Class Description: This beautiful Autumn Tree is created with carving skills using a rotary tool such as a Dremel or a comparable carver. The Autumn Tree is designed for all levels of students but beginners should have practiced with the cutting bits. The foliage of the tree is made by applying Prickly Pear Cactus and then coloring with ink. Instructor will provide: Prickly Pear Cactus Skeleton. Inks. Patterns. Hot glue guns and glue. All set-up and clean-up supplies. Student will provide: One cut, cleaned and painted on the inside martin gourd that is 6 inches to 8 inches in diameter. Gourd should by dyed in an uneven pattern with a brown or red/brown ink dye. The top is colored with a honey colored ink dye. The honey color should only add to the color of the gourd. A small amount of yellow ink may have to be added to the honey to dye gourds with dark colored shells, or a small drop of brown ink may have to be added to the honey to dye gourds with light colored shells.

Using a small kettle or birdhouse gourd, students will wood burn, carve designs and dye their gourds to accomplish the Faux Leather look. Instructor will provide: Gourd, ink dyes, paints, brushes and a tutorial, and all other supplies necessary to finish this gourd

Student will provide: A Dremel or comparable carving tool with carbide structured ball burr or flame, and #107 and #109 ball bits. A wood burner, a variable temperature wood burner is recommended but a hobby style one will work. Wood burner tips/nibs: med skew and .8mm ball tip pens. Adjustable compass. Measuring tape. Scissors. Heat tool, not a hair dryer. A 3 inch, a 4 inch and a 6 inch metal ring (instructor has a few to share, but it is best to bring your own rings. The rings can be purchased at hobby/craft stores in the leather working department). Apron/protective clothing. Dust mask and eye protection.

Class Description: In this class, there will be a discussion on how to properly prepare the gourds and set up the lacing design. Students will learn how to use GourdMaster (GM) products (Ink Dyes/Metallic Inks/Formula 49/Varnish/Protecting Wax/etc.) and then they will color and seal their gourds. They will learn two methods of lacing and will complete the lacing designs on their gourd bowl. When the lacing is finished they will add a concho to the design. Instructor will provide: A cleaned, cut, sanded and drilled gourd. GM Ink Dyes, Metallic Inks, Formula 49, Varnish, Protecting Wax. Concho. Quickwood. 2-3 colors of leather lacing. Awls. Felt squares. Vinyl gloves. Scissors. Paper towels. Tutorial with color photo of completed project in a plastic sheet cover. 2 heat guns for those who may not have one. Student will provide: Sharp scissors. Heat gun (not a hair dryer). Apron/smock to protect clothing.

Class Description: New to gourding and just want to get the basics like cleaning, opening and gutting? Gourd Basics is the place to start. Bring your dirty, ratty gourds from home to work on and leave with craft ready gourds! Don’t have any from home? The instructor will supply one dirty gourd for you. Wash, open, and gut the gourd and observe Angela in action as she demonstrates repair and general art applications. You will soon get the knack of it! Cleaning supplies provided by instructor, author of Gourd Basics, The complete Guide to Cleaning, Preparation, and Repair of Gourds, published by Schiffer Publishing. Instructor will provide: A dirty ratty gourd if a student needs one. All gourd cleaning and gutting supplies. Students will provide: A dirty, ratty gourd for a cleaning lesson if they have one. An apron or work shirt. Zip Lock plastic bag. A grocery bag (plastic or paper).

Class Description: Anyone can learn to draw with a wood burner utilizing pointillism. Participants will learn how to transfer a furnished dogwood design onto a gourd and how to use pointillism with a variable temperature wood burner to create the approximate 7 x 5 inch pattern of dogwood leaves and blooms onto the gourd. The concept of pointillism will be discussed and demonstrated before participants start to wood burn. A detailed discussion of wood burning techniques along with an overview of pen tips and their uses will be conducted. DOGWOOD POINTILLISM CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE

Title: Wired Shadow Box Instructor: Susan Zanella Date: Sunday Morning, October 30 Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM Level: All Levels Class Identifier: CP (Complete a Project) Fee: $40.00 Number of students: Maximum 12, minimum 3 Contact information to enroll in this class: Email: [email protected] Class Description: Use a gourd shard and one of the provided patterns or stencils to learn how to wood burn clean lines and solids. Then, use a rotary tool to carve a channel border and inlay it with colored wire to form a frame around the image. You will learn how to mount a piece of wood to the back of the gourd shard and attach it to the backing of the shadow box. Shadow box frame with glass is provided. Instructor will provide: Shaped gourd shards. Patterns and/or Stencils. Mounting wood piece. Shadow box frame with glass. 18 gauge colored wire for border. Some tools available for use during class-please email [email protected] if you need to reserve a tool. Student will provide: A wood burner (variable temperature or a hobby style) with any tip. In this class learn to stabilize a penguin gourd by inverting its base, roll and mold Apoxie Sculpt to create a crooked nose and fit eyes and brim to create Elphaba.
