Passes, cards, and tickets are available for purchase at Quincy Street Station, topekametro.org and at all Topeka Dillons and HyVee grocery stores.

Ticket Vending Machines are available at Quincy Street Station and the public library. All fare media purchases at ticket vending machines will receive a 10% discount.

Reduced & Income Fare Reduced fares are available for persons with a disability, Medicare recipients, those over 65, and income qualifications. In order to use the reduced fare items, you must show a Reduced Fare ID card to the bus operator when boarding the bus. To obtain a Topeka Metro Reduced Fare ID card, complete the application at topekametro.org/ fares. Applications are also available at Quincy Street Station or may be mailed upon request by calling 783-7000. Income-based applications are available at social service agencies only and must be completed by that agency. Initial IDs are free of charge; there is a replacement fee of $2 if lost, damaged, or stolen within the first year. 2

How to Ride •

Please arrive at the bus stop five minutes early and have your pass, ride card, transfer, or cash fare ready. If paying a reduced fare, present your Reduced Fare ID card to the bus operator upon boarding.

Sit quickly, reserving priority seats in the front for the disabled and elderly. Stow articles in your lap or under your seat.

•

To exit the bus, push the yellow strip or pull cord (located by the windows) approximately one block before your desired stop.

•

When possible, de-board using rear exit to allow others to board the bus through the front.

Bike & Bus Every Topeka Metro fixed route bus is equipped with an exterior rack that holds three bicycles. Instructions for use are printed on the bike rack, or view the instructional video at topekametro. org. The bike racks are available on a first come, first served basis. All items must be removed from bike. No bikes are allowed inside the bus. It is your responsibility to load and unload your bicycle; the bus operator cannot assist you.

ADA Lift Service The Lift service is a public transportation program which provides door-to-door bus service for persons with disabilities who are unable to use the wheelchair accessible fixed route bus system. Download Lift application and documents at: topekametro.org/paratransit.

Days and Hours of Service

The days and hours of Lift service will be the same as the fixed-route service listed in this map booklet.

Cost

A one-way Lift cash fare is $4. A strip of 10 tickets is $40. Note: Fixed-route fares and transfers are not accepted on the Lift service. Lift tickets are not accepted on the fixed route buses. One personal care attendant may travel with a passenger at no charge. Escorts or additional attendants must pay the $4 fare. Up to three children under age five can ride free with a paying registered adult.

Eligibility for Service

To use the Lift, a person must be certified as eligible according to guidelines set forth in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in conjunction with accessibility regulations for public transit services. ADA Paratransit eligibility is based on a person’s lack of functional ability to use the wheelchair accessible fixed route bus service.

An application for ADA Paratransit eligibility can be obtained by calling 783-7000 or can be found at topekametro.org/paratransit. The application must be completed and approved before Lift service will be provided. Instructions are available in accessible formats upon request at QSS, 820 SE Quincy. To Arrange a Ride

Once ADA Paratransit eligibility has been established, Lift rides may be arranged by calling 783-7000. Reservations are accepted daily from 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Reservations must be made by 5:00 P.M. the day prior to the requested date of travel or up to one week in advance. When calling to arrange a ride, please be prepared to provide the following information: • • •

Name (include spelling) Telephone number Exact pick-up and destination addresses. Scheduling will not look up addresses on behalf of the caller. Specify door or entrance, date, desired time of trip and return pick-up time Any special instructions (personal care attendant or escort, mobility aid, reasonable service modification, etc.)

The operator will wait three minutes from the assigned pick-up time before reporting the passenger as a no-show.

Topeka Metro Bikes Membership

$25/year or $2.50/hour

MAIN STATIONS

Topeka Metro Bikes are located at: • Washburn University • Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library • Quincy Street Station • Gage Park (near Bark Park) • Lake Shawnee

Do I have to take the bike back to a station? No, you can lock the bike at any approved bike rack in the system area. These are identified on the map on the website and the app.

What if someone checks out my bike while I’m in class or at the store? Push the “hold” button on the bike keypad before you lock up. The bike will be reserved for an hour and can not be checked out by someone else.

What if I get a flat tire?

Push the “repair” button to flag the bike for repair and look to the nearest rack. In the meantime, use the website or the app to find the next nearest bike to check out.

Does the time roll over if I don’t use it? Use it or lose it! Two hours a day is included with membership, but if you would like to keep riding, the cost is $2.50 for each additional hour.

Can I check out multiple bikes?

Yes, you may check out up to six bikes under one account, but each guest rider will be subject to the end-user agreement.

Dangerous or large items, such as car batteries, explosives, fireworks, furniture, trees, panes of glass, etc. Unconcealed firearms or weapons of any kind. Disorderly, abusive, dangerous, obscene, or threatening behavior or language. Unruly behavior, profanity, fighting, spitting, feet on the seats, or littering. Noise-producing devices (headphones allowed). Unlawful posting of materials on transit property. Excessive carry-on items or packages in seats or aisles. Leaving items or children unattended. Animals without a latched pet carrier, with the exception of guide/service animals. Indecent exposure (must have shirt, pants and shoes). Bikes inside the vehicle. Strollers that are not empty or folded prior to boarding or that block aisles or doorways. Offensive body odor or clothing soiled with bodily fluids. Open or uncovered sores or wounds. Fare evasion or sharing of monthly passes. Operating or tampering of vehicle equipment. Physical or verbal abuse of the operator, another passenger or any transit employee. Cell phones on speaker or loud conversations that may distract the operator. Standing in front of the standee line, in doorways, or on the steps. Standing when open seats are available. Standing (if seated), before the bus comes to a complete stop. Wearing or using roller skates, roller blades, or skateboards. Distracting or inappropriate conversation with the bus operator. Idle riding. Solicitation and/or behaviors that might pose a safety or security risk/concern. Masks or “hoodies” that cover a passenger’s face.

Flex service is a general public curb-to-curb transit service serving a specific geographical area. Passengers call in advance and schedule a ride to be picked up at any address in the Flex service area. A map of the service area is also located on topekametro.org. Passengers must register with Topeka Metro prior to using the Flex service. For registering, call Topeka Metro customer service at 783-7000, or visit the Quincy Street Station at 820 SE Quincy. You will be required to provide your name, address, and phone number. For scheduling or canceling a Flex ride, call Topeka Metro customer service at 783-7000 or visit the Quincy Street Station at 820 SE Quincy between 6:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M., Monday Friday. Flex service is available weekdays from 5:45 a.m. (first pick-up) to 7:00 p.m. (final pick-up). Flex rides must be requested at least three hours prior to the requested trip time, or up to one week in advance. Flex trips are available and scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers may be offered an alternate time if their scheduled time is already booked. The Flex vehicle will connect with the #4 California route at Walmart East at the top of the hour during service hours and will transport to any location within the zone.
