What have we been up to? Children Our Pre-school group recently made some delicious flap jacks.

Little Princesses

Teddy Bear Faces, “mmm that looks yummy.”

Friday afternoon in the sun. Having our tea, picnic style.

Our Pre-school visited the local Library where they each had an opportunity to borrow a book and take back it to the Nursery.

Little fire marshals are ready to put out fires or attend to any playground emergencies in their jackets and hats!

Nursery Theme You may have seen some of the lovey art work going up around the nursery. The different rooms have each chosen a theme to work around with their children. Can you guess what themes they have chosen?

ILD Our Interactive Learning Diaries (ILD) are going strong and we hope that you are enjoying following your child’s progress. It is proving to be a very successful tool in working in partnership with you, the parents. We would like to thank the many parents who are contributing to their child’s ILD profile from home. It is great to see the different accomplishments that they have achieved over the weekends and whilst on

holiday. Having this additional information, really does help us to plan next step activities for your child and show us what their new interests may be. Should you experience any problems adding formation to the ILD please do let us know and we will do our best to help get things sorted.

Nursery Songs Some of the current favourite songs come from our Deputy Manager, Amy Stephenson. She taught us two new songs called ‘Go Bananas’ and ‘Penguins Song’, which the children absolutely love. If you have heard your child singing it but couldn’t quite catch the words, here they are to help you sing along with them…

Go Bananas (Arms in the air to form a point) Peel banana, peel peel banana, Peel banana, peel peel banana, (Chop with your hands) Chop banana, chop chop banana, Chop banana chop chop banana, (Mash with your hands) Mash banana, mash mash banana, Mash banana, mash mash banana, Oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (Jump up and down and wave your arms in the air) Go bananas, go go bananas! Go banana, go go bananas!

Penguins Song Did you ever see a penguin come to tea? If you want to see a penguin look at me! (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (salute) Penguins, begin! Left arm (Flap left arm) Did you ever see a penguin come to tea? If you want to see a penguin look at me! (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (salute) Penguins, begin! Right arm (Flap right arm) Did you ever see a penguin come to tea?

If you want to see a penguin look at me! (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (salute) Penguins, begin! Left leg (Flap left leg) Did you ever see a penguin come to tea? If you want to see a penguin look at me! (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (salute) Penguins, begin! Right leg (Flap right leg) Did you ever see a penguin come to tea? If you want to see a penguin look at me! (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (salute) Penguins, begin! Everyone got their beaks? (Flap both arms, waddle and stick your tongue out) Na na na na naaa, na na na na na naaa Na na na na naa, na nana na na naa (point to yourself using your thumb) Penguins, attention! (Salute) Penguins, the end! A recording of the children and staff singing the tune will be posted on our Facebook page next week so keep a look out.

What will my child learn from this activity?     

Memory – remembering the words and melody to songs helps develop memory. Rhythm recognition – understanding rhythm and following a steady beat. Speech and Vocabulary – all forms of talking and singing with your child help develop this area. Confidence building – joining in with group activities and showing your child that they can express themselves verbally in front of others. Focus and Attention – learning to complete a song from beginning to end.

Staff New Apprentices: We are very pleased to introduce two new apprentices. Molly started with us at the end of July and has now settled in into Giraffes very nicely, where Carly has taken her under her wing. Molly is studying towards her NVQ 2 in Child Care with N & B Training.

Charlie started on the 11th August and can also be found on the Zebra and Giraffes floor. She is studying towards her NVQ 3 with Guildford College alongside her placement with us.

We are also delighted to announce that two of our current staff, Claudia and Zoe have decided to enrol with Guildford College and work towards gaining their NVQ 3 qualification. Since joining Fitzsimmons they have both gained their NVQ 2 and are keen to progress in their studies with guidance and support from their management team. A big congratulations also goes out to Jade who has recently completed her NVQ 3. She has promised to give as much help as she can to her colleagues just embarking on their new course. We are very proud of her, as we are of all our staff and we wish them well in their studies.

Cookie Club Schools are opening again soon for the autumn term and for all our Pre-schoolers who are starting their new adventure, we wish you all the best in “Big School”. If your child will be returning to us for Cookie Club, welcome back. Cookie Club starts from the first day of St Nicholas’ term which is Thursday the 3rd September and the new Cookie Clubbers will gradually join us as they settle into school life.
