athlete in Football, Basketball and Baseball. Jack was a detective in the Somerset County Prosecutors Office for many years. Later he became Warden of the Somerset County Jail. He was a member of the Somerville Elks Lodge #1068. He became an assistant football coach at Immaculata High School were he coached for twelve years until his death. Jack was a treasure. His main virtue was his willingness to help people. Anyone who came to Jack for help was assured that he would come through. Throughout Somerset County he is noted for helping many people, especially the younger Generation. He was kind, thoughtful and always gave of himself. That is why the “Jack Gardner Memorial Softball Tournament” is rightfully named. All of the tournament proceeds help those kids in need. These are “Jack’s Kids!”

Our Mission The heart of Jack’s Kids is to ease the financial burden to families dealing with a serious childhood illness and/ or serious disability so they can focus on wrapping their family in love and the attention they need.

2016 Jack’s Kids Team The entire team that put this tournament together is TOO LARGE to name everyone. From putting the teams and umps together to coordinating volunteers, getting sponsors, coordinating the food donations, putting the kid events together, setting up the prizes, and SO MUCH more it truly takes a TEAM of hard working and dedicated people who do not know the meaning of “I”. Message from our Chairman and Honorary Chair of the 2016 Tournament Welcome! I am privileged and honored to once again be the Chairman of Jack’s Kids Committee this year. We have seen this tournament grow from a few softball teams to a record number of teams again for 2016! It just keeps getting better! Jack’s Kids charities stands for everything we believe in: God, Country and Community. Our committee has worked hard throughout the year to make this day a success, we hope you relax and enjoy good company and good friends! This year we are supporting many families who need our support. Please take a moment today to meet the very brave families and children who benefit from this event, look into your hearts and consider helping them today. Your compassion and generosity will greatly impact the ongoing efforts of these families to provide their children with the medical attention they desperately need.
