Softball Coaching Staff

2016 Head Coach Jill Semento

Jill Semento is entering her first year as the Vikings’ head softball coach. She began her coaching career as an assistant softball coach at SJR State before becoming the head coach at Lake-Sum-

ter State College, a position she occupied for three years before returning to SJR State. In her second year at LSSC, Semento led her team to the FCSAA State Tournament for the second time in the school’s history, with the team finishing in the top eight for the first time in the program’s history. Semento attended the University of South Carolina, where she led the team as a true freshman in on-base percentage (.397), slugging percentage (.487), home runs (5), RBIs (18), walks (14) and hit-by-pitches (7). She stood second in doubles (6) and

triples (1) and ranked third on the squad with a .287 batting average, 10 runs scored and 33 hits. As a sophomore, Semento led the team with a .313 batting average, a .469 slugging percentage, a .409 on-base percentage, 24 RBIs, 14 walks, and 2 sacrifice flies. She posted six doubles and three home runs for the season, ranking second on the team for both. Semento transferred to Stetson University for her junior year, where she made the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament and All-Academic teams. She played in 52 games during her debut season with the Hatters, starting 51 games at

third base and batting .224 with seven doubles (second on the team), three home runs and 16 RBIs. Semento tied for second on the team with 25 walks. In her final season, Semento boasted a .300 batting average and led the team in on-base percentage (.459), RBIs (29), home runs (7), walks (29), and hit-by-pitches (11) and was second on the team in slugging percentage (.500). Semento received her baccalaureate degree in Sport Management from Stetson University and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Coaching Education.

record over 25 wins as a pitcher and hit over 25 home runs. Her 28 career home runs, including three grand slams, was the fifth-most in the school’s history. Brandt also ranks sixth in school history with 114 career RBIs and 256 stolen bases, seventh in games started with 75, and ninth in pitching appearances with 83. She received her bachelor’s degree

in history from Stetson in May 2015.

Assistant Coach Courtney Brandt Courtney Brandt joined St. Johns River State College as the new assistant softball coach in 2015. 2016 Joe H. Pickens, J.D., President

Welcome to St. Johns River State College! As we begin the 2016 softball season, I would like to thank you and our sponsors

for supporting our student-athletes, the College and its mission in the pursuit of academic, artistic and athletic excellence. Since 1958, the College has been dedicated to the positive development of young men and women through a variety of academic and athletic programs. It is our fundamental belief that athletic endeavors, physical challenges and healthy competition inspire the strong character that is essential in the development of tomorrow’s leaders. Following the 2012 reorganization of our athletic programs, the College is better equipped to focus its resources on the programs we

retained, enhancing the financial and academic support necessary to achieve immediate competitive success and increased scholastic achievement. Last year, a number of our athletes not only graduated with stellar athletic achievements, but each team’s collective grade point average ranked higher than the student body’s GPA as a whole, giving true meaning to the term “student-athlete.” I would also like to congratulate our student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent to advance in their academic and athletic careers at the university level. We are proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments,

both on the field and in the classroom. For more than 50 years, the communities of Putnam, Clay and St. Johns counties have entrusted SJR State for its academic excellence. Our close-knit environment is ideal for fostering each student’s potential as he or she prepares to either enter the university system or enter the workforce as a trained professional. I hope you enjoy today’s game, and I invite you and your family to return to our beautiful campus to experience and support our volleyball and baseball teams as well. Go Vikings!
