Year 1 Superhero day

Year 3

Year 1 celebrated their achievements and hard work this half term by having a Superhero Day. All the children came dressed as a superhero of their choice and there were some amazing and very impressive home-made costumes. Everyone had great fun making superhero junk models and some healthy fruit smoothies. What a super day!

This week Year 3 took part in a Stone Age workshop where Talia and Stig from the Stone Age told us lots of interesting facts and acted out different scenarios. The children then performed in small groups to act out relevant facts that they had learnt. Stig commented on how enthusiastic the children were and how much they already knew about the topic. Well done Year 3.

Issue 19 Academic Year 2015/16 Year 6 trip to London On Wednesday, Year 6 were lucky enough to round off their study of the city of London with a trip on the London Eye and a riverboat cruise. The children flew the ‘Eye’ and tried to spot some of the famous London landmarks that they had been learning about in class.

They enjoyed amazing views of the city as they travelled 135m up on the giant wheel.

After their flight, Year 6 took a riverboat cruise and saw sights including: the Houses of Parliament, the Globe theatre, HMS Belfast, the Tower of London and they even sailed under Tower Bridge. It was a fantastic day and the Year 6 teachers were so proud of the behaviour of all of the children during the trip.

Reading Parent Workshops

Safer Internet Day

Thank you to the parents who attended the Early Years Parent Workshop: Reading with your child. It was a great opportunity for parents to work with some of the Early Years team on ways to enhance and develop their child’s reading at home. The parents who attended created puppets using a variety of resources in preparation to use alongside the book ‘Puffin Peter’ at the next reading session with their child (further dates to be confirmed). If you would like further information about these workshops, please speak to a member of the Early Years team. Thank you for your support.

This week, children took part in Safer Internet Day interactive assemblies. Lots of tips, advice and guidance have been posted on our website and social media feeds. If your children are using the internet over half term, remind them to stay safe online, about being SMART and to report anything they are unsure of to a responsible adult.

PE News - Active Kids 2016! Don’t forget to collect the Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers and bring them in to school after the break.

Mile-a-Day After Easter we will be introducing a Mile-a-Day. Details to follow soon. This has been inspired by a school in Scotland who started the scheme as a way of improving their children’s health. You can read how the initiative worked in their school at www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-taysidecentral-33006631

Pupils and parents enjoyed a ‘Sparkly’ Valentine Breakfast this morning and made a tremendous effort in blinging their wheels in the race for 1st Prize! With our fantastic new Catering Manager providing a delicious, healthy breakfast of freshly baked breads, croissants, pastries, homemade muesli and yoghurts, as well as mouth-watering watermelon and oranges, the children were spoilt for choice. Even the weather made our hearts soar this morning! With the sun shining, so many children made their journey to school on their wheels and many had obviously spent a lot of time and effort on their fabulous ‘blinged up’ designs. Everyone who came to the Breakfast will receive the new ‘Bike It Breakfast’ badge next term and those who entered ‘blinged up wheels’, will also receive a ‘Bling your Wheels’ badge. We had hoped to be able to give these out at the breakfast, but unfortunately there was a delay in their delivery, so as soon as they arrive, we will get them to you. Congratulations to Haydn Duggan, Treyarn Buchanan, Hani Maryam and Cerys Kalafusz all from Class RE, Amelia Stanbridge RP, Tienna Duke from 1MM, Carly Quigley from Class 3W, Mia Turner from Class 3M and Rose and Elizabeth Ingram from 4M and 5K respectively. You all win a prize, which will be brought around to your class this afternoon. With so many lovely photographs from this morning’s Valentine Breakfast, I could only include a few of them in the newsletter, including the wonderful, winning entries. to everyone that took part.
